Abstract:
This paper examines one of the most influential theories of the 20th century, postmodernism, in the present time. Within this framework, this paper concentrates on the main elements of postmodernism in a critical-historical perspective and the recently developed theories which claim to offer an up-to date theoretical framework for the current ambiguous period. This article also investigates the question of whether these recently developed theories provide a better understanding of the present than classical postmodernism. After analyzing the recent theoretical views on the current, along with the classical postmodernism, in the conclusion the study will emphasis that these views (and classical theories of postmodernism), actually, reveal their lack of definition and explanation about the current. Santrauka Šiame straipsnyje esamuoju laiku nagrinėjama viena įtakingiausių XX amžiaus teorijų – postmodernizmas. Atliekant šiuos tyrinėjimus iš kritinės ir istorinės perspektyvos susitelkiama į pagrindinius postmodernizmo elementus ir pastaruoju metu plėtojamas teorijas, reikalaujančias nūdieniam nevienareikšmiškam laikotarpiui suteikti naujausią teorinį pagrindą. Straipsnyje gvildenamas klausimas, ar šios pastaruoju metu plėtojamos teorijos leidžia geriau suprasti dabartinį, o ne klasikinį postmodernizmą. Išanalizavus naujausius teorinius požiūrius į dabartį kartu su klasikiniu postmodernizmu, išvadose pabrėžiama, kad šie požiūriai (ir klasikinės postmodernizmo teorijos) iš tikrųjų dabartį aiškina nepakankamai apibrėžtai ir tiksliai.

Abstract:
Celem artykułu jest skonfrontowanie postmodernizmu rozumianego jako doktryna filozoficzna, czy, szerzej, pewien typ świadomości kulturowej z ponowoczesnością jako epoką stanowiącą wyraz przemian późnego kapitalizmu. Związki między postmodernizmem I ponowoczesnością analizowane są w perspektywie filozoficzno-socjologicznej poprzez porównanie diagnoz ponowoczesnych przemian przedstawionych przez przedstawicieli postmodernizmu i diagnoz przedstawionych przez socjologów ponowoczesności. W pierwszej części omawiam znaczenie technologii cyfrowych, w których postmoderniści pokładali nadzieję na wyzwolenie potencjału ludzkiej kreatywności, w drugim ponowoczesne procesy indywidualizacji związane z ideą samorealizacji. W konkluzji dochodzę do przekonania, że ponowoczesność sprzeniewierzyła się głoszonym przez postmodernizm ideom wolności, kreatywności, samorealizacji, solidarności. W konkluzji wyrażam przekonanie, że ponowoczesność sprzeniewierzyła się ideom wolności, kreatywności, samorealizacji, solidarności głoszonym przez postmodernistów, które zgodnie z ich nadzieją miała ona urzeczywistnić.

Abstract:
Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza różnic w zakresie filozoficzno-politycznych im­plikacji postmodernistycznej idei dekonstrukcji oraz hermeneutycznej idei autorytetu. W niniejszym tekście przyglądam się temu, w jaki sposób krytyka podstawowych kategorii kulturowych przekłada się na stosunek do trwałości porządku społeczno-politycznego. Znana jest krytyka postmodernizmu a także hermeneutyki przeprowadzona przez Jurgena Habermasa, zdaniem którego odejście od idei uniwersalności rozumu choćby w postaci powszechnie ważnych warunków wolnej komunikacji przekłada się na relatywizm etyczno-polityczny. Moim zdaniem problem z postmodernizmem jest głębszy. Wysnuwam zatem tezę, że postmodernizm, odrzucając obiektyw­ność zarówno ontologiczną, jak i podmiotową, zakłada jednak obiektywność samej dekonstrukcji w sensie działania politycznego, a nie rozumowania czy procedury naukowej. Tymczasem herme­neutyka Gadamerowska, narażona na zarzut historyzmu i relatywizmu, broni się przed nimi dzięki idei autorytetu.Postmodernist structure, hermeneutic authority, or political implications of two postmodern philosophical currentsThe subject of the article is the analysis of differences in the philosophical and political implications of the postmodernist idea of deconstruction and the hermeneutic idea of authority.In this text, I deal with the question of how the critique of basic cultural categories translates into the attitude to the permanence of the socio-political order. There is a known critique of post­modernism as well as hermeneutics, conducted by Jurgen Habermas, in which the departure from the idea of the universality of reason even in the form of universally important conditions of free communication translates into ethical and political relativism. In my opinion, the problem with postmodernism is deeper. My thesis is that postmodernism, rejecting ontological and subjective ob­jectivity, assumes, however, the objectivity of deconstruction itself in the sense of political action, not reasoning or scientific procedure. Meanwhile, Gadamer’s hermeneutics, exposed to the charge of historicism and relativism, defend themselves against them thanks to the idea of authority.

