Full textThis paper deals stating from Foucautian theoretical assumptions with the power relations and political tecnologies at work in the Escola Municipal Professora Yone Nogueira, located in Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, particularly on the disciplinar power and its mechanisms on time, space and body control. Such school has become study object, not only because it is where I have studied and work as History Teacher, but also because its sui generis achitecture, heritage of panoptical model, built to be a realization of the perfect control utopia. Within this achitecture of circular power, where all bodies have their reserved spaces as a form to keep them under permanent control , many teachers, students and administrative workers end by losing their work perspectives and objectiveness or even presenting feelings of discomfort at work. Besides, disciplinatory agents are permanently acting, and, by hierachical vigilance, the exam and normalizing sanction, bodies are developed at maximum productive potential, while rebellion potentials are reduced. The school manufactures subjects through intense and permanent subjection processes. Michel de Certeau is of great value to comprehend many subtle forms, which are daily invented by the school community members who are not mere passive consumers, but transform that space with their daily praxis, inventing new relations, intensificating life. On the attempt to realize experiences of freedom which turn life into art, and to reinforce horizontalized friendship bonds, some school usuaries turn out to develop an aesthetics of existance, result of a collective and not-hierarchical work upon each other. Even within disciplinary institutions planned to be perfect in working it is possible to create temporary autonomous zones, true heteropias, where real experiences of freedom can be lived. This work reports all that reality and points out the experimental and libertary theatre as an widening display of gaps in disciplinary power, and potentializer of singular subjectivation processes.

Full textFrom Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze ideas, this research analyzes the electronic individuals monitoring. People sentenced precisely under the law of criminal procedure. The electronic surveillance suggests a natural philosophical interest that revolves around the analysis of issues relating to power, prison, law, the society of discipline and control. Foucault critical texts about power are the guiding track of this research, in order that it allows investigating the procedures related to electronic surveillance that focus on the conduct of individuals sentenced by the State. The analysis of this subject relates to the modern prison management activity, whose way of criminal sanction counts on a significant transformation: the enforcement of criminal punishment can be effective even in distance, that is, outside the prison environment. From this philosophical pathway we recognize that the electronic surveillance is a form of exercise of disciplinary power, where the effects of their relationship fall onto the body of each condemned and extends beyond the prison population. The existence of a society of control suggests that disciplinary mechanisms are expanded in order that we can find an unfinished constitution of the new society, this new social overview that values the progress of technology

Attempts to explain child labor, for the most part, have been reduced to the economic aspect, looking to establish a causal relationship between work and poverty. Without disregarding this aspect, we intend to approach this phenomenon considering other aspects that could be contributing towards its maintenance. We seek, above all, to articulate it with the concepts of disciplinary power and ideology. The present study, therefore, tries to consider these aspects with the intention of learning the reasons that the mothers and the teachers produce concerning child labor in the cultivation of vegetables. We elected these participants because we considered that child labor has been reinforced by the disciplinary institutions and proponents of ideology, the family and the school, here represented, respectively, by the mothers and the teachers. To affect this study, we created focused groups with the mothers whose children are students and work in the cultivation of vegetables in Gramorezinho (neighborhood situated in the northern part of Natal, RN) and with the teachers of the neighborhood school (Escola Lourdes Goudeiro). The discussion of the participants was handled according to the perspective of discursive practices, attempting to articulate them with the notions of ideology and disciplinary power. In general, we perceived how much ideology and discipline are immersed in the discursive practices of the participants. Whereas, even though in some moments the reference to work as being something that takes time from the child to study and play is apparent, the participants attribute great importance to child labor. Both for the teachers and for the mothers, work is something that can free the children from laziness, from becoming criminals and from using drugs. It too constitutes an important alternative to idleness and to the permanence of the child in the streets

