This work presents the study of some cost allocation methodologies in a competitive framework and proposes algorithms to reactive cost allocation among transmission consumers. Among the studied methodologies, e.g. Nucleolus, Decomposition Principle and Shapley Value, the Aumann-Shapley methodology will be shown to be the most adequate in sharing the cost of reactive support, due to its basis in marginal cost compatible with and economic competitive framework. Optimization techniques are very important to Aumann- Shapley methodology application, because the supplied Lagrange multipliers are extremely important to the evaluation of reactive power marginal cost, carried out in Aumann-Shapley cost allocation. Besides that, an interior point algorithm will be presented, which is used to obtain Lagrange multipliers and to determine the reactive support total cost. Afterwards, two algorithms will be presented to reactive power support cost allocation, one to be applied in a deterministic case and the other to a stochastic case, where contingencies in a electric network are taken into account. The proposed method is illustrated in studies with two electric test systems: one composed by 24 buses and other by 1653 buses.

Abstract: This dissertation describes four transmission cost allocation methodologies: Pro rata (PR), Proportional sharing (PS), Zbus-average (Zbus_AVG) and Nodal. While the first one disregards the locational aspect and allocates costs based only on the amount of power delivered by generators and consumed by loads, the last three ones take this aspect into account, i.e. charges are dependent on where generators and demands are connected in the network. Several computer simulations were made in order to assess the influence of the locational aspect into transmission pricing scheme and the results were used for a critical analysis, including political, regulatory, economic and social aspects. Finally, we discuss the possibility of using the fees paid by transmission system agents as an additional criterion for the Transmission Expansion Planning problem

Full textOver the past few years the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has been facing regional power shortages. These regional power shortages currently being experienced within the SADC region have been partly due to a lack of generation capacity and transmission capacity constraints. This situation has been further aggravated by the unanticipated economic growth within the SADC region. In order for the SADC region to meet its electricity demand, the region needs to invest in new generation and transmission projects. However, due to the inability of regional utilities to raise funds to finance these projects, the projects tend to not reach financial close resulting in the increase of the regional power deficits. Although these regional power shortages have been attributed to the lack of adequate investment in power generation projects and power transmission interconnector projects, this research report was limited to the development and financing of power transmission interconnector projects. The objective of this research report was to identify the dynamics that prohibit regional power transmission interconnectors from reaching financial close and to recommend possible solutions on how best to develop and package these projects. The research used the proposed developmental approach of the ZIZABONA transmission interconnector project as a case study to develop a generic model that could be utilised on other regional transmission interconnector projects. Based on the research presented in this research report, the study has highlighted project finance as a viable funding strategy. Regional utilities can utilise this funding strategy to package and finance joint transmission regional interconnectors to alleviate the current regional power shortages by facilitating regional electricity trade.

Abstract The power energy of bio-implantable microsystems can be provided from (1) conventional wire cord, (2) battery, and (3) an external power transmission system. Unacceptable problems of cosmesis, maintenance, and infection hinder the wire cord development. Life-span issues of battery technologies limit its applications in bio-implantable Microsystems. The advantages of the external power transmission system include continuous availability of power to an implanted unit, and ability to control the implanted unit with the external device using the same radio frequency (RF) link. However, the wireless power transmission systems use RF techniques which the carried power can be attenuated by tissues. Thus, a common question is raised that for a given communication bandwidth how far away the microimplant can be positioned underneath bio tissues so that the microimplant can properly function as it is designed for. In this research course, we developed a wireless RF power transmission/receiving system to investigate the issue stated above. A major component in the system, a class E power amplifier, is introduced. Four RF resonant frequencies to transmit power in a fashion of electromagnetic wave (EM) were implemented. Protocols of studying power transmission in air and in pork were designed. Instead of human body, this study used pork as bio tissues for the experiments. Our study results prove that for the coil based power coupling technique transmission efficiency of low frequency EM is less than that of high frequency EM. However, the decreasing speed against distance (or thickness of medium) is slow for low frequency EM comparing with high frequencies. In other words, low frequency EM waves have better penetration capability. In addition, the study results demonstrate that for all used frequencies high dielectric constant (ε) media such as pork lion attenuate power most. The power attenuation rate of high ε, on the other hand, is slower when the thickness increases comparing with low ε. Most importantly a mathematical model (i.e. assessment model) that can be used to assess power received beneath bio tissues was developed. By using this model, when a microimplant to be placed within bio tissues, its position, in terms of thickness of the bio tissues, and the power received can be easily obtained.

