Abstract:
Partial discharges are the major cause of deterioration in the insulation characteristics of switchgears. Therefore, timely detection of partial discharge in switchgear and potential insulation faults is an urgent problem that needs to be addressed in the power supervision industry. In this study, a device was proposed for online monitoring of high-voltage switchgears based on pulse current method and ozone (O3) detection. The pulse current method obtains the PD signal by monitoring the phase holes on the switch indicator. Occurrence of a partial discharge in a certain phase leads to the production of a discharge pulse, which can be coupled out by a capacitive sensor. The current spectrum and the O3 produced by partial discharge were processed via fast Fourier transform for accurate diagnosis of the occurrence of partial discharge and its severity in switchgears. The proposed method allows for convenient acquisition of the partial discharge signal, simple installation of the device, and realization with inexpensive sensors.

Abstract:
Electric supply system in enterprises must provide with electrical supply continuity and reliability as in normal and accidental regimes, quality electro energetic, production efficiency, so in connection with these in the article there have been analyzed work regimes of substations, studied electrical net scheme for Kentau Transformer Plant’s substation, calculated plant’s loads and short circuit currents and on the base of the calculated results curried out inspection for the chosen equipment. The number of connections, reliability of power supply and prospects for development are the determining factors for choosing the electrical scheme of high-voltage switchgears. You also need to take into account the need to conduct audits and tests of switches without interruption. In our case, we have four connections: two communication lines with electrical systems and two transformers. The distribution devices of the substation of the Kentau transformer plant are connected to the transformers according to a block scheme. Electrical installations are connected to the network transformer unit or receive backup power from another substation, since in case of failure of one network, both transformers can not work with the rest of the network. Based on this, measures are proposed for the reconstruction of the substation, with the replacement of the block diagram of the switchgear with the circuit for connecting the power transformer to the switchgear by a bus bridge. Offered measurements on reconstruction of the substation by replacing block scheme of switchgears to scheme of power transformer connection with DD bus bridge. Worked out main modernization problems of the substation switchgear, done calculation and selection of distributing bus bars for arranging switchgear.

Abstract:
With the rapid development of the offshore wind power, the design of the collection system for offshore wind farms attracts widespread attentions. In this paper, on the basis of analyzing the connection property and switchgear configurations of collection systems of offshore wind farms, a comprehensive reliability assessment model and the corresponding calculation method for the traditional switchgear configuration and the complete switchgear configuration are proposed. Taking an actual planned offshore wind farm for example, the reliability of two switchgear configurations are evaluated, and the sensitivity analyses on factors affecting the reliability of the wind farms such as the failure rate and MTTR of the cables and switchgears are performed. The result shows that the complete switchgear configuration is the better choice for offshore wind farms considering reliability indexes.

Abstract:
Power grid dispatching is a high-risk process, and its execution depends on an available cyber system. However, the effects of cyber systems have not caught enough attention in current research on risk assessments in dispatching processes, which may cause optimistic risk results. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a risk assessment model that considers the impact of a cyber system on power grid dispatching processes. Firstly, a cyber-physical switchgear state model that integrates the reliability states of both cyber system functions and switchgears is proposed, based on the transition of switchgear states in the dispatching process. Then, the potential effects of each operating step on power grid states are analyzed considering the failure model of cyber-physical system (CPS) components. The risk probabilities and consequences of the power grid states are calculated to quantify the risk index. Finally, the workings and effectiveness of this model are illustrated using the IEEE Reliability Test System-1979.

