Abstract:

Tetrapleura tetraptera, also known commonly as Prekese or Aidan fruit in Ghana and Nigeria, respectively, is noted for its use in herbal preparations. The fruit in particular is employed as an ingredient in traditional medicine and as a spice across West-Africa. The seed, which forms part of the fruit, is discarded together with the spent fruit. This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical composition as well as the biological activity of the hexane and ethanol extracts of the prekese seed. Seeds of Tetrapleura tetraptera trees have poor germination due to their hard and impervious seed coat. This research was conducted to determine the possibilities of reducing seed dormancy using seed pretreatment via the application of sulphuric acid and hot water and then phosphorus for better seedling growth. Seeds pretreated with sulphuric acid had a significantly (P˂0.05) increased germination rate (by 60%) compared to seeds pretreated with hot water (40%). Im Beitrag werden die Ausprägungen von sozialstruktureller und symbolischer Marginalisierung infolge von Wohnen in prekären Quartieren untersucht. Auf Basis der Konzepte der Surplusbevölkerung sowie der territorialen Stigmatisierung werden am Beispiel von drei Immobilien der Universitätsstadt Göttingen multidimensionale Abwertungsprozesse analysiert.
