Abstract:
This paper generalizes the integration theory for volatility modulated Brownian-driven Volterra processes onto the space [Formula: see text] of Potthoff–Timpel distributions. Sufficient conditions for integrability of generalized processes are given, regularity results and properties of the integral are discussed. We introduce a new volatility modulation method through the Wick product and discuss its relation to the pointwise-multiplied volatility model.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Wais, Verena, Stephan Bohl, Lukas Kündgen, et al. "Reduced Intensity Conditioning with Fludarabine, BCNU and Melphalan (FBM) for Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Elderly AML Patients: Factors Predicting Outcome." Blood 126, no. 23 (2015): 5523. http://dx.doi.org/10.1182/blood.v126.23.5523.5523.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: With the introduction of reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC), the age limit for allogeneic transplantation of AML patients has risen to 65 and above. In order to balance a low transplant-related mortality (TRM) with high anti-leukemic efficacy, Marks et al.1 introduced FBM conditioning consisting of 150mg/m2 Fludarabine, 300mg/m2 BCNU and 110mg/m2 Melphalan as RIC for elderly patients with encouraging results. However, no detailed analysis of factors predicting outcome in this subpopulation has been presented so far. Methods: In this two-center retrospective study, 51 patients (pts) with a median age of 64 y (range, 44-75y) diagnosed with AML were uniformly treated according to the FBM protocol. GvHD prophylaxis consisted of Ciclosporin A (CYA) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in all patients. MMF was tapered after d50 and CYA after d90 in the absence of GvHD. Pts with matched unrelated donors (MUD) (n=33) or mismatched unrelated donors (MMUD) (n=9) received additional ATG or low dose alemtuzumab as GvHD and rejection prophylaxis. 9 pts with matched related donor (MRD) only received CYA and MMF as GvHD prophylaxis. Stem cell source was peripheral blood in 90% (n=46) and marrow in 10% (n=5) of the patients. The median number of transfused CD34+ cell was 7.1 million per kg body weight. The median follow-up at the time of analysis was 27 months. At the time of transplant 38 pts were in complete remission; the rest of the pts had active disease (partial remission or refractory disease). Molecular (NPM1, FLT3-ITD and CEBPA a) and cytogenetic characteristics (evaluable in 50 patients) were available for all patients. Results: Acute regimen-related toxicity was low, with a d30 mortality of 0 % in both centers. After 2 years, treatment failure was mainly due to relapse (CIR) with 36% (SE: 8%) in comparison to TRM (20%, SE: 7%). The resulting progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) at 2 years was 50 % (SE: 5%) and 61% (SE: 7%), respectively. The median EBMT score was 4 (range 2-6). The EBMT score had no impact on different outcome variables (CIR (p=0.465), PFS (p=0.352) and OS (p=0.171)). Based on cytogenetic and molecular data patients were categorized according to the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) classification. 10% (n=5) of the patients belonged to the ELN favorable, 39% (n=20) to the ELN intermediate I, 29% (n=15) to the ELN intermediate II and 22% (n=11) to the ELN adverse risk group. Neither the ELN score itself nor stratification according to FLT3 -ITD or NPM1 mutation status or cytogenetic risk group impacted on outcome in our cohort. A trend for an improved OS in patients with NPM1 mutation (not stratified for FLT3-ITD or FLT3-TKD) was detected (p=0.255). By analyzing further risk factors such as remission status, donor type, age, CMV status, CD34+ cell number and acute or chronic GvHD we found the disease status at the time of transplant being the dominant predictor for OS. After 2 years patients transplanted not in remission had only an OS of 20% (SE: 8%) as compared to 75% (SE: 12%) in patients transplanted in CR (p<0.001) (Figure 1). Conclusion: In this cohort of elderly patients with AML receiving allogeneic transplantation after FBM conditioning, disease status at the time of transplant was the dominant prognostic factor for outcome. At the present follow-up neither molecular status nor cytogenetics impacted OS, PFS or CIR, significantly. We conclude that alternative strategies have to be applied using FBM conditioning in refractory patients, i.e. the early tapering of immunosuppression and the use of donor lymphocytes or cytoreduction immediately before the start of conditioning. An additional focus should be on novel compounds, which might help to increase CR rates at time of transplant. References 1. Marks R, Potthoff K, et al. Abstract:
This article measures, compares, and analyzes the degree to which local factors, be they candidate qualities or district characteristics, affect electoral politics. It applies Morgenstern and Potthoff’s components-of-variance model to 56 parties or coalitions to measure the “local vote” and shows that only in some cases do local factors manifest themselves in voting patterns. To explain this finding, the authors argue that the type of executive system, ideological cohesion, and a country’s ethnic heterogeneity combined with federalism are all strongly tied to the local vote patterns. Statistical tests also show that in spite of the large literature on the incentives that electoral systems can offer to candidates to pursue a personal vote, the electoral system does not have a clear impact on the local vote.

