Abstract:
Globally there is a serious need to equip children and young people with knowledge, attitudes, skills and values to assist them in making healthy lifestyle choices. Life skills education is possibly among the most important answers to the problems and challenges many young people are faced with. Life skills programs are being developed to address the alarming increase in high risk health behaviours among adolescents. According to international research, Health promotion is a critical life skill to acquire, since health impacts on almost every facet of a person and their society. The South Afri

The mining, agricultural and energy sectors, along with the Department of Water Affairs (DWA) are critical role players in managing South Africa’s water resources. Water resources are under increasing pressure due to continuous population growth and economic development. It is critical to adopt a management policy that can lead to sustainable water supply. The National Water Act, 1998, (Act 36 of 1998), Section 56(1) instructs the Minister of Water Affairs to establish a Pricing Strategy for charges for any water use described in Section 21 of the Act. This thesis presents and tests a novel hypothesis that attempts to predict the relative humidity (RH) dependent survival of airborne respiratory viruses in protein-enriched saline aerosols. The hypothesis proposed that virus-laden respiratory aerosols exist in either an effloresced (solid) or deliquesced (liquid) state, depending on the ambient air RH and that the survival of viruses embedded in such aerosols changes with that state. Experiments confirmed as predicted, that rhinovirus and influenza virus exhibited a V-shaped surviving fraction dependence on RH. Implications concerning the surv

This study examined exceptional student educators’ (ESE) personal practical theories (PPTs) and how they impact complex decision-making when it comes to students with disabilities and their families. A case study methodology was selected to explore how four ESE teachers and leaders developed their PPTs as well as how they planned, interacted, and reflected upon decisions made during one workweek. The guiding questions of this study were: what are the PPTs of ESE leaders and teachers, what factors influence the development of PPTs, and how do PPTs impact special educators’ work with students wi
