Abstract:
Pay per click (PPC) advertising over the past few years has gained importance and companies invest larger amounts of money into it. There are more PPC systems in the market from which to choose for advertising. Which PPC system is appropriate to use for a specific campaign? This thesis consists of four chapters (excluding introduction and conclusion). The first chapter clarifies terms, talks about the basic characteristics of the subject and gives an idea of the importance of the topic (position of pay per click in the market of internet advertising). The second chapter characterizes three PPC systems (and their principles) which the author considers to be the most important in the Slovak market. The third chapter is important for the characterisation of different types of PPC campaigns. In it the author used his own classification of PPC campaigns. Two case studies are analysed in the fourth chapter. According to them an evaluation of the suitability of selected PPC systems is made (using induction method). The first three chapters are based on an analysis of available literature, the fourth part on the author's own experiences.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the use of PPC advertising (text and banner ads) on Google Display Network. The theoretical part of thesis describes basics of PPC advertising and its possible use. Also Google AdWords is described as a useful tool for PPC campaigns. The thesis describes basic targeting characteristics on Google Display Network, specifically context targeting, placement targeting, topic targeting, interests of users targeting and remarketing targeting. The practical part of the thesis deals with efficiency evaluation of text and banner advertising by every mentioned type of targeting. Different types of targeting are shown on two examples (advertisers). There are also outputs from AdWords and charts. The output of thesis is the evaluation of different types of targeting by both advertisers and final recommendations.

This thesis examines the problem of evaluating the effectiveness of digital marketing; more specifically it looks at the topic of Pay-per-click advertising on the scope of Small and Medium-sized businesses in the Czech Republic. The thesis provides literature review of the historical and current possible practices of what specific measures can be used to evaluate the success of pay-per-click advertising. Moreover, it connects the measurement subject with the associated area of attribution modeling. This topic represents an important issue for the online marketers mostly because of a currently widely used last-click attribution model that is not able to attribute the fair value of the different channels on the consumer journey to purchase. The primary research conducted in the form of qualitative research through in-depth interviews brings insights into the current practices of selected representatives of Czech SME sector as well as the digital agencies on the matter of measuring the success of online marketing and the attribution modeling. Derived findings give a picture at what stage of development the measurement and attribution of PPC currently is in the Czech SME market.

The objective of this study is to determine whether brands create value for shareholders and the extent to which such value can be quantified. The research methodology is based on a case study of Pretoria Portland Cement, South Africa’s leading cement producer, and seeks to demonstrate how a commodity like cement can be successfully differentiated and branded. Primary data was gathered by conducting unstructured interviews with business leaders and key personnel involved with the development and execution of the company’s brand vision. Secondary data is based on the results of a customer loyalty survey by IPSOS Markinor as well as on customer perceptions from Millward Brown’s BrandDynamics™ model. The results of both these surveys, together with historic market share data and the company’s financial performance over a 15-year period, is analysed and interpreted before conclusions are made about the brand’s contribution to value creation. The study concludes by attempting to make generally applicable findings about the value of brands and their overall contribution to shareholder value. One of the major limitations of the study is the inability to assign a definitive value to the PPC brand because of the vast number of credible brand valuation models available and the lack of consensus among academics and industry experts regarding the determination of brand value.

Partido Popular Cristiano (PPC) es un partido peruano de derecha fundado en 1966. Sin embargo, nunca ha ganado ninguno de los cargos más importantes del país pese a que, espe- cialmente en la última década, se lo propuso con gran determinación. La literatura sobre la poca competitividad electoral de los partidos políticos peruanos ha señalado que ello se debería a factores históricos, estructurales, institucionales u organizacionales, difícilmente superables. En esa línea, los pocos autores que han arriesgado hipótesis sobre el PPC han resaltado una supuesta ideologización y poca apertura a sectores populares como los factores que lo han hecho poco competitivo. En cambio, en este trabajo se argumenta que en la última década la poca competitividad del PPC ha sido profundizada por la adopción por parte de sus élites partidarias de una estrategia atrapa-todo, la cual implicó que no se posicionara en el debate político programático existente en el Perú de forma clara y permanente y, por tanto, perdiera identidad política, crucial en un contexto con altos niveles de volatilidad, dificultades para la agregación de intereses y en el que no siempre se necesitan de grandes mayorías para ganar elecciones. La falta de una identidad política enraizada en una parte de la ciudadanía le impidió conservar un voto duro y una logística organizacional, factores que en el Perú brindan una mayor capacidad competitiva.