Abstract Though the provisions of Copyright Law have provided the teacher in fair use with the internet to obtain or transmit the digital materials or the contents of a work, there were still many cases of internet teaching involved copyright infringement. The court’s judgement on copyright law almost focus on the fair use of “right of reproduction", the "right of public transmission” was less addressed. At present, the education policy of various countries is more concerned the school how to achieve more intelligent and creative effectiveness of teaching. The developed countries focus their attention on the cloud computing for teaching and learning. Use of the internet in teaching and learning will be education trends in perspective. The cloud computing is still a developing technology and conception, but it has become more widely used in real life. Today the data can be transmitted by internet directly without through the process of reproduction, and the connection of cloud computing for teaching and public transmission is more linkage. On account of the relative interpretation of copyright laws by the Intellectual Property Office had an inclination to protect the right of copyright owners, the teacher therefore use Internet or cloud computing teaching activities or materials transmission are often worried about copyright infringement, the topic is worth paying more attention to. This study from the perspective on public transmission’s right included exploring the suitable for use in copyright law that concerning the fair use of internet or cloud computing teaching. The design and implementation of contactless power transmission for linear track system are presented in this paper. Based on the character of inductive power transmission without the need for power wire or metal contact of the conventional device, the design is mainly aimed at the track of specific demand to construct the inductive power transmission system. It also can acquire the sustained energy and signal transmission for the mobile apparatuses. In the system, the single-stage full-bridge is utilized to inverter with the property of ZVS, driving selectively the inductive winding of linear track consisted of five components. The energy transmission structure is chosen to verify the feasibility of coupling structure of coaxial winding. Besides, PIC16F876A is adopted to run the selective arousing system for the section winding and control the frequency conversion. As a result, it is disclosed that the system can provide the energy for the moving load with the comparative location which is commanded by the controlling signal from primary frame.

This thesis investigates the novel inductive coupler of contactless inductive power transmission track for moving vehicle. And the proposed coupler is a weaving-type. Because there is no wire connection for power supply, the motion of the vehicle is unrestricted. At first the different coupling structures are simulated and analyzed. Then the weaving-type inductive structure is used to build a contactless power transmission track. In order to improve the transmission efficiency, the appropriate resonant circuit is chosen and selective excitation is adopted. The primary side circuit utilizes microcontroller to achieve section excitation for employing track effectively as well as control the frequency of the system to reduce the power loss. In addition, in order to induce the sufficient power for the motor and Li-Polymer battery, the pick up is excited selectively according to the position on the track. Finally, by simulation and experiment, the contactless inductive power transmission track system is accomplished.

A Study on Data Transmission by Power Line Student:Chyi-Taur Lin Advisors:Dr. Wei-Chih Hsu Department of Computer and Communication Engineering National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology 英文摘要 ABSTRACT This paper presents a characteristical measurement of power line to probe the possibility as a kind of communicational medium. The electric potential attenuation of power line against frequency has been measured by means of signal generator, frequency counter, and ocsilloscope. We wrote a program to measure the byte-loss rates of the server-to-client data transmission on the power lines with different lengths. Besides,we also investigated the influences of no-fuse breaker and the power with different phases on data transmission. In application, we constructed a PC-based power line communicator to control a programmable message sign. The alphanumerical characters were sent from the computer to the message sign for display. We also programmed a timing corrector to actively or passively transmit the date and the time of the server computer to the client computer for alignment. The experiments show that power line is capable of data transmission. The experimental results reveal that the electrical attenuation of power line varies with frequency. The transmission distance and the numbers of connected appliances also affect the loss rate of data transmission.

