Abstract:
Despite incidents about postmodernization in Hong Kong society, the significance of post-modernization is uncharted. If postmodernization is significant, it will particularly satisfy people with greater orientation to postmodern values. This study examines the hypothesis by conducting a survey in 2000 of a random sample of the adult population in Hong Kong, China. Results indicate that those with higher postmodern value orientations were less satisfied in 2000. These findings do not demonstrate the significance of postmodernization in Hong Kong. Thus, Hong Kong may not be sufficiently postmodern even though some of its inhabitants hold high orientation to postmodern values.

Abstract:
The article is a survey of the opus of the late Stephen Crook. The work is analysed in three phases: meta-theoretical treatments of foundationalism and mundaneity; substantive theoretical analyses of postmodernization, especially in the areas of culture, science and the environment; and principles along which everyday life is ordered under conditions of structural complexity, uncertainty and radical change. Crook’s work is found to have the potential to offer superior analytic capacity relative to other arguments.

Abstract:
Postmodern social theory has had little impact on studies of global environmental activism and politics, and has often been treated with suspicion. Yet, in this article, I argue that social science theories of both postmodernization and cultural modernization can provide insights into how globalizing processes have affected environmental politics. Where current perspectives on globalization and environmental politics tend to focus on globalization's homogenizing effects, postmodernization arguments suggest that globalization and postmodern social trends have given rise to hybrid, multicultural politics. In the environmental realm, these trends have challenged environmentalists whose claims are based on science and encouraged hybrid forms of environmental activism linking ecological issues to issues of race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. To explore these shifts in environmental politics worldwide, I examine two categories of nonprofit environmental organizations: environmental science organizations and multicultural environmental organizations. Results of an event count analysis show that, for nations, public education predicts the establishment of environmental science organizations. Multicultural environmental organizations were established later, in the 1980s and onward, and tended to be established in countries with preexisting environmental science organizations. I argue that social science theories of cultural modernization and postmodernization can best explain these patterns.

Abstract:

Abstract:
No
This paper considers the challenges facing managers of social care services in public sector organizations in the UK. Some theorists might argue that these challenges are the manifestation of a new postmodern era. It is argued here, however, that society is not fully postmodern: indeed modernity continues with some of its features (such as a concern with rationality and reason) heightened and intensified. Social trends associated with this transitional phase of postmodernization have been highlighted in the literature and here they form the framework for discussing social care management today.

Abstract:
碩士
國立成功大學
建築學系碩博士班
91
Yenshui town has developed since three hundred years ago. Chung-Cheng Road has a key position in the developing process of Yenshui town. Preservations of street houses built in Showa period has been an important issue of conservation of local cultural assets. The purpose of the study is to look for possible solutions and policies of preserving spatial images on Chung Cheng Road through drawing analysis of present street houses and processing of visual analysis. “The postmodernization period” in the study is from the year 1935 to 1938, a period which Japanese Showa emperor ruled Taiwan. That was also the time when street houses on Chung Chen Road were constructed. Two elements of Showa period street houses, the facade and the arcade, constitute a unique feature of streets. According to the analysis of present street houses, it divides elements into seven groups: horizontal elements, vertical elements, opening elements, decorating elements, arcade pillars, apophyges, and arcade openings. The digital simulation of Chung Cheng Road is according to three layers: the space of streets, the facade of street sections, and street-house details, in order to choose ranges and paths for this simulation. The simulation discusses gradually about scales of streets, composite of facade, details and materials of elements and their influences on space of streets. Moreover, the study discusses preserving tatic of present street houses containing Showa street houses, modern street houses, and newly-built street houses. The purpose of preserving Showa street-houses is to expand its using age and to keep its shape. This research suggests the adjustment of modern street houses should be based on additional setting and detail adjustment of elements. The focus of the study is also on accommodating the design of newly-built street houses to the wholeness and continuation of old street houses’ interface. The study is aim at building a designing mechanism of basic framework of street-house elevations and element setting. This mechanism can match those Showa street houses with each other. This research is meant to contribute some efforts to maintaining street characters and space images of Chung Cheng Road.