The theme of the diploma thesis is called "On-line Communications Strategy Plan for the Cinoherni klub theatre". The theoretical part of the thesis deals mainly with internet marketing and communications strategies in a business. A method called Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is described in details in this part. The thesis deals also with some possibilities of how to effectively use internet advertising to drive traffic to company's websites. In the practical part of the thesis a specific internet communications strategy for Cinoherni club theatre is designed. Le but de cette thèse est de développer un modèle prédictif pour les calculs d'équilibres de phases en présence de molécules multifonctionnelles: c’est-à-dire des composés purs ramifiés avec plusieurs groupes polaires et des mélanges de ces composés avec l'eau et les alcanes. Deux défis sont identifiés:(1) Le branchement : un modèle GC-PPC-SAFT hétérosegmenté capable de prendre en compte la connectivité entre segments par rapport à l’homosegmenté disponible à ce jour a été codé dans le serveur IFPEN en collaboration avec l'Université de Stuttgart. Le paramétrage est ensuite basé sur une préalable analyse des données expérimentales afin de prédire correctement la pression de vapeur des alcanes linéaires, des alcanes ramifiés, des alcools linéaires et des diols. Une correction des paramètres en fonction de la distance entre différents groupes fonctionnels s’avère nécessaire. Aussi, une correction du terme chaîne dans l'approche hétérosegmentée afin de pouvoir réduire l'approche hétérosegmentée à l'approche homosegmentée pour des molécules de segments équivalents est proposée.(2) La multifonctionnalité: certains isomères contenant deux groupes associatifs se comportent différemment selon leur environnement. Ce phénomène est interprété en remarquant que la distance entre les groupes fonctionnels leur permet de se lier à l'hydrogène au sein de la molécule, désactivant ainsi l'association intermoléculaire. Les paramètres de certains groupes sont ensuite adaptés pour prendre en compte leur position dans la molécule. La correction permet d'étendre la prévisibilité du modèle à des mélanges eau + molécule fonctionnelle ramifiée ou alcane + molécules fonctionnelles ramifiées
The purpose of this thesis is to develop a predictive model for phase equilibrium calculations of multifunctional molecules: branched pure compounds with several polar groups and mixtures of these compounds with water and alkanes. Two challenges have been identified:(1) Branching: a heterosegmented GC-PPC-SAFT model able to take into account the connectivity between segments as compared to the homosegmented GC-PPC-SAFT available so far has been coded in IFPEN server in collaboration with the University of Stuttgart. It is then parameterized using data analysis so as to fit the vapor pressure of linear alkanes, branched alkanes, linear alcohols and diols. A correction of some parameters that is function of the distance between functional groups was needed. Also, a correction of the chain term in the heterosegmented approach so as to be able to reduce the heterosegmented approach to the homosegmented one for molecules with equivalent segments is proposed. (2) Multifunctional molecules: some isomers containing two associating groups behave differently depending on their surroundings. This phenomenon is interpreted by noticing that the distance between functional groups makes it possible for them to hydrogen-bond within the molecule, thus deactivating the intermolecular association. The parameter of some functional groups is then adapted so as to take into consideration their position in the molecule. The correction makes it possible to extend the model predictability to mixtures of water + branched functional molecule or alkane + branched functional molecules

Abstract:
The present study aims to investigate the phonological development of typically developing monolingual Swedish speaking children aged three to four years. The result could be used in the standardization of a new phonological test material for clinical speech and language pathology assessments. One-hundred and thirty four children aged three and four years (73 girls and 61 boys) were assessed with the new material. The children were tested in kindergartens in three communities in southeastern Sweden. Their assessments were audio recorded, transcribed phonetically and analyzed with Percentage Phonemes Correct (PPC) and Percentage of Words Correct (PWC). An analysis of speech error patterns of substitutions of phonemes, reduction of consonant clusters and word structural deviations was conducted. The data recorded from the children were divided and analyzed in four semi-annual intervals and two annual intervals. The result shows a clear developmental trend with children in the older age group having a higher PPC and PWC than the younger children. Significant differences were found between the groups in annual intervals. Significant differences could only be demonstrated between the youngest age group and the other groups at semi-annual intervals. No significant gender differences were observed. Most of the errors of individual phonemes and consonant clusters among children in all age groups were distortions rather than substitutions, but the younger children simplified consonant clusters more often.

The thesis is concerned with a content network within the scope of online advertising and evaluation of factors of its success within online campaigns. The introductory part deals with the most common revenue models of online marketing and categorizing methods of online advertising regarding their specifics. The body of the paper describes metrics and a method of targeting applied in contemporaneous practice and furthermore introduces evaluation indicators in online marketing for content networks used in final analysis. The thesis presents and compares advertising systems for targeting in a content network. The goal of the paper is to show impact evaluation of chosen settings of advertising campaigns on their success, more specifically on possibilities of targeting and formulation of recommendations for their management.

A proposta desta pesquisa é analisar a oposição aspectual entre o pretérito perfeito simples do indicativo e o pretérito perfeito composto do mesmo modo nas Cartas de Vieira, com base, sobretudo, nos estudos de Castilho (1968), Travaglia (1980) e Campos (1997). Nas Cartas nota-se o uso destes dois tempos apresentando: 1. contaste aspectual nos moldes atuais; 2. construções, aparentemente de pretérito perfeito composto, expressando um fato consumado e 3. vestígios de construções antigas com o particípio passado concordando com o objeto direto. Vieira viveu no século XVII, sendo, assim, um representante da fase moderna do português (segunda metade do século XVI e século XVII), segundo a periodização de Bechara (1985). Fez-se, também, o acompanhamento diacrônico dos tempos compostos do português, estabelecendo suas possíveis origens, segundo Bomfim (2002).
The aim of this work is to analyse the aspectual oposition between Pretérito Perfeito Simples do Indicativo and Pretérito Perfeito Composto with the same verbal form in Padre Antônio Vieira’s letters, based on, especially in Castilho (1968), Travaglia (1980) and Campos (1997). In the letters it is noticed the use of these two tenses with in: 1. aspectual contrast, as in nowadays; 2. constructions aparently of pretérito perfeito composto, meaning happened act and 3. vestiges of old constructions formed by past participle in concordance to direct object. Vieira lived in XVII century belonging to modern portuguese period (second half of XVI century and all XVII century), according to periodization study by Bechara (1985). Futhermore, were observed the diachronic process envolving compound tenses in Portuguese establishing their possible origins, according Bomfim (2002).