Abstract:
Poprzez odrzucenie zasady czystości formy, postmodernizm umożliwił dogłębną analizę, rewaluację oraz ponowne zdefi niowanie cech charakterystycznych poszczególnych gatunków literackich. Dało to twórcom możliwość zabawy formą oraz tworzenia często nieoczywistych hybryd gatunkowych. Jednym z mistrzów owych międzygatunkowych chimer jest współczesny brytyjski pisarz, sir Terry Pratchett . Twórca z wszech miar przekorny i nie stroniący od eksperymentów literackich, w pełni wykorzystuje wolność gatunkową oferowaną przez tezy postmodernizmu. Efekty owej fascynacji postmodernizmem są dostrzegalne m.in. w serii jego powieści kryminalnych, które po zanalizowaniu okazują się być mieszaniną fantasy, powieści detektywistycznej, powieści policyjnej, kryminału noir, kryminału typu hard-boiled, ballady heroicznej, powieści łotrzykowskiej oraz satyry polityczno-społecznej. Ta wieloskładnikowa mikstura jest, pomimo pozornie chaotycznego doboru składników, tworzona wg starannie opracowanego klucza i zorganizowana wokół jednego głównego gatunku, którym na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się być kryminał noir. Jednakże, oglądane z bliska, kryminały Pratchett a okazują się być, pomimo licznych współczesnych elementów, przedstawicielami klasycznej powieści detektywistycznej sięgającej tradycjami do epoki królowej Wiktorii i wywodzącej się od pewnego dżentelmena z fajką i szkłem powiększającym.

Postmodernizm czyni prawomocność dyskursu poprzez wagę zadawania pytań. Usuwa zarzuty z perspektywy paradygmatu nowożytnej naukowości, które przyjmują formy: „skąd to wiemy?” i na ile to prawomocne itp. Postmodernizm określa takie zarzuty tym, że są zasadne, ale w innym układzie odniesienia, na użytek innego słownika, dlatego w danym dyskursie są nieistotne. Postmodernizm jest po stronie potencjalności pytania i pilnuje tego, by ta potencjalność była realizowana w późniejszej refleksji. Jest przy tym świadomy partykularnego oglądu rzeczy, brakiem bezstronności.

Abstract:
Przedmiotem pracy jest przedstawienie powieści historycznej w Quebeku w latach 1981-1998 w ujęciu postmodernistycznym oraz z perspektywy badań postkolonialnych. W latach osiemdziesiątych dwudziestego wieku powieść historyczna we francuskojęzycznej literaturze kanadyjskiej przeżywała renesans związany z kształtowaniem się świadomości narodowej i stała się jednocześnie odbiciem światowych tendencji. Pierwszy rozdział ukazuje rozwój powieści historycznej w Quebeku i w na świecie. Choć model powieści walterscottowskiej powstał na początku XIX wieku, nadal stanowi niewyczerpane źródło inspiracji dla wielu współczesnych powieściopisarzy i niewielu wpisuje się swymi powieściami w estetykę ponowoczesną. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest historiografii w Quebeku. Zmiana myślenia historycznego wpłynęła na teksty historiograficzne i w dużym stopniu na kształt powieści historycznej. W trzecim rozdziale przedstawiona została myśl ponowoczesna oraz jej wyznaczniki, które posłużyły w rozdziale piątym do analizy wybranych powieści. Pomimo wielu wspólnych elementów literatura quebecka zaliczana jest przez niewielu krytyków do literatury postkolonialnej. Rozdział czwarty jest próbą przedstawienia literatury Kanady i prowincji w kontekście badań postkolonialnych. Dla literatury postkolonialnej historia stanowi jeden z podstawowych tematów, a celem staje się ponowne jej napisanie. W quebeckich tekstach pojawia się reprezentatywna dla literatur skolonizowanych zmiana na płaszczyźnie ideologicznej. Rozdział piąty jest analizą powieści La Tribu François Barcelo, La Maison Trestler ou le 8e jour d’Amérique Madeleine Ouellette-Michalskiej, Triptyque des temps perdus Jeana Marcela oraz La Terre promise, Remember! Noëla Audeta. Powieści tych czterech pisarzy quebeckich dzięki zastosowaniu przez autorów nowatorskich technik narracji oraz zmianie historycznego myślenia i próbie napisania na nowo historii można włączyć zarówno w nurt postmodernistyczny, jak i postkolonialny. Współczesna quebecka powieść historyczna wpisuje się również w ramy realizmu magicznego, nurtu popularnego w powieści latynoamerykańskiej. Rozdziału szósty zarysowuje ramy realizmu magicznego oraz analizuje wybrane powieści pod kątem obecności jego elementów charakterystycznych. Przedstawienie powieści historycznej końca dwudziestego wieku w oparciu o wyżej wymienione utwory wydaje się ważnym elementem dla zrozumienia współczesnej literatury Quebeku, włączając ją w grono literatur postkolonialnych i ponowoczesnych.

