Abstract:
Influence optical response on underetching of plasmonic antennas is observed in this thesis. When light falls with resonant wavelength on the optical antennas, the electromagnetic field is amplified near this antennas. The resonant wavelength depends on the length of the antenna and on effective refractive index given by the ambient properties around the antenna. The contact surface with substrate (dielectric) is reduced by underetching the antenna and the effective refractive index is changed and thus the optical response of the antenna is changed.

Abstract:
The diploma thesis provides an introduction to electronic and optical properties of graphene, emphasizing thier tunability through the ambipolar field effect. Furthermore, an experiment, which would demonstrate the possible utilization of graphene in active plasmonics, is presented. The author focuses on light scattering simulations involving hybrid plasmonic structures made of noble metals and graphene. The scattering properties of those structures and their dependence on the density of free charge carriers in graphene are investigated. The author concludes that the proposed tuning of the response of a single metallic antenna through the electrostatic doping of graphene proves to be inefficient, and a more elaborate configuration will be required to enhance the effect and achieve the desired control.

The presented diploma thesis is focused on the Localized Surface Plasmons (LSP). The far-field optical response of the colloidal solutions of gold nanoparticles caused by LSP was investigated and compared with the numerical calculations. For the simulations, the Discrete Dipole Approximation (DDA) and Finite-Difference Time Domain (FDTD) techniques were employed. In particular, the shape and size effects of spherical particles and nanorods were studied. The simulations performed by both methods are in a good agreement for the spheres. For the nanorods, the resonance was found to be affected markedly by their geometry. Also, broader resonance peaks were found. This effect was assigned to the sample size distribution and its influence is discussed by comparing the simulations with experiments. In addition, synthesis of nanorods was carried out as well. Finally, the results on the study of optical properties of silver clusters formed under equilibrium conditions are presented.

Proposed diploma thesis is focused on preparation and characterization of the plasma polymer thin films based on tetravinylsilane monomer (TVS). Plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) method involving pulse and continual plasma discharge modes were used for thin film deposition on silicon wafer pieces. Reactive plasma composition was containing pure TVS or mixtures of TVS and argon or oxygen gas. Atomic force microscopy was used for surface topography and roughness characterization. Cyclic nanoindentation was involved to measurements to determine the Young’s modulus and hardness of prepared films and scratch test was performed to evaluate the degree of adhesion. Special attention was drawn to the characterization of films with a Young’s modulus below 10 GPa. Tip geometry of indenter influence on scratch test was also commented. Surface and mechanical properties of thin films in relation to the deposition conditions were correlated to the obtained results and final analysis of deposition conditions influence is proposed.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis was focused on the possibility of using a plasma nozzle to accelerate the wound healing process. The benefits of using low-temperature plasma in medicine or biomedical applications are known from many studies, and low-temperature plasma is already used to sterilize medical devices, materials or surgical instruments. Some studies also report a high potential of usinh plasma nozzle in the treatment of skin wounds. In the experimental part of this work, an in vitro wound healing test was performed using two different low-temperature plasma sources. Source No. 1 was a surface wave microwave discharge and source No. 2 was a torch microwave discharge. An in vitro scratch healing test was performed on a monolayer of HaCaT keratinocytes and testing was performed using various parameters. The influence of the plasma treatment time was monitored, as well as the influence of the plasma discharge power and also the influence of the argon working gas flow. Especially when using a torch microwave discharge, faster wound healing was recorded at most of the parameters used compared to the control. Thus, it can be said that this source appears to be potentially suitable for faster wound healing. Furthermore, in the work using the MTT cytotoxicity test, the viability of skin cells after their plasmination was also monitored using the same conditions as in the in vitro wound healing test. When performed in the standard MTT assay, none of the settings or sources used showed any cytotoxic effects on keratinocytes. LDH cytotoxicity tests were also performed concurrently to verify the accuracy of the MTT assays. The results of both tests agreed and the use of low-temperature plasma in skin treatment can be considered as safe. Overall, the results show that the plasma nozzle can find use in medicine in the healing of skin wounds and chronic defects as a potentially fast, inexpensive and effective method.

