Abstract:
The fiddler crab, Uca splendida (Stimpson, 1858) has been synonymized under Uca crassipes (White, 1847) since Crane(1975). Studies of specimens from the Hong Kong type locality and adjacent areas of China, Taiwan and Vietnam showthat U. splendida is a valid species, with a characteristic suite of carapace and gonopod features as well as a distinctcytochrome oxidase I (COI) signature. Genetic work shows that U. splendida belongs to a well-supported clade and is thesister species of U. crassipes. The distribution of U. splendida is restricted to continental East and continental SoutheastAsia, in

Since 2008, "crisis" discourse has emerged as one of the key issues for practicing anthropologists. According to a review of the field of practicing anthropology in 2009, practicing anthropologists made substantial contributions on topical areas like fiscal, ecological, and human crisis and relevant issues, like civil rights and displacement among others. At the same time, they have turned to action-orientated anthropological research with varying degrees of collaboration with the communities they study (Brondo 2010). As anthrologist on welfare, I am in a position to comment directly on the deplorable conditions and procedures involved in receiving public assistance. My recommendations for alternate approaches to managing recipients are based upon my personal experiences at the Long Island City Human Resource Administration (HRA). They include serious changes in procedure and attitude. The latter is always the harder to change, especially when social workers come from a value system that reflects middle-class sensibilities and the work ethic.

The Cayos Cochinos, a set of two small islands (Cayo Menor and Cayo Mayor) and thirteen coral cays located off the north coast of Honduras, are picturesque in their postcard beauty. A Google search brings up descriptions of the islands as "diamonds in the rough," "a divers' and snorkelers' paradise," "the most stunning scenery ever to behold," "a private paradise." The archipelago's beauty is undeniable, yet the costs of "protecting" its natural attractions are high, especially to the Afro-indigenous Garifuna who have relied on the area's resources since their arrival in the early 1800s. When I visited him I always looked forward to his bedtime stories about Jews in different places and to his accounts of his own experiences and travels. The first time I went to Chincoteague Island, Virginia, was during their peak tourist season. Vacationers buzzed around on motor scooters and bicycles, and the streets were lined with beach shops selling T-shirts, saltwater taffy, beach towels featuring horses and dolphins, and other usual beach town fare and souvenirs. One shop stuck out at me, however, and I had to check it out. I stopped at a garage attached to a small home with the word Decoys written on the outside, and a couple of crab pots and a neon Open sign by the garage door. Inside I found shelves with wooden birds, and a man came