The present work is based on bibliographical research that has as its main theoretical referential the research made by French philosopher Michel Foucault. In such context, it attempts to aprehend the contributions made by the book Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison (2013), as well as other studies concerning the disciplinary society, aiming to understand the discourses and practices used in contemporary educational institutions. To that end, it has been divided in three chapters. The first chapter attempts to establish a correlation between the nature of this philosopher's archeological and genealogical research with the topic of investigation, outlining the epistemological basis upon which Foucault grounds his studies from a historical point of view, a remarkably important fact in his work. In addition, this introductory chapter aims to explore the process of truth-searching, starting from the story of Oedipus, exposing the history of juridical thought and, consequently, the investigative and punitive forms of those who did not follow the rules under greek law, concluding with a few considerations regarding inquiry. The second chapter focuses on developing reflections regarding a part of Foucault's body of work focusing on the disciplinary society, under the assumption that there is no possibility of a society without punishment and control. Going through the changes on body treatment, from the torture of Damiens until the adoption of imprisonment as an universal punishment regime, follows that the customs of vigilance and control (panopticism) are present in all institutions and are not new, but rather preexisting at least from the Classical Age, not straying too far from education discourse. The last chapter presents the book Emile, or on Education (Rousseau, 2017) as a testimony on the disciplinary society, demonstrating that the ideal of “freedom” as exposed on this publication is paradoxical. Finally, in the conclusion it is deduced that in education discourses are ingrained elements of the Classical Age, not having these constructs therefore any novelty, for in modern education exist discourses and knowledge that work together to transform individuals into useful and docile subjects to the productive systems.

Full textO objetivo desta dissertação é analisar a ficção da escritora Chicana contemporânea Helena María Viramontes, focalizando principalmente seu romance Their Dogs Came With Them, e secundariamente seus contos Neighbors e The Cariboo Café.
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the fiction of contemporary Chicana writer Helena María Viramontes, focusing primarily on her novel Their Dogs Came With Them, and secondarily on her short stories Neighbors and The Cariboo Café. This work concentrates on the relations between space and power in the contemporary United States and how these relations are reflected in Viramontess fiction, in view of Americas Puritan heritage and Michel Foucaults discussion of the disciplinary society. It also concentrates on Viramontess use of multiple focalization as a means to achieve a sense of fragmentation which reflects the fragmentation in the lives of her characters. It compares her use of focalization to the language used in films such as Amores Perros

Full textThis objective study to reflect on institutional functioning of the semi-liberty, its limits and its possibilities, as from the problematization of the data of this case in a study involving the national data and the analysis of the current socio-educational proposal. Semi-liberty is a juridical term used to appoint a modality of socio-educational measure of adolescent responsibility for their infractions, according to the brazilian Statute of Children and Adolescents (ECA Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente) from 1990. This measure, according to the current legislation, consists in adolescent permanence in a house during a period from 6 months to 3 years, under the supervision and monitoring of a professional team with compulsory schooling and professionalization. One of the questions in this process is the relation between the functioning of the measure from its institutional (structure and organization) and intersectoral (organization and articulation with other public policies) strategies and the results of those actions in the life of these adolescents. Therefore, it was proposed to investigate the performance of institutional and intersectoral processes adopted by the semi-liberty socio-educational measurement developed in Foz do Iguassu, in the state of Paraná, focusing on institutional arrangements, behaviors, objectives of political actors, in the action tools and the institutional and intersectoral policy strategies. Starting from a qualitative, exploratory study, it was sought to perform pertinent questionings to the disciplinary power and to the society of control, respectively problematized by Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze. The theoretical discussion was coordinated with the experiences testified by the researcher and those reported by professionals of the House of Semi-liberty of Foz do Iguassu, in Paraná, added to the analysis of documents containing information about the socio-educational process of the attended adolescents and its consequences. The analysis of these experiences aimed to understand the existence of the object, its functioning correlated with the historical movement, a view not merely textual, but relational, discursive, in order to preserve the social unity and establish relations among the content - which appears -, the rules and the delimitations. The experiences and the objective data found on the functioning of semi-liberty indicate the transition movement of strategies interconnected to the control, disciplinary society according Foucault (2012f) and Deleuze (2010). The research focuses on the institutional and intersectoral strategies that combine the new to the old public policy model in the area of childhood and adolescence, interconnecting practices and political conceptions of the Children's Code to the Statute of Children and Adolescents . Practices in favor of the subject of universal law , that does not leave the idea of a dangerous subject on the job with the adolescent who commits an infraction. And, in this context, becomes a laboratory building new power relations, controlling and watching these adolescents to the model of life proposed by the democratic, participatory and inclusive society.
