CenteringPregnancy is a model of group prenatal care that replaces routine, individual prenatal care. The program brings women together into small groups to receive their care and prenatal education, and is based on three components: risk assessment, education, and support. The model is client-centered, designed to empower pregnant women and support persons, and involves the woman in small group discussions of 8-10 other women of similar gestational age. The group discussions provide support, help women educate each other, and invoke self-monitoring. Currently, there have been few publications

Abstract:
This dissertation studies Oregon primary care physicians' attitudes toward health care reform. Two models of reform are examined: one, health care rationing such as that proposed by the Oregon Health Plan (OHP); and, two, support for national health insurance (NHI). This work examines the necessity for changing the present health care system, traced from the early origins of the medical profession to the present day health care "crisis." The high cost of health care is examined and an overview of the OHP is provided, including citations from John Kitzhaber, M.D., author of the plan. Overall, O

This thesis describes the development of a curriculum for a prenatal breastfeeding workshop and the randomized controlled trial that was completed to test the hypotheses that the workshop would have a positive influence on maternal breastfeeding self-efficacy and that increased self-efficacy would positively affect breastfeeding duration. Breastfeeding self-efficacy, measured with the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form, and breastfeeding duration, recorded as number of days and amount of breastfeeding, were measured at 4 and 8 weeks postpartum. The results of this study suggest that

Initially viewed as a means of health promotion and advancement of wellness in developing countries., it was soon to be adopted by industrialised countries to assist in relieving the demand on acute care services. This was to be achieved through education of the community towards good health practices and the preparation of nurses to practice in the community, outside of the acute care environment Australian nurses were slow to respond to this philosophy of heal
