Abstract:
The effect of preheating Amberlyst-15 catalyst used for the biodiesel production reaction of Karanja oil was studied. The preheated Amberlyst-15 samples were characterized for their surface area and pore volume and by SEM, TGA and FTIR spectroscopy. A preheat temperature of 473 K was found to optimum. At this temperature, the surface area had increased and the sulfonic acid groups of Amberlyst-15 were retained. At 473 K preheated Amberlyst-15 gradually deactivated with reuse from a biodiesel yield of 85% to 27% in four runs at a reaction temperature of 393 K and methanol to oil ratio of 60:1.

Limited supply of fossil fuel makes biodiesel as one of the major solution for this current situation. However, in using biodiesel and its blends as fuel had created few problems such as poor fuel droplet formation and atomization that consequently result on lots of carbon formation deposit on the valves and injector choking. These problems occur due to the effect of higher viscosity of the biodiesel and its blends itself. This paper reviews the recent research on

AbstractThis study meticulously examined the impact of preheated tallow biodiesel on the performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine. Employing a single‐cylinder, water‐cooled diesel engine configured with exhaust gas recirculation in this investigation, exhaust gas temperature (EGT) could be used to preheat the biodiesel, reducing its viscosity and density. This improvement in viscosity and density could enhance the injection process, which is often hindered by the higher density and viscosity of biodiesel compared with diesel fuel. The investigation achieved a peak preheat te

Biodiesel is becoming increasingly popular as a substitute fuel for compression ignition (CI) engines because of its comparable characteristics to those of diesel and its little environmental impact. The development of diesel engines that run on biodiesel and reduce emissions of pollutants, while also improving thermal efficiency, are key concerns in engine design. The most crucial prerequisites for achieving these are precise and quick air-fuel mixing. However, biodiesel's viscosity is considered a drawback for its application as a substitute fuel for IC engines. Heating can greatly lower the

The aim of the present research work is to investigate the influence of Jatropha biodiesel properties on various characteristics of a direct injection compression ignition engine. The experiments were performed at different engine operating regimes with the injection timing prescribed by the engine manufacturer for diesel fuel. The engine characteristics with Jatropha biodiesel were compared against those obtained using diesel fuel. From the results, it is observed that the biodiesel performance and emissions are lower than that of diesel fuel. However, the NOx emission of Jatropha biodiesel i

Fossil fuel is getting exhausted at a fast rate and contributes to high carbon monoxide emissions. Biodiesel, being environmentally friendly, has better performance than diesel. Castor oil is an easily available vegetable oil in India. But its high viscosity leads to blockage of the fuel lines. The amount of free fatty acid more than 1% leads to soap formation which necessitates the biodiesel production in a two step process. The first step of acid catalyzed esterification process reduces the free fatty acid content of castor oil to below 1%. The second step of transesterification process conv
