The fiddler crab, Uca splendida (Stimpson, 1858) has been synonymized under Uca crassipes (White, 1847) since Crane(1975). Studies of specimens from the Hong Kong type locality and adjacent areas of China, Taiwan and Vietnam showthat U. splendida is a valid species, with a characteristic suite of carapace and gonopod features as well as a distinctcytochrome oxidase I (COI) signature. Two specimens of the rare Amarsipa fish, Amarsipus carlsbergi, were collected from Pratas Island in the northern South China Sea. They represent the first record of Taiwanese EEZ and fill the distribution gap in the northwestern Pacific Ocean between Japan (East China Sea) and Vietnam. The two specimens were identified based on their diagnostic characteristics, including no pharyngeal sacs, a pelvic fin well in front of the pectoral fin, a slender body and other morphology. Detailed data and descriptions of these two specimens, including a description of otolith morphology, are provided.

The satellite-derived aerosol optical depth (AOD) data is used to investigate the distribution of aerosol over the South China Sea (SCS). High correlation coefficients are found between in situ AERONET data and satellite AOD measurements around the SCS with the highest coefficient of 0.9 on the Dongsha Island (i.e., Pratas Island). The empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis of AOD over the SCS shows that high AOD is always found around offshore areas of China, Indochina, Sumatra, and Borneo. Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter examines languages as a third point of entanglement that has both spatial and temporal ramifications while at the same time being sites where domination is both sustained and disrupted. It starts by describing the linguistic reality of the islands in the seventeenth century discussing how the plurilingualism that existed caused challenges for the narratives, which had to abide to contemporary aesthetics. The analysis show that travelers engaged with languages as praxes and were forced into conceiving languages as processual constantly changing in relation to other language

In this chapter, the book moves into the twenty-first century to examine a changing Cuban Miami where the majority is made up of US-born generations and more recent arrivals since 1994. It historicizes the prominent role of radio in Cuban Miami—specifically the conservative genre of exile talk radio—and then considers comedy bits performed on the Enrique y Joe Show and The Enrique Santos Show. These radio programs sat at the top of Miami’s charts throughout the 2000s.