Abstract:
An urban sample of referred and nonreferred Black, Hispanic, and Anglo pupils were assessed with the WISC-R and K-ABC cognitive and achievement scales. Approximately 38% of the Hispanic sample was identified as Limited-English Proficient (LEP). Analysis of various procedures revealed differences in cognitive and achievement performance due to pupils' ethnicity, referral status, and LEP status. Predictive bias was examined using Potthoff's (1966) simultaneous test of regression slopes and intercepts. For both WISC-R and K-ABC IQ measures, a number of regressions on the K-ABC Total and Arithmetic achievement measures evidenced bias across ethnic groups for both referred and nonreferred samples. Bias due to language dominance also was found for WISC-R and K-ABC composite scales. Implications of predictive bias for assessment and placement of minority and LEP children in special education classes are discussed.

AbstractA characterisation of the spaces $${\mathcal {G}}_K$$ G K and $${\mathcal {G}}_K'$$ G K ′ introduced in Grothaus et al. (Methods Funct Anal Topol 3(2):46–64, 1997) and Potthoff and Timpel (Potential Anal 4(6):637–654, 1995) is given. A first characterisation of these spaces provided in Grothaus et al. (Methods Funct Anal Topol 3(2):46–64, 1997) uses the concepts of holomorphy on infinite dimensional spaces. We, instead, give a characterisation in terms of U-functionals, i.e., classic holomorphic function on the one dimensional field of complex numbers. We apply our new characterisation to derive new results concerning a stochastic transport equation and the stochastic heat equation with multiplicative noise.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Student evaluation of teaching (SET) has steadily, but surely, become an important assessment tool in higher education. Although SET provides feedback on students level of satisfaction with the course and the lecturer, the validity of its results has been questioned. After extensive studies, the factor which is believed to distort the SET results is gender of the lecturer. In this paper, Potthoff analysis is employed to additionally explore whether there is gender bias in SET. Namely, this analysis has been used with great success to compare linear regression models between groups. Herein, we aimed to model the overall lecturer impression with independent variables related to teaching, communication skills, and grading and compare the models between genders. The obtained results reveal that gender bias exists in certain cases in the observed SET. We believe that our research might provide additional insights on the interesting topic of gender bias in SET.

Abstract Bladder cancer incidence is investigated in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône to provide answers to the population reporting an excess of cancer cases in industrial areas. The study aimed to describe the geographical variations of bladder cancer incidence among men and detect potential spatial clusters without point source specification. Incident cases diagnosed between 2013 and 2016 were extracted from the departmental observatory of cancers REVELA13. Age-standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) were calculated for each commune and bayesian smoothed risk estimate based on the Besag, York and Mollie model were computed for incidence mapping. Morans’I, Potthoff-Whittinghill and Tango statistic tests were used to investigate global clustering and the spatial scan statistic of Kulldorf (SaTScan) was used to investigate local clustering. Analyses were adjusted on a French deprivation index, access to health-care services and population density. During the study period, 1 735 cases of bladder cancers were diagnosed among men. The study found a spatial heterogeneity (p < 0.01) and aggregation (p < 0.01) but no spatial autocorrelation (p = 0.09). Bayesian smoothed SIRs were not related to the confounding factors studied. An over-incidence was observed in the communes located in the South East of the department including Marseille, the biggest city of the study area. SaTScan algorithms detected two significant high-risk clusters in the same area (RR = 1.50 and 1.38). Introduction of each confounding factors in spatial scan detection, changed slightly the shape of clusters and/or the value of the relative risk but not the location. None high-risk cluster was detected in the communes of the industrial area. Spatial analysis provides a first answer to the population concerning an excess of risk of bladder cancer at commune level. However, more analysis should be led to identify etiological factors or common environmental exposure. Key messages Geographic disparities exist in bladder cancer incidence among men at a commune level in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône. Spatial analysis show excess of risk of bladder cancer in the south-east of the department including the urban area of Marseille.