Abstract:
Fault-influencing factors analysis is an important part of the quality supervision process. There are double functions for high-voltage switchgears that switch off and protect electric circuits in power transmission lines. Such devices have serious impact on power grid–operating efficiency, factory operation, and resident life, which will cause economic losses. As it was difficult for traditional methods to analyze fault-influencing factors accurately and comprehensively, a novel method based on industrial big data was proposed to analyze high-voltage switchgears fault-influencing factors in the process of quality supervision in this article, which integrated the qualitative and quantitative analyses method. In this model, the Classification Based on Multiple Class-Association Rules based on Gaussian Mixture Model as the qualitative analysis method was adapted to analyze the whole life cycle of fault-influencing factors of high-voltage switchgears comprehensively, and supplied fault-influencing factors with discrete interval value ranges. The logistic regression method based on qualitative analysis was constructed to calculate fault occurrence probability quantitatively, including the single-fault occurrence probability and the multiple-faults joint occurrence probability. In addition, the single-fault occurrence probability was used to modify the discrete interval value ranges calculated by the qualitative analysis method, which could make the ranges more accurately. Consequently, the proposed method could provide important reference for high-voltage switchgears operation maintenance, and it would be possible to design accurate maintenance plans before equipment failure. The final instance demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Abstract:
In power system networks, automatic fault diagnosis techniques of switchgears with high accuracy and less time consuming are important. In this work, classification of abnormal location in switchgears is proposed using hybrid gravitational search algorithm (GSA)-artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. The measurement data were obtained from ultrasound, transient earth voltage, temperature and sound sensors. The AI classifiers used include artificial neural network (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM). The performance of both classifiers was optimized by an optimization technique, GSA. The advantages of GSA classification on AI in classifying the abnormal location in switchgears are easy implementation, fast convergence and low computational cost. For performance comparison, several well-known metaheuristic techniques were also applied on the AI classifiers. From the comparison between ANN and SVM without optimization by GSA, SVM yields 2% higher accuracy than ANN. However, ANN yields slightly higher accuracy than SVM after combining with GSA, which is in the range of 97%-99% compared to 95%-97% for SVM. On the other hand, GSA-SVM converges faster than GSA-ANN. Overall, it was found that combination of both AI classifiers with GSA yields better results than several well-known metaheuristic techniques.

Abstract:
This work presents a novel diagnostic method to localize Partial Discharges (PDs) inside Medium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) equipment. The method is well suited for that equipment presenting a bounded domain with fixed Boundary Conditions (BCs) such as Oil-Filled Power Transformers (OFPTs), Air Insulated Switchgears (AISs), Gas Insulated Switchgears (GISs) or Gas Insulated Transmission Lines (GILs). It is based on Electromagnetic (EM) measurements which are used to reconstruct the EM field produced by the PD and localize the PD itself. The reconstruction and localization tasks are based on the eigenfunctions series expansion method which intrinsically accounts for the physical information of the propagation phenomenon. This fact makes the proposed diagnostic method very robust and accurate even in real and complex scenarios. The promising experimental results, obtained in two different test cases, confirmed the ability and powerfulness of the proposed PD localization method.

Abstract:
<p>In the chart of Indian science based industry, pharmaceutical industry is on top position. So it<em> </em>is essential to fulfil such critical requirement or demand, production should be with high speed. For such high production, using of software based machineries, electronic circuits are been used. By using such electronic based equipment’s and machineries, it is obvious day by day increasing non-linear load of the industry which lead to lagging power factor. In electric system nonlinear load with low power factor draws more current from source. So because of such high current drawn, life of switchgear, wire and other electrical equipment decreases. So due to large equipment and wasted energy, the electrical utilities company usually charge a higher cost to industrial customer for the constant logging power factor. To improving the lagging power factor, industry may prefer to install capacitor bank in series. But installation of capacitor power bank leads to the increment of total harmonics distortion level. In common plant, containing power factor correction capacitor, It is been seen that normal resonant frequency falls normally in the range of 5th to 13th harmonics. So this non-linear load leads to inject current at 5th, 7th, 11th and 13th harmonics. It will usually result on producing the problems with switchgears, damaged capacitor banks and failure to the electrical distribution system.</p>

Abstract:
This research investigates the distortion on the electrical distribution system for a high voltage DC Integrated Power System (IPS). The analysis was concentrated on the power supplied to a propulsion motor driven by an inverter with simulated silicon carbide switches. Theoretically, silicon carbide switches have the advantage of being able to withstand a very large blocking voltage and carry very large forward currents. Silicon carbide switches are also very efficient due to their quick rise and fall times. Since silicon carbide switches can withstand high voltage differentials and switch faster than silicon switches, the switching effects on the electrical distribution system were investigated. The current state of silicon carbide power electronics was also investigated. This research quantifies the current and voltage distortion over various operating conditions. A system model was developed using Matlab, Simulink, and SimPowerSystems. The model consisted of a synchronous generator supplying a rectifier and inverter set driving an induction motor. This induction motor simulates the propulsion motor for a Navy ship. This model had a DC link voltage of 10 kV in order to simulate future Navy IPS systems. The current and voltage distortion were compared to MIL STD 1399 and IEEE STD 519 and 45.<br>Contract Number: N62271-97-G-0026

