Robust and highly accurate localization using a camera is a challenging task when appearance varies significantly. In indoor environments, changes in illumination and object occlusion can have a significant impact on visual localization. In this paper, we propose a visual localization method based on an ellipse-ellipsoid model, combined with object-level instance topology and alignment. First, we develop a CNN-based (Convolutional Neural Network) ellipse prediction network, DEllipse-Net, which integrates depth information with RGB data to estimate the projection of ellipsoids onto images. AbstractThe regional seismic travel time (RSTT) model and software were developed to improve travel-time prediction accuracy by accounting for three-dimensional crust and upper mantle structure. Travel-time uncertainty estimates are used in the process of associating seismic phases to events and to accurately calculate location uncertainty bounds (i.e. event location error ellipses). We improve on the current distance-dependent uncertainty parameterization for RSTT using a random effects model to estimate slowness (inverse velocity) uncertainty as a mean squared error for each model parameter.

Abstract:
This paper is centered on the guidance systems used to increase the autonomy of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). The new Robust Reactive Static Obstacle Avoidance System (RRSOAS) has been specifically designed for USVs. This algorithm is easily applicable, since previous knowledge of the USV mathematical model and its controllers is not needed. Instead, a new estimated closed-loop model (ECLM) is proposed and used to estimate possible future trajectories. Furthermore, the prediction errors (due to the uncertainty present in the ECLM) are taken into account by modeling the USV’s shape as a tim

In this paper, the three-dimensional shroud contact kinematics of a shrouded blade system is studied. The assumed blade motion has three components, namely axial, tangential, and radial components, which result in a three dimensional relative motion across the shroud interface. The resulting relative motion can be decomposed into two components. The first one is on the contact plane and can induce stick-slip friction. The other component is perpendicular to the contact plane and can cause variation of the contact normal load and, in extreme circumstances, separation of the two contacting surfa

This study evaluates ecological vulnerability of the wood-grass ecotone of northeast China integrating the spatial analysis technology with algorithms. An assessment model of ecological vulnerability is developed applying the Analytical Hierarchy Process. The composite evaluation index system is established on the basis of the analysis of contemporary status and potential problems in the study area. By the application of the evaluation model, ecological vulnerability index is calculated between 1990 and 2005. The results show that ecological vulnerability was mostly at a medium level in the st