Recently, the trend of deregulation has been world-widely adopted. Under this trend, many countries including Taiwan have deregulated their electrical industry. This circumstance makes the appearance of the Independent Power Producers (IPP). In the perspective frame of deregulation in Taiwan, IPP can adopt the way of wholesale, wheeling or self-built lines to supply electricity. The former two ways will utilize the transmission networks of other utilities. Therefore, it is an important issue to fairly allocate the transmission loss to each IPP for pricing purpose. In this thesis, it is assumed that IPP is liable for the corresponding transmission loss resulted from its own generation. Based on the system information collected from state estimation program or other means, the fictitious transactions can be established by using a proportional allocation algorithm. These transactions are then transformed into bus injection currents in order to obtain the corresponding transmission losses. The method is tested on 6-bus and 26-bus systems. The simulation results show that the distribution of power and the allocation of losses are physically reasonable. The effect of various selection of swing bus is avoided by the current injection concept. In addition, the converge rate of the algorithm is also a strong point. All these advantages make the proposed method a valuable approach for further study.

Due to global warming, rising oil prices and other factors, electric vehicle is becoming a high-profiled R&D projects in automobile industry recent years. However, one of the key factors to popularize EV in public use is the completion of the infrastructure of EV. The most common charging facilities of EV adopt physical connection, recently, the concept of replacing physical connecting charging by non-contact charging has been proposed. If the development of NPT(non-contact power transmission) applied on EV infrastructure goes on, the future vision of EV on the basic of NPT may be very different from the ideas today. In this study, we focused on the infrastructure of EV, NPT technology and its applications in the fields of EV infrastructure by surveying literatures and data to develop possible issues may confront in the process. According to the issues, we will ask some specialist for their opinions to depict the forward-vision of NPT applied on EV development.

Agricultural machinery is a very important support in the development of modern agriculture. Agricultural tractor as the main power source of agricultural machinery, its performance directly affects the whole development of agricultural mechanization. The tractor power output shaft (Power Take-off, "P.T.O.") test is the important performance testing items for determination of the economic, dynamic and index stability of tractor. This study analyzed the data of P.T.O. horsepower test and discussed the effects of rotation speed on torque and working temperature of the engine by statistical analysis of regression. The test results and the characteristic curve of a standard tractor were tested with the P.T.O.-HP test platform (FROMENT XT200) for the tractor, and the result was verified that the P.T.O. Test Bench could achieve the default performance test items and the related parts of the control system could also be well operated. The test platform, with easy operation and high control precision, can shorten the test cycle and increase the work efficiency. The further promotion and upgrade of the test platform have a solid foundation. This test platform is able to not only evaluate and analyze the performance of power output shaft of tractor, but also determine the effects of various external factors on the tractor. This P.T.O. HP test platform would play a very important role in the tractor performance test, as well as handling the customer’s dispute regarding horsepower.

Abstract With the high energy and intensive electric field of EMP burst, it can spread out broadly and propaganda to far distance, even tens miles away through the power transmission lines. Thus, the protection of power transmission lines for the EMP impact will become an most important task in the EMP research field. No doubt, this is also the main purpose of this thesis. The fundamentals of electromagnetic field are firstly discussed in this thesis. Later, the effect of EMP coupling to transmission lines is described and the model of transmission line is also introduced and derived. Finally, the 345KV transmission line of Taiwan Power Company is simulated by the transmission line model derived in this thesis. The simulation results show that the EMP transmission line model can be aided to analyze and design the protection of EMP impact. Moreover, the completion of this thesis can bring more strength for electric power system in Taiwan, and more benefits for those manufactures of high energy switches. Keywords:EMP, Transmission Lines

