Abstract:
Parish clergy and religious change in Prague's diocese from Council of Trent till the end of the 17th century The religious change that happens in Bohemia in the 17th century has no equivalent in the Europe at this time: the whole country, where Catholics were in a very minority, comes back to the roman Church. This evolution is here seen from a very prosaic point of view: how lay people live this change, and so how acts the parish clergy in this matter. Conversion's strategy, at the end of the Council of Trent, was to permit the use of the chalice to the laity. The consequence of this permission was a very hazy situation in the parishes, but Holy See did nothing before the battle of White Mountain, and after the battle, he suppressed chalice, mainly for pastoral reasons. During the Thirty years War, the kingdom is the place of a general reform, which has its origins in the catholic missionary movement of the beginning of the century and in the political theories of this time. Bohemia is strongly marked by the war that acts as a catalyst; at the same time political and religious authorities were lacking. The inhabitants, usually just formal Catholics at the beginning, convert themselves more and more deeply during the 17th century. The eldest, who remembered the non-Catholics services, died during the...

Trojan, David. "Tobiáš z Benešova (z Bechyně). Biskup - Hospodář - Politik." Master's thesis, 2021. http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-448697.

Abstract:
Anotation The Bohemian kingdom lost its ruler and shortly after that the throne of St. Adalbert lost its bishop; Tobias of Benešov (bishop 1278-1296, known as Tobias of Bechyně) succeeded Jan III. in hardly enviable conditions under the regency of Ota's V. of Brandenburg. Despite that (or maybe thanks to that) he succeeded in continuing the reform of the Diocese of Prague not only in the ecclesiastical management, but also in settling the individual bishopric's districts' issues of property and economic. A set of more than 200 formularies, also known as The Formulary of Tobias of Bechyně, as well as further first-hand or indirect sources, allow us to recognize those issues. This section comprises of an economic history in a narrower sense and also the history of settlement, archaeology and other related branches. As the name suggests, I intend to view Tobias' personality mainly from three essential points of view - firstly as an administrator of the diocese who is responsible for the condition of his subordinate and entrusted clergy, secondly as a responsible administrator of a large property domain and finally as a politically active person. The position of the bishop as the head of the local church necessarily depended on his political assets - especially in the kingdom - financial security and the...

Dykastová, Gabriela. "Jan III. z Dražic." Master's thesis, 2017. http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-355739.

Abstract:
The diploma thesis focuses on the period of the episcopacy of Jan III of Dražice. The aim of the thesis is to describe the economic, political and cultural situation on the basis of analyses, description and comparison of acquired information. The thesis presents the personality of the Prag bishop Jan III of Dražice. It also analyse the administration and property of the Diocese of Prague in the second half of the 13th century. Finally, the thesis focuses on the political activity of the Prag bishop during the government of king Ottokar II. of Bohemia, the court of Jan III and his travel itinerary. The conclusion of the thesis is the recognition that during the period of the episcopacy of Jan III of Dražice the administration of Diocese began to be reorganized, two new episcopal castles were built, the episcopal office started to work and the property of Diocese did not increase. In comparison with the bishop of Olomouc Bruno of Schauenburg, Jan III was not so politically active in the royal policy.

Abstract:
The diploma thesis describes the development of St. Anne and St. Lawrence Dominican convents in The Old Town of Prague during early modern period (mainly in the 17th and the 18th centuries). Both the indoor life and contacts with outside world are included in the description. Only three topics of the above-mentioned specialization could be seamlessly elaborated due to fragmentary sources. The introduction and first three chapters constitute a summary of sources and literature. Furthermore, they chronologically depict the history of the Dominican order and the particular convents. The fourth chapter deals with the relationship between the nuns and their dependants in the municipality of Radlice. The system of servile taxes withdrawals and visitations of the monastic farms are emphasized. The chapter finally records a concrete discord between the convent and Barbora Wlaška in the 16th century. The fifth chapter focuses on baroque sermon that were held during ceremonies of admission aspirants among the other nuns. The preachments were analyzed in light of their contents and spiritual thoughts. The last chapter studies the performance of the archiepiscopal authority to the convents in the 18th century and the relationships between the Dominican nuns and aristocratic families or bourgeoisie in the...
