Abstract:
The objective of this paper was to characterize expression patterns of biologic markers to distinguish papillary serous peritoneal carcinoma (PPC) from papillary serous ovarian carcinoma (POC). Immunohistochemical analysis of HER-2/neu, p53, bcl-2, and nm23-H1 expression was performed on archival paraffin-embedded tissues. Antigen expression was compared at ovarian and extra-ovarian sites. Thirty-two PPC cases were compared to 18 POC cases. Mean age, stage, grade, and survival outcome were comparable between the two groups. Antigen expression patterns were not significantly different between PPC and POC for the four markers studied. In all cases, nm23-H1 was expressed. Conversely, bcl-2 was expressed at only a single tissue site in three of 32 (9.4%) PPC cases and in one of 18 (5.6%) POC cases. Eleven of 32 (34.4%) PPC cases overexpressed HER-2/neu, vs. four of 18 (22.2%) POC cases. P53 staining results were positive in 23 of 32 (71.9%) PPC and 13 of 18 (72.2%) POC cases. Intrapatient antigen expression was identical at primary and metastatic tumor sites in 50% of the POC and 48.4% of the PPC cases. We conclude that PPC and POC have a comparable immunohistochemical phenotype for these four molecular markers, which is reflected by their similar clinical courses.

Abstract:
Although protein kinase C (PKC) and phosphatidylinositol 3 (PI3)-kinase are implicated in cardioprotective signal transduction mediated by ischemic preconditioning, their role in pharmacological preconditioning (PPC) has not been determined. Cultured neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (CMCs) were subjected to simulated ischemia for 2 h followed by 15 min of reoxygenation. PPC of CMCs consisted of administration of 50 μM adenosine, 50 μM diazoxide, and 50 μM S-nitroso- N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP), each alone or in combination, for 15 min followed by 30 min of washout before simulated ischemia. Although PKC-ε and PI3-kinase were significantly activated during treatment with adenosine, activation of these kinases dissipated after washout. In contrast, PPC combined with adenosine, diazoxide, and SNAP elicited sustained activation of PKC-ε and PI-3 kinase after washout. The combined-PPC, but not the single-PPC, protocol conferred antiapoptotic and antinecrotic effects after reoxygenation. The PKC inhibitor chelerythrine (5 μM) or the PI3-kinase inhibitor LY-294002 (10 μM) given during the washout period partially blocked the activation of PKC-ε and PI3-kinase mediated by the combined-PPC protocol, whereas combined addition of chelerythrine and LY-294002 completely inhibited activation of PKC-ε and PI3-kinase. Chelerythrine or LY-294002 partially blocked antiapoptotic and antinecrotic effects mediated by the combined-PPC protocol, whereas combined addition of chelerythrine and LY-294002 completely abrogated antiapoptotic and antinecrotic effects. These results suggest that the combined-PPC protocol confers cardioprotective memory through sustained and interdependent activation of PKC and PI3-kinase.

Abstract:
Parietal and frontal cortex are central to controlling forelimb movements. We previously showed that movements such as reach, grasp, and defense can be evoked from primary motor (M1), premotor (PMC), and posterior parietal (PPC) cortex when 500-ms trains of electrical pulses are delivered via microelectrodes. Stimulation sites that evoked a specific movement clustered into domains, which shared a topographic pattern in New World monkeys and prosimian galagos. Matched functional domains in parietal and frontal cortex were preferentially interconnected. We reasoned that matched functional domains form parallel networks involved in specific movements. To test the roles of domains in M1, PMC, and PPC, we systematically inactivated with muscimol domains in one region and determined if functional changes occurred in matching domains in other regions. The most common changes were higher current thresholds for stimulation-evoked movements and shorter, not fully developed, trajectories of movements. Inactivations of an M1 functional domain greatly reduced or abolished movements evoked from the matching domains in PMC or PPC, whereas movements evoked from nonmatching domains remained mostly unaffected. In contrast, inactivating PMC or PPC domains did not consistently abolish the ability to evoke movements from matching M1 domains. However, inactivation of PMC domains suppressed or altered the movements evoked from PPC domains. Thus movement sequences evoked from PMC depend on M1 and movement sequences evoked from PPC depend on both M1 and PMC. Overall, the results support the conclusion that PPC, PMC, and M1 are subdivided into functional domains that are hierarchically related within parallel networks.