The interest in the utilization of offshore wind power is increasing significantly. Due to the shortage of in-land locations for wind farm and the wind speed offshore is potentially higher than that of onshore, which leads to a much higher power production. In this thesis a large offshore wind farm is modeled using Matlab simulation package. In the simulations active stall regulated wind turbines driving fixed speed asynchronous generators are used. Two different types of interconnections are modeled and compared, one is the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) based HVDC link and the other one uses high voltage AC (HVAC) cable interconnection. Transmission faults are simulated in each system and the transient response are examined. Three phase fault and single line to ground fault are used to compare the performance of the VSC based HVDC interconnection system and HVAC interconnection. It is found that compared to the traditional HVAC transmission, the VSC based HVDC transmission would have better performance under various system disturbances.

This thesis is to study the power-hybridized transmission mechanism of the hybrid power motorcycle. The subject is on the transmission efficiency of the five-member and six-member planetary gear train with two degrees of freedom. Then we find the best mechanism for the power-hybridized transmission mechanism. Allocate engine, motor and generator for every possible kind of allocation. At last, use the computer to simulate the power-hybridized transmission mechanisms together with the performances of engine, motor and generator, and the CVT''s theoretical model to get the dynamic characteristics of the hybrid power motorcycle. In the part of all possible allocations, we use the moment equilibrium relation, and the relation of the conservation of energy to allocate engine, motor, generator and driving axis for different kinds of allocations together with analyzing, and then obtain one kind of allocations which can be used as the power-hybridized transmission mechanism. In the part of simulating the hybrid power motorcycle, use the mathematical model of the power-hybridized transmission mechanism which we choose, together with the relationships between the torque and rotational speed of the engine, motor and generator, respectively. And then write down the computer program for simulation to get the dynamic characteristics of the hybrid power motorcycle.

The study of this thesis is to design different power combiners for power amplifier application, which can be used to achieve the high transmission efficiency and impedance transformation. The content of this thesis is divided into two parts. They are transformer and transmission line transformer (TLT) for power combining respectively. In the first part, we have designed two power amplifiers with power combining transformers. They are “A Parallel Power Combining Transformer for CMOS Power Amplifier” and “Differential Class E Power Amplifier Using Power Combining Transformer” respectively. The amplifiers were designed and implemented in tsmcTM 0.18 μm CMOS process for 2.4 GHz application. The first design is used of two class AB differential pairs, which were combined the output power from four groups of amplifiers by parallel power combining transformer. And the second design is used a class E differential pair, which were combined the output power from the two class E amplifiers by the power combining transformer. The second part of the thesis is related to the use of TLT for power combining in power amplifier design. A K-band class AB differential power amplifier with TLT was implemented in WINTM 0.15 μm pHEMT process. The measured results of these designs are summarized as follow. The CMOS power amplifier with parallel power combining transformer achieves a power gain of 19.8 dB, and input and output return losses are 10.2 dB and 5.3 dB respectively. The output 1-dB gain compression point (P1dB) is 20.9 dBm, and the saturated output III power is 26.7 dBm with the maximum power added efficiency of 24.8%. The chip size is 1.4 × 1.37 mm2. The differential class E power amplifier with power combining transformer achieves apower gain of 12.98 dB. The output 1-dB gain compression point (P1dB) is 23.3 dBm, and the saturated output power is 25.9 dBm, with the maximum power added efficiency of 29.9%. The chip size is 1.33 × 1.11 mm2. The K-band Power Amplifier with TLT power combining network achieves a power gain of 10.2 dB, and input and output return losses are 18.7 dB and 11.48 dB respectively. The output 1-dB gain compression point (P1dB) is 22 dBm with the power added efficiency of 23.4%. The chip size is 1.5 × 1 mm2.
