Background: Few studies have investigated the association of maternal longitudinal hemoglobin (Hb) with small for gestational age during pregnancy. The current study examined the associations of maternal Hb concentrations and Hb changes throughout the middle and late stages of pregnancy with small for gestational age (SGA) in a large prospective cohort study. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study, which enrolled pregnant women at 8–16 weeks of gestation and followed up regularly. Abstract Controlled-flow ion chromatography has significantly improved the precision with which inorganic sulfate (SO4) can be measured in serum. In this study, we have shown that serum SO4 is increased in pregnancy. The increase appears to follow gestational age, resulting in a 39% higher value by the middle of the third trimester. We suggest that this increase is a natural physiological process, which enhances SO4 availability to the growing fetus and placenta.

More and more women in the United States are choosing to delay motherhood until their 30s or even 40s. Yet traditional medical advice warns against midlife pregnancy, predicting a variety of adverse reproductive outcomes associated with “advanced maternal age.” Assignment to a high-risk category may result in heightened feelings of concern about pregnancy complications among midlife mothers. Because it is possible that increased emotionality during pregnancy may itself give rise to various childbearing complications, some middle-aged women may become victims of iatrogenic stress during pregnan

Ultrasound is the first imaging modality used for evaluation of adnexal lesions. On ultrasound large non-adnexal lesions can be confused as adnexal lesions causing a diagnostic dilemma, rendering use of cross-sectional imaging mandatory. We present a case of middle-aged female who was diagnosed with a right adnexal lesion (possibly malignant) on ultrasound, but on further evaluation was found to be suffering from a benign non-adenexal etiology.

Adolescent pregnancy rates in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are high and reducing these rates is an indicator for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Enabling contraceptive use amongst sexually active adolescents is an important way to help address this. Most interventions tend to focus on providing contraceptives and family planning services or information and education to encourage girls to use contraception. However, these interventions do not usually address the broader factors that affect girls’ ability to access and use contraception. Structural interventions are those that ad