Diesel Engine has been the most powerful and relevant source of power in the automobile industryfor decades due to their excellent performance, efficiency and power. On the contrary, there arenumerous environmental issues of the diesel engines hampering the environment. It has been agreat challenge for the researchers and scientists to minimize these issues. In the recent years, severalstrategies have been introduced to eradicate the emissions of the diesel engines. Among them,Partially Premixed Combustion (PPC) is one of the most emerging and reliable strategies. PPC is acompression ignited combustion process in which ignition delay is controlled. PPC is intended toendow with better combustion with low soot and NOx emission.The engine used in the present study is a single-cylinder research engine, installed in Aalto UniversityInternal Combustion Engine Laboratory with the bore diameter of 200 mm. The thesis presentsthe validation of the measurement data with the simulated cases followed by the study of the sprayimpingement and fuel vapor mixing in PPC mode for different injection timing. A detailed study ofthe correlation of early injection with the fuel vapor distribution and wall impingement has beenmade.The simulations are carried out with the commercial CFD software STAR CD. Different injectionparameters have been considered and taken into an account to lower the wall impingement and toproduce better air-fuel mixing with the purpose of good combustion and reduction of the emissions.The result of the penetration length of the spray and the fuel vapor distribution for different earlyinjection cases have been illustrated in the study. Comparisons of different thermodynamic propertiesand spray analysis for different injection timing have been very clearly illustrated to get insightof effect of early injection. The parameters like injection timing, injection period, injection pressure,inclusion angle of the spray have an influence the combustion process in PPC mode. Extensivestudy has been made for each of these parameters to better understand their effects in the combustionprocess. Different split injection profiles have been implemented for the study of better fuelvapor distribution in the combustion chamber.The final part of the thesis includes the study of the combustion and implementation of EGR tocontrol the temperature so as to get more prolonged ignition delay to accompany the PPC strategyfor standard piston top and deep bowl piston top. With the injection optimization and implementationof EGR, NOx has been reduced by around 44%, CO by 60% and Soot by 66% in the standardpiston top. The piston optimization resulted in more promising result with 58% reduction in NOx,55% reduction in CO and 67% reduction in Soot. In both cases the percentage of fuel burnt wasincreased by around 8%.

Les systèmes de la programmation par contraintes sont impuissants face à des problèmes sur-contraints. De plus, la résolution des problèmes dynamiques revient à résoudre une suite de problèmes statiques. Mais ceci peut rapidement devenir rohibitif en temps de calcul. Il s'avère donc nécessaire de disposer d'outils de mise au point pour traiter ces problèmes. Nous nous sommes intéressés à la proposition et la conception d'outils interactifs de mise au point se basant sur les explications k-relevantes. Nous présentons cinq outils permettant de : calculer des explications précises; fournir un bon diagnostic; savoir si une contrainte appartient à un nogood; simuler l'ajout (resp. Relaxation) de contraintes. Souvent, les nogoods sont incompréhensibles, d'où l'intérêt d'un outil fournissant des nogoods conviviaux permettant une bonne interaction. Enfin, nous proposons un nouvel algorithme de calcul de nogoods minimaux en combinant l'approche intrusive/non-intrusive
Constraint programming is helpless when the problems are over-constrained. Moreover, the resolution of the dynamic problems can be done by solving a succession of static problems. But this becomes quickly prohibitory in computing time. It thus proves necessary to have debugging tools to handle these problems. We propose and design interactive debugging tools based on k-relevant explanations. We present five tools : to calculate precise explanations; to provide a richer diagnosis; to know if a constraint belongs to a nogood; to simulate the addition (resp. Relaxation) constraints. Often, the nogoods are not user-friendly, for this reason we propose a tool providing user-friendly nogoods allowing a good interaction. At last, we propose a new algorithm to compute minimal nogoods by combining the intrusive/non-intrusive approach

The thesis is dealing with information technologies with an emphasis on the Internet, Internet marketing and its special regions of SEO, SEM and PPC, which mutual comparison makes the focal point of my work. The theoretical part is a successive analysis of the influences of the Internet marketing, SEM and SEO. Then, it states and explains the particular items the optimization of searchers is based upon. The following parts contain the analysis and questionnaires that are related to the region of the searchers. The theoretical part is concluded with an explanation of the principle of the PPC advertising systems and gives a description of the two most widely used ones -- Sklik and AdWords. The practical part starts with an application of the particular theoretical knowledge on the real examples of some websites. This is followed by two practical examples of websites (a standard one and an e-shop) that draw comparison between the PPC advertising and optimization of searchers. The evaluation at the end of the thesis shows the conditions worth using SEO, and, on the contrary, the cases when using of the PPC advertising campaigns would be more preferable. The desired outcome of my thesis would be to help assess the conditions when the right and quality SEO application is or is not the right choice among the other brands of Internet marketing; and give an example of how cheaper (or more expensive) than the PPC advertising campaigns the optimization could be.

