<p>Sub sea compression for maintaining reservoir pressure in a gas field is important to have a steady production of gas as it is extracted from the field. Electrical drives in the several megawatt range are suitable to control the compressor motor since it is not desirable to have gears which need maintenance. Problems related to the location on the sea bed have so far been overcome by using massive pressure tanks which hold 1 atmosphere. A new approach would be to allow the pressure on the sea bed to be applied on the electrical components. This will reduce and simplify the system only needi

Transient stability of electric energy grids is defined as the ability of the power system to remain in synchronism during large disturbances. If the grid is not equipped with controllers capable of transiently stabilizing system dynamics, large disturbances could cause protection to trigger disconnecting the equipment and leading further to cascading system-wide blackouts. Today’s practice of tuning controllers generally does not guarantee a transiently stable response because it does not use a model for representing system-wide dynamic interactions. A trustworthy operation of power electronics systems in critical applications like electric vehicles, aircrafts, satellites, and so on, has pushed engineers to develop fault-tolerant solutions. Indeed, in such applications it is necessary for the system to continue its operation, possibly with downgraded performance, even under faulty case. Abstract:
This thesis presents an investigation of on-line supply impedance measurement. Network impedance values are invaluable for power system modelling and simulation. Without knowledge of a network structure and the impedances that make up that structure it is impossible to simulate or predict harmonic propagation within a plant. If the impedance structure for a plant is known then it may be possible to alleviate voltage distortion problems by simply redistributing sensitive loads to points of low harmonic distortion. Alternatively distorting loads may be repositioned thus removing the need for add

Abstract:
The dissertation addresses several problems in the power optimization and power-delay tradeoffs in digital CMOS circuits. The work is organized according to the three main sources of power dissipation: Power dissipation due to switching (P(sc)), standby or leakage power (P(leak)) and short circuit power (P(sc)). First we present new, efficient and provably correct algorithms for minimizing the switching power in combinational and sequential CMOS logic circuits. The techniques are based on the addition and removal of redundancies at the logic level. The basic technique developed for combination
