This work strives to diagnose and comprehend what happens inside the classroom. The data collecting methodology involved: interviews, directly observation and copies of didactic material used by the students in mathematics lessons of primary schools, at Rio de Janeiro, from the year 2002 to 2004. We analyzed 424 lessons of 116 teachers, making possible the description of main observed lessons´ characteristics using content analyses. As a result, I discuss the practices of teachers in action and identify recurring characteristics, analyzing: the materials and resources selected, the activities used, the relations inside the classroom, the complex problems of teachers, and, finally, the conceptions of mathematics´ teaching that appear to support the practices of the group of teachers studied. The analysis also shows the power of the professional knowledge, built over the practice, and the influence of the experience as a student in the future teacher s formation, showing clearly the existence of a teacher´s culture that preserves acquired conceptions and fits recommendations for change into old practices.

Neoconcretism started spectator participation in art and had in Lygia Clark one of its most important and radical promoters. Lygia was, in great part, responsible for the legacy of neoconcretism for Brazilian art history and for the artists that came up after 1960. In this paper, we will try to show the theory behind Lygia s works, her participation in the movement and the beginning of her proposal for the spectator s participation with the series Bichos.

The purpose of this study consists of an accurate analysis of the psychiatric interview, by combining three perspectives: analysis of the doctor´s routine or interview agenda, which has a standard format and guides the doctor throughout his clinical practice; frame analysis of the doctor´s clinical practice with a focus on the here and now in doctor-patient interviews; and analysis of the doctor´s representations regarding his practice, revealed during interviews with the researcher. Interactional Sociolinguistics, Ethnographic Research and Social Psychology provide the theoretical framework for this study. Hence, a distinction was made between doctor-centered interviews, denoting the voice of medicine, and patient-centered interviews, denoting the patient´s account of his world of experience. The results showed that there are two kinds of interview agendas: those which tend to control the course of the interview, and others which tend to set a high value on the patient´s stories and experiences, providing more spontaneous interactions. During doctor-patient interviews, the doctor introduces framings, which shift from the investigatory/exploratory to the co- construction of the patient´s world of experience, provoking changes in the asymmetrical relationship. Therefore, the doctor adopts a hybrid discourse behavior, that is, on the one hand he controls the patients´ flow of talk in the encounter, and on the other, he fosters a state of talk where patients may express how they represent their world of experience. As the doctor-researcher interviews were analysed, it became clear that the doctor valued patient-centered interviews, moving away from the procedures in the pre-established agenda. The results suggest, however, that+ the doctor establishes an informationcontrolled meta-frame during the here and now in the interview. He manages the information by controlling the turn structure and summing up the patient´s talk, ignoring, many times, the patients´ contributions. In doing so, the doctor ends up using a legitimated institutional power.

Full textThis thesis investigates the preconditions for a new type of migration among the highly skilled between Senegal and the EU, namely circular migration. The three most prominent actors in the shaping of the future migration pattern –the EU (administration), the Senegalese government and the future highly skilled migrants i.e. Senegalese university students –are studied by a combination of social constructivism and critical discourse analysis. The discourses are derived from official EU and Senegalese documents and from a survey as well as from semi-structured interviews with students at the two largest universities in Senegal. The analysis of the discourses shows three factors that point towards a change of the migration practice in favour of circular migration: first, an interdiscursivity between the migration, development and economic growth discourses; second, a resemblance between the three actors discourses on migration; and third, a willingness among all three actors to act for a mobility of knowledge and experience. Consequently, there are preconditions for circular migration between Senegal and the EU.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between the phallus concept and the object a included in the logic of fantasy, as a structure which suggests the relationships established between subject and object. To this end, we decided to draw on the Freudian Oedipus complex, with the contributions from Lacan on the paternal metaphor, to situate the place of the phallus in the subjective constitution. Next, we attempted to investigate in Lacan, with what he retakes on the contributions of Freud’s work, the concept of object a and the ramifications of this theoretical invention which refocuses the concept of the phallus, of castration and, consequently of Oedipus himself. Finally, in defining what the concept of fantasy gives to the possible relationships between subject and object, we attempted to extract some clinical consequences on this response which is built facing the enigma of the Other`s desire.