The deficit of teachers in the country throughout the history of Brazil is due to many factors and among them the low expectations for the teaching profession presented by young Brazilians, especially in the areas of Exact Sciences, contributed to the Federal Government to establish from the law No. 11,892 / 08, the Federal Institutes (IF) should allocate 20% (twenty percent) of the budget funds for degree courses and teacher qualifications. The state of Goiás currently has two IF, the IFG and the IF Goiano, each institution has five chemistry degree courses created from the year 2008. In this study we sought to analyze the training context in degree courses in Chemistry IF Goiano and used as research objects courses Pedagogical Project (PPP) of the five undergraduate programs of the institution, in order to analyze the professional profile sought this in the documents built by the members of each campus, and also use the "voices "the licentiate in chemistry obtained from questionnaires, to seek the views and perspectives imposed on teacher training. Analyses signaled that although undergraduate courses, direct courses for teacher training with the technological bias and the formation of structure has a trodden direction in the training model by technical rationality. This model can interfere in the professional profile to be formed in the IF Goiano, which can approach the bachelor's degree programs. This distortion in the formation may possess intrinsic relationship with the habitus set of IF Goiano, which compromises the teacher training of future teachers, in order not to become autonomous and reflective teachers. is denoted by the voices of licensees, that the teaching profession is not the first option after completing the course and end up choosing to work in industries, laboratories, other areas, or end up postponing the educational performance when enrolling in graduate school and this lack of perspective may be related to the lack of incentive and encouragement in their own courses. The survey also allowed us to analyze the implicit concepts in PPC interfere with the type of teacher training not targeted by the survey, able to exercise it in the educational field, with a survey of the overlap of the chemical field, which contributes to the misconception with relation to the training model of the teacher, which is a professional performer of routine activities, not using research as a tool towards a transformative education.
O déficit de professores no país ao longo da história do Brasil deve-se a vários fatores e dentre eles as baixas expectativas pela carreira docente apresentada pelos jovens brasileiros, principalmente nas áreas de Ciências Exatas, contribuiu para que o Governo Federal estabelecesse a partir da lei n° 11.892/08, que os Institutos Federais (IF) deveriam destinar 20% (vinte por cento) dos recursosorçamentários para cursos de licenciatura e qualificação de professores. O estado de Goiás apresenta atualmente dois IF, o IFG e o IF Goiano, sendo que cada instituição apresenta cinco cursos de licenciatura em química criados a partir do ano de 2008. Nesta pesquisa buscamos fazer uma análise do contexto formativo nos cursos de licenciatura em Química do IF Goiano e utilizamos como objetos de pesquisa os Projetos Pedagógicos de Cursos (PPC) dos cinco cursos de licenciatura da instituição, com o intuito de analisar o perfil profissional pretendido presente nos documentos construídos pelos membros de cada campus, e também utilizamos das “vozes” dos licenciandos em Química, obtidas a partir de questionários, para buscar as concepções e perspectivas instituídas sobre a formação docente. As análises sinalizaram que embora sejam cursos de licenciaturas, os cursos direcionam para uma formação de professores com o viés tecnológico e que a estrutura de formação possui um direcionamento calcado no modelo de formação pela racionalidade técnica. Este modelo pode interferir no perfil do profissional a ser formado no IF Goiano, que pode se aproximar dos cursos de bacharelado. Esta distorção na formação pode possuir relação intrínseca com o habitus instituído do IF Goiano, o que compromete a formação docente dos futuros professores, no sentido de não tornarem professores autônomos e reflexivos. Denota-se pelas vozes dos licenciandos, que a carreira docente não é a primeira opção após a conclusão do curso e acabam optando por atuar em indústrias, laboratórios, outras áreas, ou acabam postergando a atuação docente ao se ingressarem na pós-graduação e esta falta de perspectiva pode estar relacionada com a falta de incentivo e estímulo nos próprios cursos. A investigação ainda permitiu analisar que as concepções implícitas nos PPC interferem no tipo de formação de professores, considerando o contexto da pesquisa no campo educacional, havendo uma sobreposição com a pesquisa do campo da química, o que contribui para a concepção equivocada com relação ao modelo formativo do professor, sendo este um profissional executor de atividades rotineiras, não utilizando a pesquisa como instrumento em prol de uma educação transformadora.

This thesis defines search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) issues. Thesis is divided into several parts which are closely connected to each other. First part of the thesis regards general formulas and terms definitions. In the second part the development on the field of SEO in last two years with accent of main changes which have happened till now is described. A market development in full-text browsers area and a search engine marketing development (where internet is perceived as a marketing instrument) in Czech Republic during years 2004 -- 2009 are also mentioned here. Third part shows opportunities of SEM including the most popular applications description, such as Sklik, AdWords or Etarget, social networks or catalogues. Fourth part concerns web pages analysis and data evaluation, let us say the ways how to analyze and evaluate these pages. Last part of my thesis consists of a practical review of methods and processes, which are described in previous parts of the thesis, with using shoes e-shop example. Here the whole process from opening analysis through keywords analysis till source codes editing and obtaining of external links by web catalogues are described. In addition to the optimization process is part of this thesis also chapter which describes the launch of advertising systems such as Sklik, AdWords and Etarget including evaluation of results and success of particular advertising campaigns realized through these systems. The conclusion of the practical section summarizes the benefits and knowledge that have been achieved by optimizing and which are applicable to other similar projects, which appear across all web in huge numbers. Potential reader of this thesis gets an overview of the current market state concerning full-text browsers in the Czech Republic and search engine marketing. The reader also discovers SEO changes which happened in last two years. Based on mentioned practical part of the thesis the reader should be able to apply basic knowledge in this area, including the basic PPC settings and including analysis of results and their evaluation.