Que peut vouloir dire postmoderne ? Et surtout, quels sont les enjeux qui ont traversé les usages de ce terme ? Ce travail soutient que, par-delà le mauvais objet sémantique qu’il constitue, en tant que signifiant flottant et mot-valise, le postmoderne représente un bon objet d’étude pour cerner certains des enjeux théoriques de la fin du vingtième siècle. Il offre ainsi un prisme pertinent pour appréhender les recompositions du marxisme occidental anglophone, les déchirements de la gauche universitaire anglosaxonne et le renouvellement des diverses pensées critiques, au Royaume-Uni comme aux États-Unis. Dans une approche résolument transdisciplinaire, nous étudions l’émergence et les circulations de ce signifiant sur cet axe transatlantique, les interprétations majeures qui l’ont marqué, ainsi que les usages souvent clivants dont il a fait l’objet. Pour retranscrire l’histoire intellectuelle de cette époque, notre démarche historiciste rend compte des débats suscités par la querelle moderniste étatsunienne des années 1960 et 1970, par les interventions de Jean-François Lyotard et Jürgen Habermas, mais surtout par les contributions de Fredric Jameson, Zygmunt Bauman et Stuart Hall tout au long des années 1980 et 1990. A la croisée des champs de la théorie littéraire, de la sociologie politique et des cultural studies, notre étude prend en compte l’imbrication des dimensions théoriques, affectives et politiques afin de situer au mieux les stratégies idéologiques et institutionnelles de cette histoire sociale des idées. Sous la forme d’une sociologie historique d’un espace intellectuel transnational, cette recherche examine les divers circuits présidant à la construction de ce moment postmoderne, pour mieux comprendre de quoi cette effervescence intellectuelle est le nom
What does the term “postmodern” mean? And above all, what were the forces that changed the way we used it? This work argues that beyond being just an inadequate semantical object, an empty signifier, the term “postmodern” is worth studying as it helps us identify some of the theoretical forces which shaped the end of the 20th century. In that respect, it offers a fitting lens to analyse the reconfiguration of western Marxism in the English-speaking world, the conflicts within the Anglo-Saxon Left at the university level and the regeneration of various streams of critical theory in the United Kingdom as well as in the United States. Taking a transdisciplinary stance, this work studies the emergence and the dissemination of that signifier along a transatlantic axis, the major interpretations that were made about it as well as the often conflicting ways it was used. To chart the intellectual history of that era, our historicist approach will take us to the debates around the modernist controversy in the US in the 1960s and 1970s, the involvement of Jean-François Lyotard and Jürgen Habermas and especially the contributions of Fredric Jameson, Zygmunt Bauman and Stuart Hall in the course of the 1980s and 1990s. Borrowing from the fields of literary theory, political sociology and cultural studies, this work takes into account the combination of theoretical, affective and political dimensions in order to best identify the ideological and institutional strategies at play behind this chapter of the social history of ideas. Being essentially a historical sociology of a transnational, intellectual space, this study explores the various paths that led to the construction of this postmodern moment so that we understand better what was truly behind this intellectual effervescence

