Abstract:
Elemental analysis of pottery sherds provided insights on the ceramic production in the Huancabamba Valley (northern highland-Peru) and the way in which the Incas administrate the provinces. The pottery sherds from six archaeological sites selected for elemental analysis indicated the use of similar clay sources in the manufacture of pottery. The production of ceramic vessels took place at the local level without the strict control of the Inca state. The Incas built administrative structures in the Huancabamba Valley in order to maintain control of their road system, which connected the north

Among the most recognizable of Mimbres cultural traïts is the production of a white-slipped brown-paste ceramic decorated with bold, black, geometric designs. By about A.D. 1000, Mimbres pottery came to be more elaborately decorated with finely executed geomètric designs; in some cases, vessels were decorated with naturalistic motifs of animals, humans, plants, and anthropomorphized fig

The translation of a fantasy book is no easy task. Every fantasy author creates not only new characters but also new places, creatures and objects: J.K. Rowling invented a whole universe that lasted seven books and eight movies, and that has changed the lives of many children all over the world. The aim of this dissertation is to dig underneath Harry's adventures, to rediscover his origins and to analyse the choices operated by the Italian translators, who had the important task to make this universe accessible to families who could not read about it in English.

And the Tradition Continues: The Ceramics of Inka Period in Ayacucho Valley, PerúIn this paper, I evaluate the stylistic classification of the so called "Chanka" pottery. On the basis of the most recent findings I argue that the Chanka pottery, in particular Arqalla and Aya Orqo types, is not an exclusive pre-Inka manifestation. The new evidence from Qaqas strongly suggests that the local pottery tradition continued being manufactured during Inka times. The Inka state, therefore, seems not to have altered much the local tradition and that local populations seem to have continued inhabiting the

Investigations in the 1990s revealed the presence of a Wari center at the site, identified by its characteristic orthogonal architecture. Testing of the site recovered two radiocarbon samples that provided tenth century dates for the construction of the center. Reading the Material Record of Inka Rule: Perspectives from the North Coast of PerúThe Peruvian north coast was an area rich in people and resources that was conquered by the Inka in ca. 1470. The Inka presence in the north coast has been difficult to define archaeologically because of the relative absence of architecture and objects following Cuzco canons as well as the apparent conservatism or persistence of north coastal styles, which have hampered efforts to define a chronology of the late prehispanic period. Despite these problems, fieldwork at local centers and state installations has re

Collota, Netahaha and the Development of the Wari Power in Cotahuasi Valley, Arequipa, PerúAn enduring problem in the study of ancient states and empires is modem recognition of different forms of regional consolidation when employing only data available in the archaeological record. The construction of an administrative center is one of the clear indicators of a state's presence. Areas with these types of centers are often described as pockets of direct control in an imperial mosaic.