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the possibilities to standardize and modularize the low-voltageswitchgear in ABB’s HVDC-stations. The reason for this is that the customized solutionthey use today take too much engineering and production time to meet the expectedincrease of projects. The report is based on thirteen stations in eight different closed or ongoing projects. Theselection was based on the station size, geographical location, commissioning year andstation type.In order to obtain a correct representation of the loads in the low-voltage switchgear, therelevant station documentation was reviewed and compiled in a database. The data wasthen analyzed to determine the most frequently occurring loads and their characteristics. The thesis shows that it’s possible to standardize some components in the low-voltageswitchgear. However, this report doesn’t take into consideration any possible increase oftotal size and cost. It also shows the most frequent sizes of the circuit breakers for each ofthe common loads. The standard proposition for the common loads was developed to cover all the occurringsizes of the circuit breakers in the stations. For the converter transformers coolingequipment there’s two different cubicles to choose from, while the remaining loads islimited to a single alternative. An alternative solution could be to develop a standard for each occurring station type. However, this would require that the data from a larger number of projects, for all stationtypes, are reviewed and compiled.</p>

Abstract:
On March 18, 2001, a PWR nuclear power plant located in the Southern Taiwan occurred a Station BlackOut (SBO) event. Monsoon seawater mist caused the instability of offsite power grids. High salt-contained mist caused offsite power supply to the nuclear power plant very unstable, and forced the plant to be shutdown. Around 24 hours later, when both units in the plant were shutdown, several inadequate high cycles of bus transfer between 345 kV and 161 kV startup transformers degraded the emergency 4.16 kV switchgears. Then, in the Train-A switchgear room of Unit 1 occurred a fire explosion, when the degraded switchgear was hot shorted at the in-coming 345 kV breaker. Inadequate configuration arrangement of the offsite power supply to the emergency 4.16 kV switchgears led to loss of offsite power (LOOP) events to both units in the plant. Both emergency diesel generators (EDG) of Unit 1 could not be in service in time, but those of Unit 2 were running well. The SBO event of Unit 1 lasted for about two hours till the fifth EDG (DG-5) was lined-up to the Train-B switchgear. This study investigated the scenario of the SBO event and evaluated a risk profile for the SBO period. Guidelines in the SBO event, suggested by probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) procedures were also reviewed. Many related topics such as the re-configuration of offsite power supply, the addition of isolation breakers of the emergency 4.16 kV switchgears, the betterment of DG-5 lineup design, and enhancement of the reliability of offsite power supply to the PWR plant, etc., will be in further studies.

Abstract:
High Energy Arcing Faults (HEAF) have the potential to cause extensive damage to the failed electrical components and distribution systems along with adjacent equipment and cables within the zone of influence (ZOI). Furthermore, the significant energy released during HEAF event can act as an ignition source to other components within the area of the HEAF. In Japan, during the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in 2011, the seismic induced HEAF fire event, which induced the whole damage of the multiple high voltage switchgears, was observed in Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). In response, in August 2017, the NRA (Nuclear Regular Authority) in Japan amended the safety requirement for the power supply to consider the influence of the successive fire due to the HEAF event (hereinafter HEAF fire event). Therefore, it is urgently necessary to establish the design criteria to prevent the HEAF fire event, and enhance the experiment data of the HEAF fire event. In order to estimate the total arc energy during the HEAF event and obtain the threshold value to prevent the HEAF fire for the existed non-arc proof electrical cabinets, several series of three-phase internal arc tests with high (6.9kV class) and low (480V class) voltage electrical cabinets were executed. We executed internal arc tests with full scale high/low voltage metal-enclosed switchgear components (non-arc proof type, copper bus conductor), and evaluated arc energy, the mechanical damage of the cabinet and the surrounding equipment due to the impulsive pressure and the possibility of successive fire occurrence. In case of high voltage switchgear, when the arcing energy exceeded 25.3MJ, successive fire was identified. Especially, in the case where the arc flash was discharged in the circuit breaker room, a 2-second arcing duration in a three-phase short-circuit current with 18.9kA (measured arcing energy over 40MJ) caused successive fire which required extinguishment. On the other hand, in case of low voltage power center, when the arcing energy exceeded 19MJ, successive fire was identified. According to these demonstrative tests, this paper presents the evaluation method to estimate total arc discharge energy during the HEAF event for high and low voltage electrical cabinets.
