This thesis analyzes how a decrease in the commuting time affects the region’s productivity and accessibility on the targeted area Jönköping, Vaggeryd and Värnamo. Numerous municipalities that surround the railway, within a one-hour time range have been included to determine whether an investment on the railway is efficient. The potential growth effects and productivity are measured in wages, and the accessibility is measured as population accessibility. The accessibility is calculated with an accessibility measure, also known The Potential of Opportunities. Additionally, the study includes fo

Nordmeyer, Dana L. "Effects of jet aircraft overflights and other potential disturbances on behavioral responses and productivity of nesting peregrine falcons." Thesis, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/1957/33637.

Full text
Abstract:
In order to examine the potential impact of military jet overflights and other disturbances on productivity of peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus), we observed behavioral reactions of peregrines to disturbances at nests along the Tanana River, Alaska during the 1995-1997 breeding seasons. Military jets conducted low-altitude flights over a sample of nests under observation in each year (experimental nests), while other nests were not intentionally overflown (reference nests). Other disturbances occurred at random. Animal noise monitors (ANMs), which collect and store data on noise disturbance

"The Influence of Controlling Redox Potential on Plasma Membrane Fatty Acid Composition during Very High Gravity Fermentation." Thesis, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10388/ETD-2015-12-2362.

Full text
Abstract:
Fatty acid components on yeast plasma membrane were critical in maintaining proper cell activity during bioethanol fermentation. The alteration of fatty acid composition on yeast plasma membrane was recognized as an adaptive response to several environmental stress including osmotic pressure, ethanol inhibition and nutrients limit. These stresses were exacerbated under very-high-gravity condition in which excessive fermentable sugar was provided in feedstock. Controlling redox potential was proved beneficial in improving yeast performance under very-high-gravity condition. Fatty acid synthesis

Full text
Abstract:
The primary aim of this survey is to: * explore whether there is potential for job-sharing in the South African labour market; * * describe the characteristics of potential job-sharers and to explain why Job-sharing would be an appropriate and feasible solution to unemployment, massive retrenchments, poor quality ofwork life (QWL) and low worker productivity Job-sharing has been used in many developed countries to address a variety of problems at the individual, organisational and national level. These include allowing workers to have a balance between their work and non-work life; to

The complete thesis in print form is available from the University Library.<br>This thesis examines genetic variation in growth rate and growth form among subterranean clover cultivars in winter. The effect of plant density and sowing time on growth rate and sward structure of subterranean clover in winter and the impact of grazing intensity on morphology and nutritive value of subterranean clover is studied. It explores also genetic variation in the nutritive value of subterranean clover

Abstract:
People are not always rational, rely on heuristics and are influenced by situational factors being conducive to biased decisions. Hence, the decision outcome cannot be explained by consumers’ preferences exclusively. This offers opportunities to service managers to steer the decision outcome into a desirable direction by a beneficial design of situational factors. In contrast to the discussed opportunities, situational factors can also become a pitfall for researchers and managers. I show that situational factors may compromise the validity of research results based on self reports in a servic

Abstract:
Agroforestry parkland systems, in which a low population density of mature trees occur scattered across farmland, are common land use systems in Ethiopia. Parkland trees, including Faidherbia albida (Delile) A.Chev, have been associated with improved soil fertility and crop productivity and they provide ecological services such as carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation. However, trees can also have detrimental impacts on understory crops because of competition for resources such as light, nutrients and water. Thus, it is necessary to select suitable tree and crop species as well as