Internationalization research has for a long time been dominated by a strong focus on how large firms from large and developed economies expand into other developed countries. Until recently, little attention has been devoted towards understanding that part of the internationalization process in which small and medium sized firms from small and open economies, attempt to establish themselves in undeveloped countries. This research gap is the point of departure for this thesis.

 

By using a recently published conceptual framework by Laanti et al. (2009) the authors study how five groups of factors have shaped the internationalization process of a small Swedish electricity company in the midst of starting up business in Congo Kinshasa. In this in-depth single-case study, data was collected through semi-structured interviews with representatives of PPC Engineering AB. The study finds that the importance of different factors vary throughout the process, but in this case, when seen as a whole, host country factors and company specific factors play the most prominent roles. Furthermore, Laanti et al.’s (2009) conceptual framework is redesigned to explain the dynamic process of internationalization. However, more research is needed to determine the extent to which this framework can be generalized.

Positive Psychological Change (PPC) following trauma is a developing field for which there is no standard terminology. The plethora of labels, of which Post Traumatic Growth (PTG) is probably the most common descriptor, arguably masks a significant gap in clinical and theoretical understanding of the phenomenon. One specific gap addressed by this study is PPC following psychological trauma stemming from a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) in which the person involved has subsequently received Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR). To investigate this gap in knowledge, an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach was used and twelve participants recruited via a snowball sampling method. The participants were then interviewed using a Semi-structured Interview Questionnaire (SSIQ) and the interviews were then transcribed for IPA analysis. Key themes that emerged included Navigational Struggle (NS) to describe Negative Psychological Change (NPC), and Network Growth (NG), to describe PPC. At any one post-RTA/EMDR point there was a preponderance of one over the other, however, NS and NG were inseparable and found to co-exist along an NS-NG continuum. In addition, Figurative Language Use (FLU) had a significant role in both NS and NG yet was independent of both and apparently driving change towards the development of NG. Whilst NS and NG were both post-trauma phenomena, FLU seemed to hallmark expansion of memory networks as part of a general maturation process post-RTA. Furthermore, there was evidence that participants were incorporating their traumatic experiences via FLU into the rebuilding of their assumptive worlds. To account for these findings, an extension to Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) – the theory widely accepted to underpin EMDR - is proposed based upon a hypothesised Plasticity of Meaning (PoM), which is observable through FLU. PoM predicts which, why and how memory networks connect resulting in the adaptive processing predicted by AIP. The study’s findings are re-examined in terms of consequential modifications to the clinical use of EMDR. Extensive suggestions for further research are provided.

Le virus de la Peste Porcine Classique est responsable d'une maladie hémorragique dont les symptômes varient en fonction de la virulence des souches. L'infection provoque une diminution du nombre de lymphocytes circulants permettant de différencier les souches sur des critères d'intensité et de cinétique, dont le mode d'induction implique un processus d'apoptose. Ce phénomène étant difficile à reproduire in vitro, des porcs ont été infectés par une souche hyper ou moyennement virulente afin d'étudier les différences observées lors de la mise en place de la lymphopénie. L'analyse transcriptomique a révélé une induction plus immédiate et intense des gènes stimulés par l'interféron et associés à un processus de mort cellulaire avec la souche hyper-virulente. Pour chacune des souches, cette induction est corrélée à la présence d'interféron alpha dans le sérum ainsi qu'à l'induction de la lymphopénie. Nos résultats suggèrent que le virus exacerbe la réponse antivirale de l'hôte, conduisant à la mort des lymphocytes, et que la virulence des souches influe sur les capacités de l'hôte à maintenir un contrôle sur la régulation de cette réponse interféron
Classical Swine Fever Virus is the causal agent of an hemorrhagic disease which clinical signs depend on the strains virulence. The infection induces a blood lymphocyte depletion that however allows the strains differentiation based on intensity and kinetics measures. Its way of induction is not well described but an apoptotic process is involved. Because of the difficulty to reproduce in vitro the virus-mediated apoptosis induction in lymphocytes, we infected pigs by either a highly virulent strain, or a moderately one, in order to decipher differences when the lymphocyte depletion takes place. Microarray analysis revealed a more sudden and acute induction of cell death-related interferon stimulated genes with the highly virulent strain. For each strain, this induction is correlated to the interferon alpha presence in serum and the lymphopenia induction. Our results suggest that the virus exacerbate host's antiviral response, leading to the death of lymphocytes, and that the strains virulence affect the host's capacities to keep control on this interferon response regulation