Following an initial effort to cartograph this new space for psychological practice, interviews were conducted with individuals from newly- created positions. Our findings suggest that psychological care is being conceived mainly as mere psychological expertise and legal sanction.

This thesis attempts to interpret three women’s writings in terms of ecofeminism to reclaim women’s affinity with nature. These three literary works are Sue Hubbell’s A Country Year: Living the Questions, Terry Tempest Williams’s Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place, and A-bao’s Journals of Living in the Mountain: Love Stories between a Woman and the Land. This thesis contains four chapters. In Chapter One, I give a broad overview of ecofeminism and introduce the brief biography of these three authors, literature reviews, and the motivation of this thesis. In Chapter Two, I mainly discuss the representation of patriarchal values in these three books. I explore changes of human-nature connection from the historical background of the west and Taiwan, and then I discuss the hierarchical, dualistic and anthropocentric values from conceptual and empirical women-nature connections. From the analysis, we know that human’s relation to nature is different from the past; that is, humans become unfamiliar with nature. Besides, these three women get frustrated when they try to do something which is different from the most people, and the conflicts between tradition and reality are also unavoidable. In Chapter Three, I mainly discuss these three women’s affinity with nature and their ecofeminist practice. First, I provide the ancient images of Gaia and Nü Wa to remind people of women-nature affinity and women’s social status in ancient times from symbolic connection. They represent women’s potential for bringing about an ecological revolution to awaken women’s consciousness and possible strength in modern society. Second, I discuss the epistemological, spiritual, political women-nature connections respectively. These three women attempt to reverse the dominant epistemology, and to challenge the stereotypes of women in society. Besides, women’s special attunement with the natural world from the spiritual part is also important. I celebrate women’s spiritual consciousness, their biological features, and the natural cycle. Also, the process of grassroots political practices and being with nature is also the learning, healing and transforming process for these three women. Finally, Chapter Four is the conclusion.

Abstract This research takes action research as its research method, and it investigates the course of implementation of life education teaching activities. The major features displayed during the course of these activities were: 1) The influence of the course of learning─which involved reading children’s books and participating in experiential activities─on children’s understanding of: “an attitude of respecting life,” “empathizing with others’ experiences,” “having confidence in your own abilities,” and “the right attitude in facing death;” 2) The role that children’s books played in the course of children’s life education teaching; 3) The interaction between parents, teachers, and students during life education teaching activities. This researcher used 27 kindergarten students at a kindergarten where classes were being taught as the teaching implementation subjects. First, by reviewing the relevant literature, we summed up appropriate life education content for students at the kindergarten level. This content formed the teaching objectives of children’s life education. The design of the teaching activities in this research was mainly taking care of plants and animals. This was complemented with children’s books about life topics, which were used for guidance. During the teaching process, we used observation, interviews, and teaching reflection, etc., as our data gathering methods. One year after life education activities had been implemented, we again carried out interviews with children and parents and asked them to fill out feedback forms. Thus, we were able to understand the long term influence of life education activities on children’s thinking. Our research results are as follows: I.The emergence of children’s notions about life: 1.The concept of respecting life: a.The taking care of plants and animals activities helped to cultivate a respectful attitude towards life in children. b.We cannot overlook children’s observation during these activities. c.These activities had a long-term influence in these children’s life experience. 2.Establishing empathy with others: a.Appropriate introduction of children’s books can help to draw out children’s empathy. b.Experiential activities let children feel life’s preciousness. 3.Having self-confidence: a.Doing things themselves let children have more confidence in themselves. b.Adults’faith in children affects children’s self- confidence. 4.The right attitude in facing death: a.Children’s concepts of death come from their parents and the media. b.Children who had discussed the topic of death before were more cool and composed in facing death. II.The role played by children’s books: 1.Children’s books are the medium that creates teachers’ and students’ common experiences. 2.Children’s books have the functions of providing knowledge, passing on ideas, and emotional guidance. III.Teacher’s realizations from teaching: 1.In the taking care of plants and animals activities, adult demonstrations of behaviors and attitudes were very important. 2.These activities increased children’s care and concern when they met plants and animals. 3.At appropriate times, children’s inappropriate associations or emotional transfers must be guided. 4.The idea of respecting life must be based on what children can sense with guidance and categorization added. 5.Immediate counseling when children face frustrations during the experiential process helps them feel confidence in themselves. 6.Teachers must pay attention to the appropriate season for raising silkworm caterpillars. 7.A child’s domestic upbringing is an important factor in his or her life education. Finally, based upon our research results, we propose recommendations for people working at educational institutions, children’s book publishers, and future researchers.

