Based on the long-term studies of water regime of the Oka River floodplain and its left tributary, the Pra River, the data on maximum water levels during the floods at the Ryazan gauging station have been summarized. According to the series of observations a downward trend in the maximum water level from 1945 to 2010 was revealed. During the years of maximum spring floods, backing of the Pra River by the Oka River waters reaches a distance of more than 160 km upstream. Mining has been the main economic activity since 1980 and is classified as Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Activity. However, since 2000s there is evidence of contamination by heavy metals in water and sediments due to irregular mining practices and inefficiency environmentals regulations. Despite the evidence, there are not enough scientific studies, and few reports are published about chemistry and contamination. The study goa

On February 25, 2009, OCP Ecuador S.A. faced its first incident; an oil spill consisting of 11,700 barrels of heavy crude oil in an area of high biodiversity in eastern Ecuador. An earth movement caused stress in the pipeline causing its breakage. The temporarily impacted area covered 30 hectares of soil and gravel along 180 kilometers of three rivers that form the high watershed of the Amazon River; these rivers are the Santa Rosa, Quijos and the Coca. During the emergency, while workers rallied to contain the spill and clean the affected area, other workers took safety precautions regarding

This paper approaches the retrofit in the bridges system of the “Alca Viaria,” or ring road, built in the early 2000s in the Metropolitan region of Belem, in the Brazilian state of Para. The ring’s route is 87 kilometers (km) long. It connects the Southwest and South of the state region to the metropolitan region. It also crosses the three rivers of Amazon’s delta in the state of Para: Guama River, with 1,975 m in crossing extension; Acara River and Moju, both with 860 m in crossing extensions. The retrofit of structural systems takes place from the high incidence of impact between barges and

Bogotá is the capital of the second most biodiverse country in the world. However, it presents situations of conflict between its watercourses and its urban environment, which leads to loss of biodiversity and increasing water pollution. The depletion of natural resources due to urban pressures is today one of the fundamental issues to be faced by urban planning. For this, an ecosystem perspective allows us to value urban rivers and their way of interacting with the city. The Tunjuelo River, coming from the Sumapaz Páramo, crosses the south of Bogotá. Asia has experienced widespread transformation and growth, accompanied by increased demographic pressure, greater intensification of agricultural production, industrialization, and urbanization. This economic growth has been very resource- and carbon-intensive, while climate change has triggered or exacerbated behaviors and defense mechanisms that have come at the expense of the natural environment. Therefore, we examine and compare three Asian Development Bank (ADB) projects in two member countries of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation: one in the People’s Republic of China (PRC)