The objective of this work is to test the theory of Purchasing Power Parity in its absolute and relative version for Brazil from 1995 to 2010, using econometrics to establish procedures through hypothesis testing to validate or reject the theory of parity Purchasing Power. L'objectif de cette thèse est de développer un outil prédictif pour calculer les équilibres vapeur-liquide (VLE) associé à l'opération d'hydrotraitement à partir de biomasse pour la simulation de processus. La construction d'une base de données de solubilité fiables d'hydrogène et d'autres gaz d'hydrotraitement ont été réalisées. Le modèle utilisé a pour base l’équation Groupe Contribution- Polar Perturbed Chain - statistique Associer Fluid Theory (GC-PPC-SAFT), qui est version de PC-SAFT combiné avec la contribution de groupes proposé par Tamouza et un terme polaire développé par Nguyen Huynh. Des tests systématiques ont été effectué pour différents mélanges gaz + d'alcools, aldéhydes, esters, éthers, cétones, ... Une nouvelle contribution non-additif a été proposé sur la base des réflexions sur les interactions répulsives et l’effet de volume libre. Le modèle a été validé notamment par des simulations Monte Carlo. Ce terme non additif a été intégré dans GC-PPC-SAFT et testé pour les systèmes contenant de l'hydrogène. La méthode de contribution de groupes a été étendue au paramètre de ce nouveau terme. Des écarts moyens sur la constante de Henry sont en accord avec l'incertitude expérimentale (~ 10%). Nous avons également examiné la prédiction d’ autres gaz i.e. CO, H₂ S, NH₃ en utilisant GC-PPC-SAFT. Un paramètre associatif transversale a été utilisé pour des systèmes contenant H₂ S et NH₃. Les résultats sont tout à fait acceptable et cohérent avec l'incertitude expérimentale (~20%)
The main objective of this thesis is to develop a predictive tool to compute the vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) associated with hydrotreating operation from biomass for process simulation. The construction of a reliable database of hydrogen and the other hydrotreating gases solubilities have been done. The model used based on the Group Contribution – Polar Perturbed Chain – Statistical Associating Fluid Theory (GC-PPC-SAFT), which is PC-SAFT combined with the group contribution proposed by Tamouza and a polar term developed by Nguyen Huynh. The systematic tests have been perform for mixtures of alcohols, aldehydes, esters, ethers, ketones,… A new non-additive contribution has also been proposed based on the reflections on the repulsive interactions and the free volume effect. The model development are validated by Monte Carlo simulations. This non-additive term has been integrated in GC-PPC-SAFT Equation of state and tested for systems containing hydrogen. Group contribution method has been extended to its parameter. Average deviations on Henry’s constant are within the experimental uncertainty (~10%). We also have performed the prediction of the other gases i.e. CO, H₂S, NH₃ solubility using GC-PPC-SAFT. A cross associative parameter has been used for systems containing H₂S and NH₃. There is a growing interest in alternative transport fuels. There are two underlying reasons for this interest; the desire to decrease the environmental impact of transports and the need to compensate for the declining availability of petroleum. In the light of both these factors the Diesel Dual Fuel, DDF, engine is an attractive concept. The primary fuel of the DDF engine is methane, which can be derived both from renewables and from fossil sources. Methane from organic waste; commonly referred to as biomethane, can provide a reduction in greenhouse gases unmatched by any other fuel. The DDF engine is from a combustion point of view a hybrid between the diesel and the otto engine and it shares characteristics with both. This work identifies the main challenges of DDF operation and suggests methods to overcome them. Injector tip temperature and pre-ignitions have been found to limit performance in addition to the restrictions known from literature such as knock and emissions of NOx and HC. HC emissions are especially challenging at light load where throttling is required to promote flame propagation. For this reason it is desired to increase the lean limit in the light load range in order to reduce pumping losses and increase efficiency. It is shown that the best results in this area are achieved by using early diesel injection to achieve HCCI/RCCI combustion where combustion phasing is controlled by the ratio between diesel and methane. However, even without committing to HCCI/RCCI combustion and the difficult control issues associated with it, substantial gains are accomplished by splitting the diesel injection into two and allocating most of the diesel fuel to the early injection. HCCI/RCCI and PPCI combustion can be used with great effect to reduce the emissions of unburned hydrocarbons at light load. At high load, the challenges that need to be overcome are mostly related to heat. Injector tip temperatures need to be observed since the cooling effect of diesel flow through the nozzle is largely removed. Through investigation and modeling it is shown that the cooling effect of the diesel fuel occurs as the fuel resides injector between injections and not during the actual injection event. For this reason; fuel residing close to the tip absorbs more heat and as a result the dependence of tip temperature on diesel substitution rate is highly non-linear. The problem can be reduced greatly by improved cooling around the diesel injector. Knock and preignitions are limiting the performance of the engine and the behavior of each and how they are affected by gas quality needs to be determined. Based on experiences from this project where pure methane has been used as fuel; preignitions impose a stricter limit on engine operation than knock.

El presente trabajo busca determinar y cuantificar el desalineamiento del Tipo de Cambio Real respecto a su trayectoria de largo plazo, y los efectos que tiene dicho desalineamiento sobre los distintos sectores de la Economía Boliviana a partir del shock positivo de precios internacionales vivido a partir del año 2003 en el contexto mundial. Para dicho fin se ha dividido el mismo en tres partes. En una primera parte se identifica la situación de dicha variable al interior de nuestra economía y se plantea el periodo de estudio (1991 – 2008). En la segunda parte se plantea todo el marco teórico a utilizarse: Se presenta el modelo de PPC, mismo que se descarta, el modelo TNT para determinación del Tipo de Cambio Real, el cual finalmente se utiliza y un modelo de Booming Sector para una economía pequeña y abierta, el cual se utiliza para el testeo de Enfermedad Holandesa. La tercera parte es la de desarrollo a partir de series estadísticas para los modelos planteados en la segunda parte. Se utiliza el Modelo TNT para la obtención del Tipo de Cambio Real, utilizando la metodología de dos pasos de Engel – Granger. El primer paso consiste en plantear y determinar un Tipo de Cambio Real de Equilibrio a partir de variables que lo determinan (Fundamentos del Tipo de Cambio Real). El segundo paso determina la velocidad de ajuste del TCR hacia su trayectoria de equilibrio de largo plazo, luego de un shock externo. Para determinar la trayectoria de equilibrio de largo plazo es necesaria la eliminación de la tendencia para ello se utilizo el filtro de Hodrick y Prescott. A partir de lo anteriormente mencionado, se obtuvo una apreciación del Tipo de Cambio Real de 16% respecto a su trayectoria de equilibrio. Una vez obtenido el resultado que arroja apreciación del Tipo de Cambio Real, se utiliza el modelo de Booming Sector dividiendo a la economía en tres sectores y se corrobora insipiente presencia de Enfermedad Holandesa en la Economía Boliviana, cuantificándose el efecto causado por el boom de precios sobre el nivel de producción sobre los tres sectores en que se divide a la economía.

