Abstract:
A large-scale postal survey and six in-depth case studies on information architecture practice were carried out from 1992 to 1994 in the UK. The research findings suggest information architecture to be a useful information systems planning tool. The study further redefines information architecture's core components and concludes that the careful targeting and development of these components – business system architecture, application architecture and data architecture – can contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of information systems planning and implementation.

In this study my intention is to interpret the "discursive" and the "ideological" differences between the architecture of postmodernism and the architecture of globalism. I will point to the paradigmatic differences between these practices and also to some specific "local examples" of execution of social quality by means of architecture being the "cultural instrument" of actualities realization. This study was written by interdisciplinary methodology of cultural studies based on Fuko's discursive analysis and Altizer's ideological analysis of the architectural productions.

Software architectures promote development focused on modular functional building blocks (components), their interconnections (configurations), and their interactions (connectors). Since architecture-level components often contain complex functionality, it is reasonable to expect that their interactions will be complex as well. The research investigates the term innovation and its role in elaborating architectural practice based on diffusion. The complexity of the architectural field compared with other fields shows a problem in explaining how innovations in architecture diffuse as a thought and act in a certain context of practice. Therefore, the research aims to build an intellectual model that explains the way personal thoughts resembled by unique models introduced by creative and innovator designers diffuse in a certain pattern elaborate these models into a state of prevailing thought resembled by the movement in

Deep convolutional neural networks have been successfully applied to many image-processing problems in recent works. Popular network architectures often add additional operations and connections to the standard architecture to enable training deeper networks. To achieve accurate results in practice, a large number of trainable parameters are often required. Here, we introduce a network architecture based on using dilated convolutions to capture features at different image scales and densely connecting all feature maps with each other. The resulting architecture is able to achieve accurate resu

Parametric modelling has been regarded as a prospective skill both in architectural education and practice. It offers capabilities for designers to instantly generate numerous design options and create complex geometries, which can enhance the design creativity. Realizing its potential and capabilities, this study investigates how parametric modelling can be practiced in early architectural education for improving students’ creativity and design skill. The findings of this study are based on the observation of the parametric modelling workshop participated by 150 first-year architecture studen

This is an account of the relationship between architecture and power in Romania during the Stalinist period. A cursory glance at Arhitectura – the only specialist magazine to resume publication after the change in regime – suggests compliance with political direction, and professional interest in translating the theoretical method of Socialist Realism into a specific, culturally localized architectural language. Architecture competitions are a medium of intersection between theory and practice, power and the profession, ideology and economy – a space where political contention based on profes

Modernist architecture is one of the most significant movements which serve as grounds for contemporary creations. At the beginning of the 20th century, the impact of new structural and building technologies allowed designers to find new ways of architectural expression. It is rooted in thought-out composition and simplicity which serve as a background for the exposition of structure. The geometrical interplay of a building’s elements highlights the impressively thin structures and raw surfaces of novel building materials. Nowadays, in selected regions, the architecture of the Modernist Period

Due to the rapid development of computer technologies and trends in digital design, including building information modeling (BIM) and its diffusion into architectural design practice, it was necessary to introduce BIM into architectural curricula in order to prepare students for practice. This article therefore aims to identify scenarios for teaching BIM to architecture students worldwide. To achieve this objective, a thematic analysis of BIM teaching experiences in several selected academic institutions was conducted. The aim of the research is uncovering its influence in contemporary life and defining relation of this phenomenon to the reality. According to this task two hypothesis are formed at the start: ?minimalism in architecture is the same as a simplified architecture? and ?minimalism is a style of architecture?. After analyzing influences and characteristics of minimalism in contemporary space including certain examples from practice, and some case studies of the architectural achievements based on min

The article outlines an alternative type of digital drawing technique for architecture called chromatic mapping. This new procedural drawing technique redefines the theoretical frameworks of digital design practice by manipulating the formal and spatial capacities of data captured in the image. The ensuing discursive and practical changes to architectural design practice deliberately leverage the ability of image-based software to gather, collate and modify real-world data. The pixel is central to chromatic mapping because it is the medium that translates form and space into color. This altera