With medical scientific and technological progress genetic enhancement is becoming a reality that answer the expectations of every parent enabling them to offer their progeny the best starting point, the finest gene and the best capability, so that they have the edge of vigorous competitiveness and development in the next generation.. Once the technique of genetic enhancement is ready, everyone would want to have it implemented. However, though genetic enhancement would fulfill our wishes, there are a lot ethical issues in line. For example, there are worries that it may cause social oppositions, widen the gap between rich and poor, endanger social justice, whether we ought to operate genetic enhancement on embryos, whether it would lead to diminishing the gene pool, whether the autonomy of parents or the next generation be infringed, boundary of genetic enhancement, the handling of the individual in failing cases, its effect of commercialization of life upon human dignity, etc. Before solving these difficult ethical problems, genetic enhancement may bring along unexpected impacts for our society and environment, so if genetic enhancement is to be carried out, it must be critically assessed. For the evaluation of the impact of genetic enhancement upon the earth and our society, we must be very scrupulously in finding out the pros and cons among them. If it provides more interests than drawbacks, genetic enhancement could be supported and could be applied. But if the drawbacks exceed benefits, genetic enhancement must be curded. Taking account of consequences is the perspective of utilitarianism, and hence a good starting for our considerations. Peter Singer, a utilitarian, and his preference utilitarianism and the principle of equal consideration is naturally the best choice for such discussions. His point of view gives weights to the preference of parents, society, and environment and puts the account of interest in genetic enhancement more in focus. This dissertation tries to evaluate the consequences of genetic enhancement from Peter Singer’s perspective, and analyses the impacts of genetic enhancement so as to provide us some points of reference before we launch the practice of genetic enhancement.