Abstract:
Naše studie umožnila identifikovat několik módů lokalizovaných povrchových plazmonů v těchto anténách a charakterizovat jejich vlastnosti včetně energie módu, rozložení elektrické a magnetické složky blízkého pole módu, a kvalitativní rozložení uzlů náboje a proudu souvisejících oscilací elektronového plynu.

Title: Surface plasmons in optical microstructures and their sensor applications Author: Pavel Adam Institute: Institute of Photonics and Electronics AS CR, v.v.i., Department of Optical Sensors Supervisor of the doctoral thesis: doc. Ing. Jiří Homola, CSc., DSc. Abstract: This work is focused on the study of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor platforms based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) of multiple surface plasmons (SPs). These sensors are based on advanced diffraction gratings supporting either conventional or Bragg-scattered SPs, which are simultaneously excited at different wavelengths. These SPs are studied both analytically and numerically using rigorous coupled-wave analysis and an integral approach. WDM of two and three SPs is presented and followed by the method for the analysis of the resolution, noise and cross-sensitivity. This method is employed to analyze the ability of different SPR sensor platforms (supporting WDM of two SPs) to discriminate refractive index (RI) changes in a thin layer at the sensor surface from background RI changes. The WDM SPR sensors based on advanced diffraction gratings prepared by interferometric holography are developed and tested in a model biosensing experiment consisting of the layer-by-layer growth of protein multilayers. RNDr. Petr Kužel, Dr., department of Chemical Physics and Optics - external employee Abstract: The goal of this thesis is analytical, numerical and experimental study of surface plasmons in terahertz spectral range The description of the surface plasmon propagation along metal/dielectric interface can be done purely analytically. Our goal is to obtain the description of the surface plasmon propagating in more complex dielectric layered structures which are in contact with metallic layer. Analysis of the surface plasmon dispersion curves in anisotropic layered structure was done numerically. Existing transmission terahertz spectroscopy experiment was expanded by an arrangement that allows us to excite the surface plasmon on the metallic layer and allows us to measure its characteristics after the transmission of samples, that are in contact with this layer. Obtained theoretical and experimental data were then evaluated, so we could conclude to which extent can the surface plasmon be used for spectroscopic purposes in terahertz range. We concluded, that we were able to describe surface plasmons in layered structures including anisotropic...

Two main strategies are involved: functionalization through the deposition of functional nanocomposite coatings and low-pressure plasma etching. In the first case, a gas-phase step-by-step deposition process based on the combination of deposition of nanoparticles and thin films was developed to obtain super-wettable nanocomposite coatings on filtration membranes. It was shown that the deposition parameters of thin films and particles of plasma polymer can tune the wetting characteristic of the membranes whereas embedding copper nanoparticles endows them with antibacterial properties. As a result, highly efficient superhydrophobic/superoleophilic and smart superamphiphilic membranes were successfully fabricated for oil/water separation. Plasma processing in the atmosphere of argon, oxygen or nitrogen was utilized to modify hard metal/polymer nanocomposites (Ag/a-C:H) with potential to be used as functional coatings for bone implants. Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals mainly with utilization of plasma in technological aplications. The introductory part is apllied to the theoretical description of plasma generated by the surfatron. This launcher works with the frequency of 2,45 GHz and it is able to excite the surface wave, that sustains plasma column in a quartz tube. Plasma generated by surfatron was used for modification of surface properties of polyethylen to change its surface energy. By changing of surface energy it was reached of higher hydrophilicity. Plasma generated by surfatron was diagnosed in detail during experiments in a continual regime as well as in a pulse one with a help of a single {--} probe and a double {--} probe Langmuir measurement. In this diploma thesis there is discussed influence of pressure, power and other experimental options.