Abstract:
IntroductionAccess to maternal and newborn healthcare has improved in Myanmar. However, regular contact with skilled care providers does not necessarily result in quality care. We assessed adequate contact made by women and newborns with skilled care providers, reception of high-quality care and quality-adjusted contacts during antenatal care (ANC), peripartum care (PPC) and postnatal care (PNC) in Myanmar.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted in a predominantly urban township of Yangon and a predominantly rural township of Ayeyawady in March 2016. We collected data from 1500 women. We measured quality-adjusted contact, which refers to adequate contact with high-quality care, as follows: ≥4 ANC contacts and receiving 11–14 of 14 intervention items; facility-based delivery assisted by skilled care providers, receiving 7 of 7 PPC intervention items; and receiving the first PNC contact ≤24 hours postpartum and ≥2 additional contacts, and receiving 16–17 of 17 intervention items. Using multilevel logistic regression analysis with a random intercept at cluster level, we identified factors associated with adequate contact and high-quality ANC, PPC and PNC.ResultsThe percentage of crude adequate contact was 60.9% for ANC, 61.3% for PPC and 11.5% for PNC. However, the percentage of quality-adjusted contact was 14.6% for ANC, 15.2% for PPC and 3.6% for PNC. Adequate contact was associated with receiving high-quality care at ANC, PPC and PNC. Being a teenager, low educational level, multiparity and low level in the household wealth index were negatively associated with adequate contact with healthcare providers for ANC and PPC. Receiving a maternal and child health handbook was positively associated with adequate contact for ANC and PPC, and with receiving high-quality ANC, PPC and PNC.ConclusionWomen and newborns do not receive quality care during contact with skilled care providers in Myanmar. Continuity and quality of maternal and newborn care programmes must be improved.

Abstract:
This paper approaches the intentional structure of the emotions by considering three claims about that structure. The paper departs from the Brentanian and Husserlian ‘priority of presentation claim’ (PPC). The PPC comprises two theses: (1) intentional feelings and emotions are founded on presenting acts and (2) intentional feelings and emotions are directed specifically to the value-attributes of the presented objects. The paper then considers two challenges to this claim: the equiprimordial claim (EC) and the priority of feeling claim (PFC). The EC asserts that the presentational and affective dimensions of intentional feelings and emotions are equiprimordial. I respond to this challenge to the PPC by revising it, claiming instead that the founding relations exist between the presentational and affective senses (rather than the acts) in an experience whose presenting and affective aspects are equiprimordial. The PFC grants priority to the affective, a grant which presupposes the independence of the affective from the presentational. I argue that the PFC is mistaken, and that the revision of the PPC can handle the examples on which the PFC is based.

Abstract:
The paper presents a classification of 51 solvents based on clustering in three-dimensional space formed by the empirical scale of PAC, PBC, and PPC parameters designed for interpretation of solvent effect on a model with cross-terms. For the classification used are the clustering methods of the nearest neighbour, of the furthest neighbour, of average bond, and the centroid method. As a result, the solvents have been divided into 8 classes denoted as: I - nonpolar-inert solvents (aliphatic hydrocarbons), IIp - nonpolar-polarizable (aromatic hydrocarbons, tetrachloromethane, carbon disulphide), IIb - nonpolar-basic (ethers, triethylamine), IIIp - little polar-polarizable (aliphatic halogen derivatives, substituted benzenes with heteroatom-containing substituents), IIIb - little polar-basic (cyclic ethers, ketones, esters, pyridine), IVa - polar-aprotic (acetanhydride, dialkylamides, acetonitrile, nitromethane, dimethyl sulfoxide, sulfolane), IVp - polar-protic (alcohols, acetic acid), and V - exceptional solvents (water, formamide, glycol, hexamethylphosphoric triamide). The information content of the individual parameters used for the classification has been determined. The classification is based primarily on solvent polarity/acidity (PAC), less on polarity/basicity (PBC), and the least on polarity/polarizability (PPC). Causal relation between chemical structure of solvent and its effect on the process taking place therein has been established.

Abstract:
Nine households of high, medium and low income level were selected as representative household of the Taihu Lake basin, China to study the measuring method of pollutant producing coefficient (PPC) and pollutant discharge coefficient (PDC) of rural domestic sewage and organic waste. Results showed that the income level had no significant influences on TN-/TP-PPC of rural domestic sewage but substantially affected the production and TN-/TP-PDC of domestic sewage, as well as the production and TN-/TP-PPC/PDC of organic waste, which corresponded with income such that high-income farmer households produced the most and the middle income produced lesser and the low income households produced the least amount. The utilization and treatment efficiency of toilet wastewater and the comprehensive utilization rate of organic wastes, particularly the rate of livestock were the primary influencing factors of domestic sewage and waste PDC. These factors were substantially affected by agricultural income level and septic tank type.