Algo tan aparentemente inofensivo como un prefijo -"post"- ha revolucionado el debate cultural de la pasada década de los años ochenta al asociarse a la raíz "modern", una de las más privativas de nuestro siglo. Juntos han espoleado casi todos los ámbitos de las ciencias sociales, planteando esta pregunta como una letanía: ¿Existe un "después" para el proyecto de la modernidad?. Esta sociedad lingüística, que cuenta ya con una breve historia de su gestación, desarrollo e instauración, ha dado lugar a variados términos y a variadas acepciones de estos. En esta investigación, centrada en el ámbito de las artes plásticas, el término utilizado es el de "postmodernismo" (Capítulo 1). Pero no es posible crear un modelo verosímil de este si no es a partir de su oposición con los términos modernismo, vanguardia y tardomodernismo. El término "vanguardia", por su naturaleza "histórica", se presenta en la investigación como el referente más eficaz para ensayar una definición del "postmodernismo" insertada en la diacronía (Capítulo 2). El termino modernismo, por su parte, facilita una definición insertada en la sincronía, a través del análisis, desde la perspectiva del "postmodernismo", de dos de sus conceptos constitutivos en el ámbito de las artes plásticas: la historia y la autonomía (Capítulo 3). Todos estos pasos previos son imprescindibles para plantearse un ensayo interpretativo sobre la manifestación del postmodernismo en las artes plásticas cuya hipótesis principal es la siguiente: el postmodernismo genera objetos metaculturales para la representación de la postmodernidad; o dicho de otro modo, la interpretación de las artes plásticas en la década de los ochenta no puede tener lugar sin hacer referencia a la constelación alegórica del postmodernismo: la muerte del sujeto y de la razón en el arte. Estas alegorías marcan hasta tal punto la interpretación de las artes plásticas, que estas no tienen identidad autónoma.

Abstract:
This study explores the shifting notions of postmodernism developed through Muriel Spark’s fiction, and thereby clarifies this artist’s own postmodernism. I use Jean-François Lyotard’s definition of the notion in his The Postmodern Condition (1979), that there is no grand narrative, as my starting point, and deploy various postmodernist theories, which can illuminate Spark’s art and can in turn be illuminated by her art, in my arguments. Throughout the thesis, I focus on two of Spark’s most important themes as crucial keys to understanding her postmodernism: the theme of individual subjectivity and the theme of the interplay of life and art. The thesis begins with the claims Spark makes for her individuality and her individual art through the voice of “I”. Chapter I considers issues about being a woman and an artist, which Spark raises around the narrator-heroine of a fictional memoir, A Far Cry from Kensington (1988). Here I present this heroine as a definition of the strength of Sparkian women who liberate themselves by practicing art. Chapter II discusses Loitering with Intent (1981), a fictional autobiography of a fictional woman novelist, alongside Spark’s own autobiography and her various biographical works. This section illustrates Spark’s notion of the “author” in relation to the “work” - and an author in control in her sense - by investigating the dynamic interplay of life and art in the form of this novel. Chapter III analyses The Driver’s Seat (1970), the novel which most shockingly elucidates the postmodern condition according to Spark and demonstrates her postmodernist narrative strategies. Her concern with the crisis of the “subject” in the world in its postmodern phase is observed in the figure of the heroine, a woman who has tried and failed to be an author in control. I argue that Spark here theorises the notion of subject, by providing her own version of the psychoanalytical “death drive” and also represents the Lacanian real as the unfigurable with this figure. Chapter IV and Chapter V follow the developments of Spark’s discussion of the crisis of the “subject” in two of her later novels. Chapter IV concentrates on the theme of Otherness in Symposium (1990). Chapter V discusses Reality and Dreams (1996), in which Spark pursues the theme of excess and opens up the contradictions inherent in this notion to bring about a new philosophy of life by art as excess.

