We performed a retrospective study of patients undergoing total knee and hip arthroplasty on an enhanced recovery programme, to identify pre- and postoperative factors contributing to an increased length of hospital stay. Introduction. Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence (UI) have increasing prevalence in the elderly population. The aim of this study was to compare the comorbidities of these procedures between <70 y/o and ≥70 y/o patients.Materials and Methods. In our retrospective study over a period of 2.5 years, 407 patients had received an urogynecological procedure. All patients with POP were treated by reconstructive surgery. Complications were reported using the standardized classification of Clavien-Dindo (CD). The study can be assigned to stage 2b Exploration IDEAL (Idea, Developmen

Abstract:
Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and image guidance are increasingly being used to support surgeons in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative decision making and optimized patient care. Surgery is the cornerstone of curative treatment in pancreatic diseases, and a large amount of perioperative data are becoming available with the widespread application of minimally invasive surgical techniques. AI is showing promise in the prediction of malignancy and resectability from preoperative images. A further clinical focus is the prediction of postoperative complications,

A patient with recent jaw reconstruction presented for treatment of postoperative oropharyngeal hemorrhage. Asleep nasal fiberoptic intubation was attempted, but a rare and unanticipated complication ensued: rupture of right facial artery pseudoaneurysm. The difficult airway algorithm was followed up to the point of surgical airway. While nasal or oral fiberoptic intubation is often perceived as the safest approach for management of a difficult airway, we discuss alternative treatment strategies for patients with a facial pseudoaneurysm. Such alternatives include preoperative angiographic endo

Background: Surgical procedures, while crucial for medical treatment, often induce significant psychological stress, particularly preoperative and postoperative anxiety. This anxiety can adversely affect clinical outcomes, including increased pain perception, delayed wound healing, and extended hospital stays. Despite advancements in surgical care, the psychological aspects of surgery remain underexplored, highlighting the need for systematic evaluation of anxiety throughout the surgical journey. Abstract:
Obesity is one of the most prevalent global health challenges, contributing to numerous comorbidities. Sleeve gastrectomy is a prominent intervention for severe obesity; however, failure to adhere to postoperative nutritional supplementation and regular laboratory monitoring may lead to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals (e.g., vitamin D and calcium) and increase the risk of osteoporosis. This study evaluated the impact of Sleeve gastrectomy on serum vitamin D and calcium levels in 70 patients (15 males, 55 females) who underwent the procedure at least six months prior in Misrata, Libya.