Dmitri Borisovich Kabalevsky’s piano works have been widely performed in Taiwan. He is seen as one of the outstanding musicians in the 20th century, as well as a crucial figure in the development of music education. Among a variety of educational issues, he paid special attention to the music education of children and teenagers. The study aims to discuss the details in Kabalevsky’s music education philosophy and analyze his piano works specifically written for children. By music analysis and relevant statistics, the study examines the practice of his philosophy and the inter-connection for future reference in music education and piano learning. From the text-based data it is observed that Kabalevsky’s philosophy has four main points. First, he proposed the concept of “three whales”, which concerns music in three major categories: song, dance, and march. Second, composition for children should be considered from the aspects of composer, educator and academic scholar. Third, he proposed the nature of music as the base for music education, and fourth, he emphasized the importance of a full-scale study of music. The study observes Kabalevsky’s piano works from their background information, musical forms and performing techniques, and analyzes 89 selected children’s piano pieces, including Opus 27, 39, and 89. The result of the study shows that every single piece has its own title and implied style which inspires children’s imagination towards music. Besides, the length of music is often kept within 48 measures, which is short enough to maintain children’s attention during practicing and performing. The spreading range of fingers is set within sixth during the music, which suits children’s palm shape. Also, the music is mainly based on ternary form which provides a simple structure with motivated composing strategies of repetition and sequence. All the above shows that he successfully grasped the characteristics of beginner and intermediate piano learners and adopted the regularity and pure nature of music in composition which tends to attract children’s interests. Each of the selected pieces requires only one or two techniques, and even scales, arpeggio or stretches are set within three octaves. Besides, the length doesn’t exceed three measures, which makes it suitable for children under development. All the three opuses contain seven different ways of touch in total, which reveals Kabalevsky’s persistency in performing the nuance of piano music even when composing for children. By comparing Kabalevsky’s philosophy and the analysis results of his piano works for children, the study shows the following conclusions. 1.The “three whales” philosophy by Kabalevsky suggests exploring the music through the title and leading students to learn piano through the categories of song, dance music, and march, together with other similar type of music and style. 2.Kabalevsky’s piano works for children are suitable for the characteristics of children’s physical and mental development while taking into concerns of the systematical development of performing techniques and the art of nuance in music; thus, corresponds to his idea that composition for children should be considered from the aspects of composer, educator and academic scholar. 3.Kabalevsky’s piano works for children provides stable and unchanged signature during each piece. The music is mainly based on pure one-part form、binary form and ternary form with major composing strategies of repetition and sequence, which shows his belief of applying the regularity and pure nature of music to music education. 4.Kabalevsky adopted local and foreign ballads in composition for children in order to broaden the vision of music, which corresponds to his philosophy of learning music on a full scale.

The community university is a new kind of institution launched by the educational reform movement in the third-sector. This educational institution aims to liberalize the official knowledge and to revival the civil society in Taiwan. More and more community universities have been established around the island. Such a trend reveals that the adult educational landscape here has been changed. Taking Paulo Freire’s perspective, this study aims to understand the practice of teachers’ pedagogy. Three purposes are as follows: (1) To analyze the framework of thought that the teachers engage in teaching. (2) To explore the teachers'' characteristics and the style of teaching. (3) To suggest ways in which teachers are be able to critically examine educational processes and to improve the practice of pedagogy in future. In this study, two teachers who teach English and philosophy are selected from the community university in Taipei. Furthermore, a multi-method design research including participant observation, interviews, and documentary analysis is set out in order to understand the practice of teachers’ pedagogy on the daily basis. In conclusion, the major findings of this study are: 1.Teachers are engaged in the cultivation of adult learners’ civic literacy through the pedagogical process. 2.The practice of teacher’s pedagogy is not present as value-free. They are confident in critical pedagogy and have a faith in the transformation of learners rather than providing objective knowledge. Also, their pedagogical processes aim to achieve transformation of society and to empower learners. 3.The teachers address that the community university has to link to the wider social environment. They identify that the practice of the community university is for public good. Therefore, the provision of learning opportunities should be relevant to the needs of citizens in order to function in a complex social formation. 4.The curriculum design is characterized either in learners’ own lives or in the social and historical contexts. This kind of theme-based approach lies in the connections of it builds between the topics at hand, the students’ lives and broader world around them. 5.The teachers devote to the principle of dialogue. Dialogic classrooms are organized to promote collective learning. Furthermore, they place on the emphasis of the problem-posing approach and formative assessment in the pedagogical process. 6.The teachers learn educational strategies by solving problems and overcoming difficulties on the daily basis. Moreover, the teachers’ pedagogical theory and practice are inextricably linked within educational process.