Abstract:
Bu çalışma, günümüz sanat anlayışının neredeyse bütün biçimlerinde kendini gösteren ve halen tartışılmaya devam eden bir olgu olarak postmodern yaklaşımın sinemasal örneklerini incelemektedir. Bilindiği gibi postmodernizm, modern dönemin bütün kurallarına karşı çıkan, sürekli yenilik ve ilerleme söylemini reddeden yapısıyla kültürel çeşitliliği savunmaktadır. Genel olarak modernitenin sorgulanması ve aşılması olarak değerlendirilen postmodernizm, sanatsal alanda önceki dönem yapıtlarını, alıntılama, öykünme, alaysılama vb. yöntemlerle yeni olanla yinelemektedir. Günümüzde neredeyse hemen her şeyin alıntılama üzerine kurulu olduğu postmodern sanat yaklaşımı ve sinemasal metinler temel bir estetik seçim olarak metinlerarasılık yöntemlerine başvurmaktadır. Postmodern öğretinin okuma yöntemi olarak kabul gören metinlerarasılık kavramı iki ya da daha fazla metin arasındaki bir tür söyleşim, etkileşim ya da iki farklı gösterge dizgesi arasındaki alışveriş işlemleri olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Metinlerarasılık bağlamında sinemasal alanda önceki döneme ait yapıtlar, alıntılama, kopyalama, gönderme vb. yöntemlerle güncellenmekte ve bu uygulamalar özellikle 80'li yıllardan sonra sıklıkla karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Sanatlar arasındaki katı kuralları kaldıran, farklı disiplinleri birbirleriyle harmanlayan postmodern yaklaşım, bu alanda oldukça yoğun ilişkileri kapsamaktadır. Bu bağlamda, son dönemde metinlerarasılığın yanı sıra farklı sanat disiplinleri arasındaki ilişkileri tanımlamak için yeni yaklaşımlara ihtiyaç duyularak değişik disiplinler arasındaki ilişkileri belirtmek için 'göstergelerarasılık' kavramı tercih edilir olmuştur. Görsel çağda yaşadığımız günümüzde sinema, kitlelere eğlence sunan ticari bir araç olarak kendine özgü karma bir yapıya sahiptir. Sinema, karma yapısı nedeniyle, ilk yıllardan itibaren farklı sanatsal disiplinler ile ilişki içerisinde olarak değişik disiplinlerden yararlanmaktadır bu bağlamda yapılan çalışmalar postmodern sinema alanında göstergelerarasılık olarak değerlendirilmektedir.

Abstract:
Th e architecture of the city of Chisinau has been formed for more than a hundred years in diffi cult historical and socio-economic conditions, being infl uenced by the conceptual transformations of world architecture. During the study period, the architecture of buildings underwent a consistent stylistic transformation from historical to modern trends: eclecticism, neoclassicism, modernism, and postmodernism. In the last two decades, there has been an increase in the infl uence of conceptual direct ions of development of foreign architecture on the creative processes of postmodernist orienta tion taking place in Moldovan architecture. Th e research makes it possible to determine the current trends in the development of architecture in Chisinau, denoting them with the concepts – “Convergence”, “Reminiscence” and “contradiction”, which has a certain architectural and stylistic reference with corresponding compositional techniques that refl ect the polystylism of the development of world architecture.

Abstract:
Academic novel is by definition a cultural enterprise, but it can properly surprise the hostility of an extremely hierarchical environment. Concepts, ideas and archetypes are preserved and melted in the literary substance even with the help of irony and pastiche. Or, better said, irony and pastiche are means of avoiding the hostility of a milieu blocked in stereotypes and snobbery. Kingsley Amis’s novel ”Lucky Jim” absorbs modernist cultural ingredients in order to demythologize them in a postmodern fashion. Anyway, it seems that the process of demythization implies the subsequent process of re-mythization. The cultural heritage is unavoidable in the last phase of postmodernism. In 1975 we can hardly speak about cultural aphasia. The individual with a postmodernist Weltanschauung plays the satirical role of the knight errant in search of falsified (dragonized) modernist mentalities and cultural options. This paper will analyse the risks and methods of demythization and the reverse process in an attempt to understand the cultural logic of antimodernist approaches.

Abstract:
The prerequisites for this study are criticism of postmodernism by theorists and philosophers of culture, and the actualisation of metamodernism as one of the most popular theories of postmodernism. The relevance of the study is determined by the appearance of a ‘new sensitivity’ having arisen from geopolitical events of the 2000s. Metamodernism theory authors declare the new structure of sensation to be different from the dominants of postmodernism and modernism. The article describes the transformation of the representation of cultural traumas in public discourse with the consideration of ideas of metamodernism and a new frankness. The article covers the methodological capabilities for using postmodernism and metamodernism discourses for analysing the principles of representation of cultural trauma within public discourse. Distinguishing features of new frankness are highlighted. Immortal Regiment action is analysed as an example of actualisation of personal experience and family history in public discourse. The concept of ‘new frankness’ increases the role and significance of the witness. The examples of works of contemporary mass culture and media resources are used to trace the actualisation of the witness’s narrative of cultural trauma. Warmth, depth, and affect, characteristic of metamodernism, actualise the demand for plausibility and personal experience of an event. An indirect effect of these hypotheses consists in that narratives on cultural trauma are multivariate as manifested in criticism of the conventional image of a historic event. Re-evaluating historical events from different points of view triggers mechanisms of latent trauma, potentially making almost any historical event a cultural trauma. The study resulted in the revelation of accentuation of sensitivity in narratives of cultural traumas, as opposed to manners prevailing in modernism and postmodernism discourses, i.e. practices of stigmatisation, suppression, and the commodification of cultural traumas.