Gasoline Partially Premixed Combustion (PPC) was investigated in a single cylinder optical diesel engine. The PPC operation was achieved with a combination of high dilution and higher intake charge temperature at part-load conditions using Primary Reference Fuel (PRF). The relative air/fuel ratio (λ) was set to 2.3 and the EGR rate at 22%. Split injections of three fuel distribution strategies (50:50, 70:30 and 30:70) were studied. In addition, the effect of injection pressure (900 and 1200 bar) was investigated for each injection timing. The emission and performance of the gasoline PPC operations were then compared with those of the baseline diesel combustion operation. Based on the thermodynamic analysis of the engine performance, detailed in-cylinder studies were carried out by means of optical techniques. The high speed imaging technique was employed to observe the fuel spray development and combustion processes. A simultaneous Mie-LIF technique was then developed and utilized for the visualization of fuel liquid and vapour formation.

Katner, Ph.D. A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Virginia Commonwealth University, 2018 Advisor: Dr. Nicholas Farrell, Professor, Chemistry Department Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs), composed of the linear polysaccharide heparan sulfate (HS) conjugated to a protein core, are located on the cell surface and extracellular matrix. The HS chains display varying degrees of sulfation, which constitutes the molecular recognition motif for many HS-protein interactions. HSPGs, associated growth factors, and heparanase promote tumor progression by facilitating invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis.1 Sulfate clusters on the glycan backbone also mediate the interaction of polynuclear platinum complexes (PPCs) with HSPG through a “sulfate clamp.” Such PPC-HS interactions can be conceptualized as “polyarginine” mimics. Strong HS-PPC binding protects the oligosaccharide against sulfate loss through metalloshielding.2 The biological consequences of metalloshielding will in principle affect HS interactions with relevant enzymes and proteins such as heparanase and growth factors, similar in concept to the inhibition of DNA-protein binding through modification of DNA structure and conformation. The end-point of functional modulation of HS interactions is inhibition of angiogenesis and metastasis. PPCs are dual-function agents through their interactions with both nucleic acids and HS. The novel Pt-HS interactions open up new areas of metalloglycomics and potential anti-angiogenic activity. Here, we report PPC interactions with HS-like models: Fondaparinux (FPX)3 and heparin4. We demonstrate TriplatinNC high affinity to heparin in biophysical studies and compare HS interactions with DNA and HS using competition assays.3,4 these approaches may be extended to a range of metal-ammine compounds.4 The biological consequences of PPC-HS interactions include modulation of heparanase cleavage of FPX,3 growth factor binding to HS, and growth factor-induced migration and signaling in breast cancer and endothelial cells, as potential anti-metastatic and anti-angiogenic effects in vivo. We report proof-of-principle of strong in vivo anti-metastatic activity of PPCs in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) models.5–7 Already, PPC-HS interactions have major biological consequences in the aggressive metastatic TNBC mouse models. Impressively, PPCs reduce overall tumor metastases with emphasis in lung, bone, and liver locations in both immunocompetent and immunosuppressive mouse models. PPCs demonstrated permeability through the blood brain barrier (BBB) implying further applications for PPCs. PPCs represent a novel class of intrinsically dual-function agents combining platinum cytotoxicity through DNA targeting with anti-angiogenic effects through glycan targeting. The main goal of this thesis was evaluate the impact of indiviudal tools of communication mix on the results of the online campaign of the chosen brand. This campaign lasted for almost three months. The core of the campaign was consumer competition. The main goal of this campaign was sale increase and brand awareness. In the first part, I dealt with the tools of the communication mix from the point of view of the use in marketing and measuring their performance. In the second part, I analyzed the way brand worked with individual tools of commuciation mix and then I evaluated the tools according to established criteria such as impresion, interaction, web traffic and conversions. I used analytical tools to evaluate the success of each of the communication mix tools. After evaluating the communication mix tools, I suggested recommendations for further brand communication on the Internet. The biggest impact on the results of the campaign had Facebook, which clearly dominated among all of the tools from the point of view of all the criteria.