Abstract:
Working memory (WM) deficiencies in patients with schizophrenia (PSZ) are thought to be caused by PFC dysfunction, but few research have looked at non-manipulated measures of WM storage. Storage capacity is more closely tied to the posterior parietal cortex (PPC) than the frontal cortex (PFC) in neurotypical people, suggesting that impairments in WM storage capacity in schizophrenia that are associated with widespread cognitive deficits may be related to neuronal activity in the PPC. While receiving fMRI, 37 PSZ and 37 matched healthy control volunteers of both sexes conducted a change detection test with varied set sizes. The assignment was created to emphasis WM storage while requiring minimal top-down management. BOLD activity correlated with the number of items kept in WM (K), as determined by task performance at a particular set size, according to whole-brain analyses. Independent of set size, K values predicted BOLD activity in the PPC, including the superior and inferior parietal lobules, intraparietal sulcus, and middle occipital gyrus, across groups. In the left PPC, whole-brain interaction analysis revealed that PSZ had much less K-dependent signal modulation than healthy control participants, a finding that could not be explained by a smaller K value range. The slope between K and PPC activation accounted for 43.4 percent of the variations in broad cognitive performance across groups. These findings suggest that PPC dysfunction is linked to WM storage abnormalities in PSZ and may play a role in schizophrenia's widespread cognitive deficiencies.

Abstract:
An experiment was conducted to determine if rapid enumeration of populations of Pseudomonas fluorescens by standard methods and by measuring capacitance could be used to predict the potential shelf life of fresh broiler chicken. Fifty whole ready-to-cook broiler chicken carcasses were obtained fresh from the chiller and separated into five groups (10 carcasses each) in three replicate trials. The first 10 carcasses were sampled by rinsing on day 0. Ten carcasses each were sampled by rinsing after holding for 3, 6, 9, or 12 days at 3°C. For each carcass, psychrotrophic plate counts (PPC), P. fluorescens plate counts (PFPC), P. fluorescens detection times (PFDT), and subjective odor evaluations (ODOR) were determined. PPC, PFPC, and ODOR on groups of carcasses significantly increased after 3 days of storage at 3°C and every day thereafter throughout the storage period. The log Pseudomonas fluorescens detection times (LPDT) significantly decreased throughout storage from 0 to 12 days, indicating a significant increase in bacterial populations. Significant linear and quadratic correlations, respectively, were observed between PPC and day of storage (DAY) (R2 = .86 and .84), PFPC and DAY (R2 = .85 and .89), LPDT and DAY (R2 = .86 and .85), ODOR and DAY (R2 = .73 and .86), PPC and ODOR (R2 = .80 and .72), PFPC and ODOR (R2 = .87 and .81), LPDT and ODOR (R2 = .85 and .77), and LPDT and PPC (R2 = .96 and .97). A significant linear correlation was observed between LPDT and PFPC (R2 = .93). Enumeration of P. fluorescens from fresh chicken at day of processing should be beneficial because (i) the potential shelf life of fresh chicken can be determined at day of processing; (ii) processing sanitation hygiene may be determined; and (iii) carcasses exposed to temperature abuse may be identified.

Abstract:
Pay per click (PPC) advertising over the past few years has gained importance and companies invest larger amounts of money into it. There are more PPC systems in the market from which to choose for advertising. Which PPC system is appropriate to use for a specific campaign? This thesis consists of four chapters (excluding introduction and conclusion). The first chapter clarifies terms, talks about the basic characteristics of the subject and gives an idea of the importance of the topic (position of pay per click in the market of internet advertising). The second chapter characterizes three PPC systems (and their principles) which the author considers to be the most important in the Slovak market. The third chapter is important for the characterisation of different types of PPC campaigns. In it the author used his own classification of PPC campaigns. Two case studies are analysed in the fourth chapter. According to them an evaluation of the suitability of selected PPC systems is made (using induction method). The first three chapters are based on an analysis of available literature, the fourth part on the author's own experiences.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the problem of evaluating the effectiveness of digital marketing; more specifically it looks at the topic of Pay-per-click advertising on the scope of Small and Medium-sized businesses in the Czech Republic. The thesis provides literature review of the historical and current possible practices of what specific measures can be used to evaluate the success of pay-per-click advertising. Moreover, it connects the measurement subject with the associated area of attribution modeling. This topic represents an important issue for the online marketers mostly because of a currently widely used last-click attribution model that is not able to attribute the fair value of the different channels on the consumer journey to purchase. The primary research conducted in the form of qualitative research through in-depth interviews brings insights into the current practices of selected representatives of Czech SME sector as well as the digital agencies on the matter of measuring the success of online marketing and the attribution modeling. Derived findings give a picture at what stage of development the measurement and attribution of PPC currently is in the Czech SME market.

