Abstract:
A pitch-control predictor-corrector ascent guidance algorithm has been developed and evaluated for a rocket-based upper stage of a two-stage-to-orbit launch vehicle. Detailed descriptions of the predictor-corrector algorithm and a neural network loop modification are given. The mission requirement is insertion into a stable 50 x 100 nmi orbit at 375,000 ft altitude, coasting toward apogee at a positive inertial flight path angle. Three degree-of-freedom trajectory analysis is performed using the Program to Optimize Simulated Trajectories (POST2). Results of Monte Carlo simulations includin

Abstract:
Stability and efficiency (i.e. derivative function evaluations per processor) are the two main considerations in deriving good numerical methods for ODE's. The underlying challenge is to increase the stability region while maintaining or even improving efficiency. To achieve this, some extensions of predictor-corrector based methods, which apply a fixed number of corrector iterations, are considered. This thesis studies two particular members of a family of methods called the Parallel Block Predictor-Corrector Family, which are based on these extensions. These two members are called PBPC/2 and

The algorithm was implemented in C++, MATLAB and CUDA, using double precision for numerical stability. Fracture data for cast aluminum alloys, such as fatigue life, tensile strength and elongation, are heavily affected by the structural defects, such as pores and bifilms. There have been numerous studies in which either fatigue performance or tensile deformation were characterized and linked to casting defects. However, a comprehensive study that correlates tensile and fatigue properties has not been reported. The present study is motivated to fill this gap. The main objective o

Abstract:

Abstract:
Atmospheric monthly forecast is intermediate between medium range forecast, an initial value problem, and seasonal forecast, a boundary value problem. The influence of sea surface temperature (SST) on the atmospheric dynamics in the time range of 10-40 days is still not well understood. As a consequence, there is no common approach for the representation of the SST in a monthly prediction system. At ISAC-CNR in Bologna a monthly ensemble forecasting system is run experimentally once a month, based on the GLOBO model. GLOBO is an atmospheric general circulation model developed at ISAC. Th
