This thesis reports a study on the melt impregnation and weaving of glass/PP pre-preg tapes into sheet for use as the precursor for pressed thermoplastic composite products, and a comparison of the properties attainable with those achievable by other comparable routes. Melt impregnation has been used successfully to manufacture well-impregnanted tapes of polypropylene and glass fibres, with and without coupling agent. It appears that weaving could be an economically viable process for converting unidirectional tape into a press-formable pre-preg.

Approximately 50 percent of retained bolls increased in size by October 15. This treatment permitted single-harvest by October 3 with a loss of 64 pounds of lint per acre when compared to traditional double harvest. The paper is focused on the Predator-Prey model modified in the case of harvesting one or both populations. Firstly there is given a short description of the basic model and the sensitivity analysis. The first essential modification is percentage harvesting. This model could be easily converted to the basic one using a substitution. The next modification is constant harvesting. Abstract:

In the first half of this thesis, I have focused on predator ability to locate prey using olfaction and how prey aggregation and turbulence affect prey detection. In chapter 2 I investigate the ability of three spined sticklebacks to compensate for loss of visual cues by using olfaction and find that they can use olfactory cues but that these most likely help the fish detect prey rather than locate prey. In chapter 3 I explore the effect of prey aggregation as an anti-predator strategy when avoiding an olfactory predator and find that aggregated prey survive longer than do dispersed prey. In o

The Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) are a group of invariably fatal neurodegenerative diseases which manifest in a broad range of species. At present, the causative agent of the TSEs remains unknown. The only disease-specific macromolecule identified to date is a protease-resistant abnormal isoform (PrP<SUP>Sc</SUP>) of a protease sensitive normal host-encoded glycoprotein (PrP<SUP>C</SUP>). The interrelationships between species composition, resource-use and availability, breeding and competition were studied in two hill habitat raptor communities in a conserved reserve and an unprotected communal land in Zimbabwe in 1995 and 1996. The conserved Lonestar Study Area (LSA) and the unprotected Communal Land Study area (CLSA) had 38 and 31 raptor species, high and normal diversities for the area sizes respectively.
