Abstract:
Background: Unani Medicine had its golden past in the middle age. Allopathic medicine evolved with simultaneous exploration of modern scientific development. Discovery of chemicals and antibiotics to deal infectious disease led foundation of epitome of modern medicine. There is however growing tendency among people to show their to depend on plant source and time old preparations. It is estimated that about 80 percent of population of the Asia and African countries uses herbal medicine for health care. This scenario opened the scope and merit to evaluate the preparation(s) which people are still using and the present study tested the usefulness and safety of ‘Sarbat Misali’ an Unani hematinic preparation in treating anemia.Materials and Methods: A total 31 women of age 24-40 yrs were enrolled in the study following ethical guidelines. The volunteers offered the choice and were free to refuse for not being included. Anthropometry recorded and blood sample obtained for biochemical test from the consenting subjects and prescribed with the preparation. Weight recorded and blood samples taken at the baseline end of four weeks. During study period they were in touch for their allegiance to taking the test preparation. Hemoglobin was estimated using autoanalyzer. Serum creatinine and SGPT were determined by standard biochemical method using autoanalyzer. Results: Blood hemoglobin level showed significant increase at the end of the supplementation (12.03±0.82) compared to the baseline level (10.78±1.08) (p<0.001). Serum creatinine and SGOT did not show any statistical difference between before and after supplementation. Conclusion: Data concluded that Sharbat Misali an Unani preparation of hematinics improved hemoglobin level and safety was supported by the fact of unaltered hepatic and renal functional status, however, to conclusively comment on adverse and toxic effect(s) chronic study needs to be undertaken with attention of inclusion of exhaustive biochemical markers.Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science Vol.17(1) 2018 p.144-148

The school’s task is to motivate and activate students to learn and work on themselves. Unfortunately, we still have too many teaching elements and unambitious tasks at school. That is why modern school education needs another transformation, which is forced by digital media, modern information technologies and related media convergence processes. A contemporary school should develop the passions and interests of its students. The digital environment cannot be underestimated, as it is an attractive non-school place for adolescents. In the article I present the theoretical outline of the concept of convergence and describe key forms of convergence. I conduct discourse in the area “Contemporary school versus media convergence” and present the results of my own research on the preparation of teachers and students to operate in the era of media convergence.

In the process of physical education with preschoolers, the teacher must solve educational and health tasks. For the health effects of fitball-aerobics on the body of preschool children, the teacher must to follow the basic principles of physical education, select the optimal characteristics of the equipment (size, color, elasticity of fitballs) taking into account the age of children, rationally dose the load. One of the promising health technologies for the development of motor skills of older preschoolers is step aerobics. Particular attention should be paid to the selection of musical accompaniment, use the game form of step aerobics, imitation exercises, select different forms for classes, etc., taking into account the age of children. In the process of tourism, it is important to interest children in the use of new equipment for them, a certain story (for example, treasure hunt), the use of interactive methods, game forms and more. To solve educational tasks, focus attention of preschoolers to the need for mutual assistance, discipline, courage, and so on. The outlined recommendations should be used in the process of preparing future teachers for the implementation the modern pedagogical technologies in physical education with preschool children.

Abstract:
Today in Ukraine and in the world there is a tendency to increase the age of both primiparous women and women, which delay the birth of the second child. This creates certain risks with regard to the increase in the population of women of reproductive age the frequency of extragenital pathology and diseases of the female genital area, in particular, infectious genesis. In this regard, correction of the vaginal microbiocenosis at the stage of pre-conceptual preparation acquires special significance. The aim of the study to evaluate the effectiveness of the drug Depantol for the treatment of nonspecific vulvovaginitis at the stage of pre-conceptual preparation. Under supervision there were 45 women aged 24–32 years. The diagnosis of non-specific vulvovaginitis verified according to the clinical and laboratory methods of the study. All patients was prescribed the drug Depantol by 1 suppository 2 times a day for 10 days. Treatment efficacy was evalued according to the clinical and microbiological examination before treatment, and at 1 and 3 months after treatment. As a result of the study, the clinical and laboratory efficacy of the proposed therapy was substantiated. The absence of subjective symptoms after treatment was ascertained, bacteriological study confirmed the effectiveness of therapy in 95.6% of cases. The author of the study notes that the drug Depantol is highly effective in relation to the main pathogens of non-specific vulvovaginitis, which makes it the drug of choice in preconception preparation. Depantol does not interfere with the functional activity of lactic acid bacteria, which contributes to the rapid restoration of the normal biotope of the vagina and creates favorable conditions for conception.