Pneumocystis jirovecii é um fungo com alta variabilidade genética, com tropismo e especificidade para o pulmão humano e capaz de provocar pneumonia intersticial severa em indivíduos imunocomprometidos. Tendo em conta que o diagnóstico laboratorial da pneumonia por Pneumocystis (PPc) depende da obtenção de espécimes respiratórios maioritariamente obtidos de forma invasiva e da visualização do microrganismo mediante técnicas morosas e onerosas, torna-se necessário explorar novas abordagens. Assim, é premente a obtenção de uma técnica de diagnóstico mais rápida e menos dispendiosa do que as existentes e que utilize amostras biológicas de obtenção pouco ou não invasiva. A IgA secretória é uma imunoglobulina que existe nas secreções nomeadamente na saliva, lágrimas e mucosas. Assim, a pesquisa de IgA anti-P. jirovecii em saliva, parece ser uma abordagem promissora no desenvolvimento de métodos de diagnóstico não invasivos da PPc. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo principal avaliar os níveis de IgA anti-P. jirovecii presentes na saliva de doentes com PPc e em doentes com outras patologias pulmonares, recorrendo a um antigénio recombinante sintético (ARS) de P. jirovecii previamente desenhado como ferramenta antigénica pelo grupo de investigação em Protozoários Oportunistas/VIH e Outros Protozoários do Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical, e aplicá-lo no desenvolvimento de uma plataforma imunoenzimática de diagnóstico da PPc. Para tal, no presente estudo foram colhidas secreções brônquicas e saliva de 85 doentes adultos com patologia pulmonar, que recorreram aos serviços do Hospital Egas Moniz para execução de broncofibroscopia, entre os meses de fevereiro e julho de 2018. Todos os doentes participantes assinaram um consentimento informado. As secreções brônquicas foram utilizadas para efetuar o diagnóstico laboratorial padrão da PPc, por imunofluorescência com anticorpos monoclonais e nested-PCR, e para categorizar os doentes em três categorias distintas: doentes com PPc, doentes com infeção assintomática por P. jirovecii (colonizados) e doentes sem infeção por P. jirovecii. Verificou-se que somente 4,8% da população analisada correspondia a doentes com PPc (infeção sintomática) e que não existia uma diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os níveis de IgA anti-P. jirovecii detetados nos doentes com PPc comparativamente a doentes colonizados (assintomáticos) por P. jirovecii (p=0.593) ou doentes sem infeção por P. jirovecii (p=0,494), com a técnica ELISA (do inglês, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) desenvolvida. Contudo, os títulos médios de anticorpos IgA anti-P. jirovecii detetados na saliva de doentes com infeção por P. jirovecii foi superior ao detetado nos doentes sem infeção por P. jirovecii. Assim, considerando o benefício que trará para o doente e para o controlo clínico desta doença a possibilidade de utilização deste tipo de amostras para diagnóstico da PPc, um novo estudo com uma amostragem mais equilibrada entre as categorias de doentes deve ser feito, por forma a se reavaliar a aplicabilidade das IgA secretórias no diagnóstico desta patologia.
Pneumocystis jirovecii is a fungus with high-genetic variability, tropism and specificity for the human lungs, able to cause interstitial pneumonia (PcP) in immunocompromised patients. Actually, the diagnose of PcP requires the collection of invasive biological specimens and the visualization of the microorganism through time-consuming and costly techniques. Therefore, new approaches for PPc diagnosis should be developed to reduce the overall cost and time, and to use non-invasive biological specimens. IHTM’s investigation group on Opportunistic Protozoa/HIV and Other Protozoa has developed a synthetic recombinant antigen (SRA) specific for P. jirovecii, able to detect, with good specificity and sensitivity, IgM and IgG anti-P jirovecii antibodies in serum specimens. Based in these preliminary results, the group decided to assess the use of this SRA as antigenic tool to detect IgA anti-P. jirovecii in saliva specimens. The IgA it’s an immunoglobulin that exists in bodily secretions such as saliva, tears, and mucus, making this specimen very attractive for non-invasive diagnosis of PcP. The aims of this thesis consisted on the evaluation of the IgA anti-P. jirovecii levels in saliva from patients with PcP and patients with other pulmonary disorders, using the SRA produced previously as an antigenic tool, and the development of an immunoenzymatic platform for the diagnosis of PPc. In this study, bronchial secretions and saliva specimens were collected from 85 adult patients with pulmonary disorders, who performed bronchofibroscopy at Egas Moniz Hospital between February and July 2018. All participants signed an informed consent. All bronchial secretions were used to perform the standard laboratory diagnosis of PcP, by immunofluorescence with monoclonal antibodies (IFI) and nested-PCR, and to categorize patients into three distinct categories: patients with PPc, patients with asymptomatic infection by P. jirovecii (carriers) and patients without P. jirovecii infection. Only 4.8% of the analysed population had PcP (symptomatic) and no significant difference was observed between the levels of IgA anti-P jirovecii across patients in each of the three groups (p=0.593 for comparison between patients with PcP and carriers; p=0,494 for comparison between patients with PcP and patients without P. jirovecii infection) with the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) developed. However, the average levels of IgA anti-P. jirovecii detected on patients with P. jirovecii infection were higher than those detected in patients not infected by P. jirovecii. Therefore, it is suggested that a new study should be carried out, using more balanced sampling methods across the different categories of patients, in order to reassess the applicability of secretory IgA in the diagnosis of PcP.

The diploma thesis deals with contextual advertising with a view to Google AdWords. The aim of the thesis is to build a Google AdWords account for a non-profit organization TJ Sokol and to evaluate successfulness as well as potential of these form of advertising in non-profit organizations. In theoretical framework there is a definition of contextual advertising, briefly described its history, principle, advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore there are various contextual advertising systems in Czech Republic compared to each other. The thesis focuses in detail on Google AdWords system description from the initial account creation to its basic parts -- campaigns, ad groups, keywords, ads and conversions. This part also deals with the connection to web analytical service Google Analytics. The account creation for non-profit organization TJ Sokol is described in practical section of the thesis. The preparations which needed to be done, account development and account optimization are mentioned in this section as well. Final Google AdWords performance evaluation is generalized to small non-profit organizations and general recommendations for effective and successful ad campaigns are made based on this evaluation.
