The importance of practical activities has been outlined in many articles and research studies. This study presents the way in which two novice and two expert teachers conduct practical activities in their intermediate phase in Natural Sciences and Technology (NST) classrooms and the challenges they face. This study was conducted in primary schools because researchers such as Mihret (2014, p.2) believe that "primary level science education is a cornerstone to lay a foundation to get young citizens interested in science". Assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Research by the Assessment Reform Group (ARG) (1999) and others has shown that assessment for learning, or formative assessment, is one of the most powerful educational tools for promoting effective learning and improving performance. Assessment for learning (formative assessment) and summative assessment form part of most national education policies and is advocated in the Namibian curricula. Abstract:
Previous studies of dairy cattle have indicated that heifers and cows in hot, cold and moderate weather had different patterns of sexual activities. The purpose of this study was to compare distribution of sexual activities within estrus of dairy cattle. Three groups of lactating cows in hot, cold and moderate weather and a group of heifers in cold weather were observed. Estrus for each individual was divided into 12 equal periods. Sexual activities for 3 and 6 hours before and after estrus were also observed. The numbers of mounts and distribution of total sexual activities was analyzed. Moun

Abstract:
Video is a massive amount of data that contains complex interactions between moving objects. The extraction of knowledge from this type of information creates a demand for video analytics systems that uncover statistical relationships between activities and learn the correspondence between content and labels. However, those are open research problems that have high complexity when multiple actors simultaneously perform activities, videos contain noise, and streaming scenarios are considered. The techniques introduced in this dissertation provide a basis for analyzing video. The primary contrib

As interactive systems are now used to perform a variety of complex tasks, users need systems that are at the same time expressive, efficient and usable. Although simple interactive systems can be easily usable, interaction designers often consider that only expert practitioners can benefit from the expressiveness of more complex systems. Our approach, inspired by studies in phenomenology and psychology, underscores that non-experts have sizeable knowledge and advanced skills related to various expert activities having a social dimension -such as artistic activities-, which they gain implicitl

Abstract:
Early embryo losses are characterized by a large infiltration of cnacrophages and NK-cells in the decidua surrounding resorbing embryos. This infiltration is combined with a high expression of interferon gamma (IFNgamma), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha), and inducible nitric oxide mRNA in the maternal tissue. After receiving proper priming (IFNgamma) and triggering signal (lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or TNFalpha), decidual macrophages can secrete TNFalpha, nitric oxide (NO) and other cytotoxic molecules that could potentially damage placental cells and consequently compromise embryo surviv

This thesis studies novel outdoor and indoor positioning technologies enhanced with wearable or body worn motion sensors to recognize daily activities. In gerontology and geriatric medicine, it is fundamentally important to be able to detect changes in physical, psychosocial, and cognitive outcomes over time. In this thesis, intelligent systems for assessing aging changes were discussed. By utilizing novel technologies and methods, efficiency of home care services can be improved. The studied concept enables early detection of changes in functional ability and daily performance. As a research

Abstract:
A structural relationship between gonadotropic hormones and certain types of enzymes has been suggested in previous studies and an investigation into the possibility of enzymatic activity associated with the gonadotropic hormones has been the primary focus of the research presented in this thesis. Partial sequence homology between human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and α-chymotrypsin prompted the recent proposal of a tertiary structure of hCG using α-chymotrypsin as a folding template, which suggested the possibility of intrinsic peptidase activity associated with hCG. Highly purified hCG (CR1

The concept of evolving components of an artificial intelligence (AI) has seen increased interest in recent years as the power and complexity of AI has grown. In entertainment software, this AI can impact the player's experiences and enjoyment through elements such as the level of difficulty of the player's competition. Therefore AI development is an important research topic, especially as development is considered difficult by the video game industry. This work applies the evolutionary computing paradigm to a turn-based domain by evolving team strategies. These strategies are represented as b