Krupskaya is the wife of Soviet Union national founder Lenin. In order to figure out these problems and education system, at the beginning of Soviet Union national founding. It should first grip Krupskaya’s core thought since Soviet Union October Revolution 1917, because she laid foundation for Soviet Union education thought and practice. Soviet Union was founded on the basis of Marxism. It emphasized a key point which avoids capitalism system manipulating production relation. And the mode of production to narrow and dominate human being situation. In order to form “wholly developing human being”, it should break up the above-mentioned system. So the object of Bolshevik after October Revolution is to form socialism “New Human Being” that process communism spirit and morality. At the same time, in order to achieve socialism building, by the way of collective and labor consciousness and education to stimulate self-conscious enthusiasm. Suppose that we should attained the goal, education must offer service for political ideology, Krupskaya’s main publication is “National Education and Democracy” which is not only the first book written on the basis of Marxism in educational history but also the induction of combining education and labor and Comprehensive Poly-technical Education. It’s an approach for concrete practice and educating “New Human Being”. In addition, at the beginning of Soviet Union foundation, the country faced multiple constructive problems and whole dramatic change. In order to accelerate educating high quality “New Human Being” to cope with problems, meanwhile, Soviet Union educators positively tried to look for an education theory and practice that was suitable for their own country. In spite of the above-mentioned was originated from Soviet Union tradition, or learned from other Western countries experience, the key person also was Krupskaya who was surrounded by the core theme. Therefor this study tries to use education, educational history and educational philosophy research approaches to combine with the current problems reflections. This study adopts historical research and Hermeneutics methods to do a systematic research about the education thought and practice of Krupskaya. It tries to find the following enlightenment. (1) At the beginning of the Soviet Union national founding, Unified Laboring School System was established, it caused longsighted education turbulence. (2) At the beginning of Soviet Union national founding, because of practicing comprehensive education, it was insufficient for students to grip knowledge. (3) This is a Russia progressive educators connecting with Western progressive spiritually. Finally, by the way of Post-Soviet Union period to comment Krupskaya’s education thought which enlighten us contemporarily. The above mentioned induces the followings that the new type talented should have three characters: plural general talented, problem solution, communication integration. However a century ago, Krupskaya proposed that the “Comprehensive” was almost nearly the spirit of “general knowledge”. Nowadays it is similar to the freshmen in university or college which nondescript department adopts so-called comprehensive education. From the positive viewpoint, it is able to encourage the integration and naturally extend learning vision. That is to say how to grip the education thought of “learning methods”. It is worthy to study and do further researches.

The purpose of this study was to explore a secondary science studentteacher''''s reflective practice. The guiding questions were: (1) What did theparticipant teacher reflect on? (2) What kind of processes were involved inher reflection? (3) What factors affected her reflection? (4) Had plansresulted from her reflection been put into her teaching practice? Qualitative research methods were adopted in this study to investigate thecontext and events that occurred in the life of classroom. Data were collectedthrough pre-lesson interviews, classroom observations, post- observationinterviews, stimulated recall, post-lesson interviews, and relevant documentcollection. Constant comparative method was used to analyze the data and toconstruct the results, which were validated by triangulation in terms of diffeent types and resources of data. The results indicated that when the student teacher used directinstructional methods during the first semester, the major themes of herreflection included the strategies she used to facilitate her students''''learning, her own ability to teach, and the role she played in teaching; andthen when she used cooperative learning methods for instruction during thesecond semester, the representations of pedagogical content knowledge andstudents'''' roles in learning became the main themes of her concerns. Besides, the content of her reflection had shifted from reflection on aspects of one'''' spractice to reflection on one''''s practice as a whole. The process of herreflection was triggered by feeling unsatisfied with present teaching setting, then she framed the problematic situation and proposed plans for furtheraction. To take her teaching practice and context for granted was the maingthat kept her reflection from being triggered. Additionally, lack of relevantprofessional knowledge and practical experiences made her unable to frame andreframe the messy context. If the plans resulted from her reflection appearedto be specific strategies that could solve the problems she had met, she wouldput it into practice immediately; on the other hand, if the ones she proposedwere just to refine the existent routines rather than to change the wholepractice, she would probably not execute them because of external constrains, forgetting, and laziness. Suggestions based on the findings were alsopresented.