The objective of this study is to determine whether brands create value for shareholders and the extent to which such value can be quantified. The research methodology is based on a case study of Pretoria Portland Cement, South Africa’s leading cement producer, and seeks to demonstrate how a commodity like cement can be successfully differentiated and branded. Primary data was gathered by conducting unstructured interviews with business leaders and key personnel involved with the development and execution of the company’s brand vision. Secondary data is based on the results of a customer loyalty survey by IPSOS Markinor as well as on customer perceptions from Millward Brown’s BrandDynamics™ model. The results of both these surveys, together with historic market share data and the company’s financial performance over a 15-year period, is analysed and interpreted before conclusions are made about the brand’s contribution to value creation. The study concludes by attempting to make generally applicable findings about the value of brands and their overall contribution to shareholder value. One of the major limitations of the study is the inability to assign a definitive value to the PPC brand because of the vast number of credible brand valuation models available and the lack of consensus among academics and industry experts regarding the determination of brand value.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The application of a pneumatic gantry robot to contour tracking is examined. A hybrid controller is structured to control the contact force and the tangential velocity, simultaneously. In a previous study, experimental contour tracking results for the robot were obtained with electronic proportional pressure control (PPC) valves. The results demonstrated the potential of pneumatic actuation for contour tracking applications. In another study it was found that improvement in performance was limited by system lag and Coulomb friction. A neural network (NN) compensator was developed to counter both effects. Simulation results demonstrated the effectiveness of the NN compensator. Although improvement in performance with NN compensation was significant, this was offset by the requirement for substantive design effort. This paper shows experimentally that equally significant improvement can be achieved by switching from PPC valves to proportional flow control (PFC) valves. The PFC approach requires less design effort.

Abstract:

In ASME 2017 Internal Combustion Engine Division Fall Technical Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/icef2017-3544.

Full text
Abstract:
A partially premixed combustion (PPC) approach was applied in a single cylinder diesel research engine in order to characterize engine power improvements. PPC is an alternative advanced combustion approach that generally results in lower engine-out soot and NOx emission, with a moderate penalty in engine-out unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions. In this study PPC is accomplished with a minority fraction of jet fuel injected into the intake manifold, while the majority fraction of jet fuel is delivered directly to the combustion chamber near the start of combustion (SOC). Four compression ratios (CR) were studied. Exhaust emissions plus exhaust opacity and particulate measurements were performed during the experiments in addition to fast in-cylinder combustion metrics. It was seen that as CR increased the soot threshold equivalence ratio decreased for conventional diesel combustion, however this afforded an increased opportunity for higher levels of port injected fuel leading to power increases from 5 to 23% as CR increased from 14 to 21.5. PPC allowed for these power increases (defined by a threshold opacity level of 3%) due to smaller particles (and lower overall number of particles) in the exhaust that influence measured opacity less significantly than larger and more numerous conventional diesel combustion exhaust particulates. Carbon monoxide levels at the higher PPC driven power levels were only modestly higher, although NOx was generally lower due to the overall enriched operation.

Abstract:
There is a continued tragic loss of firefighter and civilian lives, as shown by fire statistics. One significant contributing factor is the lack of understanding of fire behavior in residential structures resulting from the use of ventilation as a firefighter practice on the fire ground. The changing dynamics of residential fires as a result of the changes in home construction materials, contents, size and geometry over the past 30 years compounds our lack of understanding of the effects of ventilation on fire behavior. Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) fans were introduced as a technology to increase firefighter safety by controlling the ventilation. However, adequate scientific data is not available for PPV to be used without increasing the risk to firefighters. This fire research report details the experimental data from cold flow experiments, fuel load characterization experiments and full scale fire experiments. During the project it was identified that the positive pressure attack (PPA) and positive pressure ventilation (PPV) were often used interchangeably. For the purpose of this report they have been defined as PPA for when the fan is utilized prior to fire control and PPV for when the fan is used post fire control. The information from the full scale tests was reviewed with assistance from our technical panel of fire service experts to develop tactical considerations for the use of PPV fans in residential single family structures.
