Abstract:
This thesis provides a new method for statistical inference on system reliability on the basis of limited information resulting from component testing. This method is called Nonparametric Predictive Inference (NPI). We present NPI for system reliability, in particular NPI for k-out-of-m systems, and for systems that consist of multiple ki-out-of-mi subsystems in series configuration. The algorithm for optimal redundancy allocation, with additional components added to subsystems one at a time is presented. We also illustrate redundancy allocation for the same system in case the costs of additio

Abstract:
Software reliability, one of the major software quality attributes, quantitatively expresses the continuity of correct service delivery. In current practice, reliability models are typically measurement-based models, and mostly employed in isolation at the later stage of the soft ware development process, after architectural decisions have been made that cannot easily be reversed early software reliability prediction models are often insufficiently formal to be ana- lyzable and not usually connected to the target system. We postulate it is possible to overcome these issues by supporting softwa

As technologies continue advancing, semiconductor devices with dimensions in nanometers have entered all spheres of human life. This research deals with both the statistical aspect of reliability and some electrical aspect of reliability characterization. As an example of nano devices, TaOx-based high k dielectric thin films are studied on the failure mode identification, accelerated life testing, lifetime projection, and failure rate estimation. Experiment and analysis on dielectric relaxation and transient current show that the relaxation current of high k dielectrics

Along with continuously increasing computerization, our expectations on software and hardware reliability increase considerably. Therefore, software reliability has become one of the most important software quality attributes. Software reliability modeling based on test data is done to estimate whether the current reliability level meets the requirements for the product. Software reliability modeling also provides possibilities to predict reliability. Costs of software developing and tests together with profit issues in relation to software reliability are one of the main objectives to softwar

Helicopters are highly dependent on their transmission systems, which provide the vital links from the engines to the rotor and ancillary systems. Components are highly loaded and must be manufactured to a high degree of accuracy; the lack of redundancy implies that this is a 'series-chain' system. Existing techniques for calculating expected life are based upon historical data from different gearbox and helicopter types, thus limiting the confidence of the results. Design techniques may be conservative in some areas, whilst neglecting to consider different load patterns, usage, maintenance an

Over the last 35 years many statistical models have been proposed for the quantitative evaluation of software reliability. All the existing reliability models show a wide variability in predictive validity across data sets. In this thesis, we discuss several Non-Homogenous Poisson Process (NHPP) models comprehensively. A theoretical review of these models is provided. For the two types of data, count and time data, the likelihood equations are obtained. We then generalize a very popular existing Software Reliability Growth Model (SRGM), the Littlewood model. The mathematical expressions of som
