Full textThe main objective of this study is to evalulate the banking infuence on the development of aviculture products, by providing lines of credit to this setor, effectively enhancing the performance of poultry production, as is perceived by the unit Managers, and the Participant in the productive arrangements. Therefore, based on the knowledgable works of various authors, on the inter-organizational networks, a two step survey was conceived. The first step, considered exploratory in nature, utilized a sample of six managers: one from each participating company integrating the research, two from the financial institution participant in the productive arrangements, and two managers from the integrated units. The data collected and analyzed permitted: a) a greater understanding of the productive arrangements in Poultry Production, b) a comparison of the perceptions of managers against the literature reviewed, and c) the preparation of the questionnaires used in the second step of the research. The second step is considered descriptive in nature. We obtained a sample of 400 poultry farmers (or respondents), of which, 200 respondents were linked to each integrated corporation (or cold storage facility participants). The data collected and processed by means of descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis, presented the following results: a) significant statistical differences (α ≤ 0.05) in having banking credit access by the integrated units, and among the integrating company that had the direct presence of financial institution and, as well as, those that did not have such involvement, b) a positive relationship between banking credit access and the quality of investments, and c) no statistically significant relationship (α ≤ 0.05) between the quality of investments and the productive performance of the aviaries. The obtained results, concluded that the existence of a financial institution in the productive arrangement contributed to the overall improvement of the conditions for obtaining bank financing. Thus positively affecting the quality of investments. Nevertheless, the study did not provide evidence for the influence of financial intermediation in the productive performance of aviculture.

Full textHealth surveillance is defined as the production and processing of data aimed at informing health risk mitigation programs. Surveillance of infectious animal diseases is usually considered as a public good, involving the responsibility of the state. Surveillance of transboundary emerging diseases, like HPAI, is even perceived as an international public good, justifying information sharing between countries. The most common type of surveillance, i.e. passive or reactive surveillance, is based on communications from private or public actors of the information they hold about the health status of animal populations they observe to authorities in charge of health surveillance. Animal health is therefore confronted with the problematic of public goods whose production depends on decentralized private decision. Two questions may be raised: what are the factors influencing the decision to transmit information to public surveillance systems? Are these factors solely of monetary nature or are they linked with other types of issues, among which the social environment of individuals, the place where they live and their power relationships? Another question relates to the existence of information networks established between private and public actors which enable to a part of the population of sanitary threats. How these are networks constituted? To which extent are they linked with public surveillance systems? Which type of risk management do they allow? The studied case is H5N1 HPAI in domestic poultry in Southeast Asia. A study was conducted in four areas of limited spatial scale distributed in two countries, three in Viet Nam and one in Thailand. Graph theory was applied to the diffusion of information related to HPAI suspicions between actors, private or public. The structure of these networks is shaped by the political organization of rural places, the villages, and by the value chains to which poultry farms belong. In study areas of Viet Nam with widespread commercial poultry farming, upstream actors of the value chain, supplying feed and veterinary products to farmers have better access to information from the commercial and backyard poultry farms. In the Thailand study area, actors participating in cock fighting games have a better access to information from backyard farms. These actors who are central in information networks facilitate the spatial spread of information and access of farmers to information from distant locations. Veterinary authorities are included in the information networks but their attributed priority is week in comparison with private actors of value chains. Besides, qualitative and semi-quantitative interviews were conducted, using tools of participatory epidemiology, in order to identify issues linked with suspicion reporting to veterinary authorities. Those issues differ according to places and types of poultry production. They go beyond purely monetary concerns: sanitary risks and environmental nuisances to the neighborhood, responsibility in economic losses of other farmers and commercial partners and social and affective value of animals are potential components of the decision of farmers to report a suspicion to veterinary authorities. A part of these issues are linked with disease control measures implemented by the state in response to sanitary risks. However, others are strictly associated with information spread. It is the case, for example, of impacts of information on poultry market prices

