Abstract:
The goal of this thesis is the development of theoretical methods targeting the implementation of topology optimization in structural engineering applications. In civil engineering applications, structures are typically assemblies of many standardized components, such as bars, where the largest gains in efficiency can be made during the preliminary design of the overall structure. The work is aimed mainly at truss-like structures in civil engineering applications, however several of the developments are general enough to encompass continuum structures and other areas of engineering research to

I seek to generate imagery that investigates relationships between disorder, structure, and energy.

Abstract:
This thesis concerns the use of the Bird- Meertens Formalism as a mechanism to control parallelism in an imperative programming language. One of the main reasons for the failure of parallelism to enter mainstream computing is the difficulty of developing software and the lack of the portability and performance predictability enjoyed by sequential systems. A key objetive should be to minimise costs by abstracting much of the complexity away from the programmer. Criteria for a suitable parallel programming paradigm to meet this goal are defined. A dominant theme in histories of twentieth century women's politics is the argument that there have been two 'waves' of high profile activity and unity: the pre 1914 suffrage Movement and the post 1960s Women's Liberation Movement. As a result of this historical temporality, the years 1918-68 have generally been presented as a period of longterm decline in women's politics. Since the late 1980s, research on women's politics in the interwar years has begun to challenge this consensus. However, there has been limited re-evaluation of women's political organisation in the 1940s and 1950s. Existin

Complexity arises often due to the large scale character of a process, i.e. a pulp and paper mill which can be composed by thousands of control loops. A critical step is the choice of the control

The phenomenon of prior knowledge is deep rooted in the rhetoric of education. There is much discourse within pedagogy about its value and pivotal role in the formulation of new learning. While researchers provide a multitude of definitions of prior knowledge, no one has examined its elemental structure in a way that provides a model for teachers to use and support learning.