Full textThe aim of this study was to analyze the competitiveness of a cooperative from Paraná participant in the chain of poultry, using the value chain analysis. From the methodological point of view, the research is documentary, explanatory and takes a case study nature. The research is explanatory because it aims to identify factors that determine or contribute to the occurrence of phenomena. In relation to the documentary procedure, the investigation has focused on competitiveness issues, strategic cost management and on understanding of the role of companies in promoting regional development. This is a case study involving the poultry production activity of a cooperative that is present almost all over the West of Paraná, specifically Lar Agribusiness Cooperative, with its head office in Medianeira. This choice is justified by the similarity of its poultry production chain to the other cooperatives in the region, which adopt modern technologies in the production of chicken, slaughter and distribution of final products. To develop this study it was adopted the methodology of building the value chain inserted into the theoretical framework of strategic cost management, and the research has used as base the formation of the value of boneless chicken breast sold to the customer Super Poultry in Europe. It was found that the main critical links in the value chain involve the relationship between the area of grain and the poultry steering committee, and the relationship between the company studied and the farmer engaged in chicken rearing. The research has identified the occurrence of short-term contracts in the value chain, specifically when it involves the active matrix chick. The research has also revealed that the company needs to improve its competitiveness through reduced cost of live chicken ready for slaughter. The company has proved to be competitive in the share of the cost of live chicken that is the producer s responsibility, but needs to act on the variable costs of the share of the cost of live chicken rearing. It was observed as well that the cost of corn, soybean meal, fertile egg and the quantity produced are the main components of the value chain that alter the average cost of the chicken breast studied. Finally, the study has identified opportunities for improvement in cost of inputs and raw materials, through better corporate management of the procurement process, establishment of long-term partnerships with suppliers and competitors, as well as the creation of strategic stocks of raw materials. Accordingly, the hypothesis of this study was confirmed by identifying that some critical factors for competitiveness in costs were not known by the poultry industry managers at the time of their decisions on the planning and marketing of chicken meat.
Ngwenya, Lloyd. "Microbiological analysis of bacterial pathogens in poultry feeds and water resources in Blouberg Poultry Value Chain Project, Limpopo Province, South Africa." Thesis, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10386/2961.
Full textPoultry is a good source of animal protein for many households due to its affordability. However, it is prone to bacterial infections which can be passed on to consumers, hence chickens that are reared without constant health checks present a potential health threat to humans. The objective of the study was to identify the zoonotic bacterial pathogens in poultry feeds and water resources in Blouberg poultry value chain project. A total of 88 samples comprising of 14 feed samples, 14 water samples, 60 mouth and rectal swab samples were collected from the farms. The samples were screened for the presence of Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp. and Shigella spp. through selective cultivation. Only coliforms and the dominant isolates were identified as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., and Enterobacter spp., Salmonella and Shigella spp. were not detected in all the samples. E. coli strains that were isolated from the water sources and mouth and rectal swabs of the chickens showed a significant resistance to gentamycin, neomycin, penicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline, erythromycin, nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin and ampicillin (p<0.05). Klebsiella pneumoniae showed resistance to neomycin; penicillin; erythromycin (p<0.05) while K. oxytoca and E. absuriae showed similar antibiotic resistance profile as penicillin, erythromycin, nalidixic acid and ampicillin. E. coli and K. pneumonia are mostly implicated in poultry disease outbreaks and they are enteric pathogens in humans as well. The presence of pathogens in poultry presents a great risk of secondary infection in humans and this will lead to socio-economic problems for the affected communities. The information generated in this study will guide the relevant stakeholders who handle poultry feeds and water resources in following good management practices. 1

The Taiwan's poultry industry value chain of incubation, breeding, slaughtering and processing is complete, and the cooperative fostering model has also been developed in the chicken farming. Many large-scale poultry companies have developed one-stop production mode through their own incubating equipments, feed mills and processing plants. Through the consistent production process, the case company can not only effectively control the quality of the final product, but also improve the price fluctuation caused by the imbalance between production and sales. Value co-creation originally means that the business must create value with consumers. From the perspective of strategic management, the stakeholders involved in business operations should be also regarded as value co-creators, and the value is created together from interested parties, such as suppliers, partners, distributors, community groups, government agencies, schools, individuals, etc. The object of this case study is the farmer Y and its supply chain partners in Taiwan's poultry industry. Through the value co-creation perspective, we analyze the value co-creation model of all stakeholders involved in the production supply chain, draw a clearer industrial supply chain system, and finally propose the value co-creation strategy of the poultry industry. The case company takes the planned production and actively participates in the breeders’ production process, requiring the breeders to farm chicken according to its standard operating procedures, and provides the breeders with immediate market information to stabilize the market price, sales volume, and to accumulate the tacit understanding of long-term cooperation, and thus can enhance the supply chain efficiency. Operational efficiency. In addition, the case company adopts a strict distribution control strategy and supply chain information system to maintain the stable supply, quality and price advantages of the wholesalers. This can not only protect the feeders, in the mean time, but influence the downstream food processing industry to create greater supply chain benefits. The farmer Y company actively maintains the interests and needs of the members in the supply chain system, and coordinates the requirements for quality, quantity and delivery between supply chain partners to keep a stable cycle of procurement.