Abstract:
A hallmark of aging is a decline in episodic memory. These memory impairments in older adults may be related to a shift away from proactive control strategies. Previous research, with young adults, suggests proactive processes can benefit memory encoding. The dual mechanisms of control model suggests changes in the recruitment of proactive and reactive control strategies will influence behavioral outcomes. The current study used EEG to investigated proactive control in episodic memory in aging. Both young and old adults completed a subsequent memory task with audio and visual items. Each item was preceded by a modality consistent cue. Participants also completed the AX-CPT, which is sensitive to the use of proactive strategies. We found both younger and older adults recruited proactive processes only for audio trials. Both groups exhibited proactive patterns of performance on the AX-CPT. Post-stimulus EEG suggests younger and older adults recruited different strategies for processing audio items. Visual items did not show subsequent memory effects in the pre-stimulus time period, but both groups showed post-stimulus effects. These results suggest younger and older adults are able to flexibly recruit proactive strategies that benefit memory performance.

Abstract:
Theatre artists and acting teachers throughout history have sought to find and create presence. By combining modern sports science with an understanding of systems of actor training I have suggested an approach that makes presence a trainable skill. My coach Dr. Scott Sonnon, developer of the Circular Strength Training System, has refined modern sports science to emphasize the development and maintenance of flow-state. This state allows the athlete to respond openly and freely within a constantly changing situation.By combining my life long study of acting with my eight years of work with Coach Sonnon I am developing a system to teach actors the skill of cultivating flow. This work will enhance the actor's presence and ability to handle the stress of performance while developing a strong, supple, and coordinated psychophysical instrument. Video of examples of the exercises can be found in the accompanying materials. This work was created in Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac.

Ersoy, Gozde. "Trajectories, thresholds, transformations : coming of age in classic modern fantasy fiction." Thesis, Brunel University, 2016. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/13606.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines and explores the process of coming of age in successful fantasy fiction series, including J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novel and its prequel The Hobbit, Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea series and Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. In particular, it is suggested that the huge popularity of fantasy stems from the fact that it provides a representation of human agency significantly at odds with the everyday experience of an increasingly bureaucratized and financially-determined world. Analysis shows how fantasy texts provide a universal model that help younger readers to understand the process of maturity as individuation and entry into the intersubjective social world. The central protagonists of such texts have to learn to master concepts such as seeing oneself in the other through intersubjective dialogues, objectifying one’s self in the world, and coping with their own battles, in the process of finding their way to maturity. This fictional “quest” or “journey” provides a model for readers to assess their own realities and actions, which in turn has the effect of changing their understanding and enabling them to critique their own lives. It is demonstrated how these classic and widely translated works of fantastic literature, which reach a huge crossover readership, may be understood in terms of parallel transformational stages such as confusion, inattentional blindness, fear, courage and various attempts of learning the need for moderation. Overall, this analysis, comprising the disciplines of psychology, philosophy, anthropology, education, behavioural economics, sociology, media, and history, explores the processes of transformation and maturation within fantasy literature. At the same time, the case for fantasy literature’s uniqueness in its capacity to reveal the mechanisms of human agency is substantiated within a theoretical framework.

Thesis (MA(BK))--University of Stellenbosch, 2004.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Technology as a formal structure has been given pride of place in many developing countries because of its association with modernity and social development. It has been grouped with Science as a force that operates beyond reproach because of its perceived rational and instrumental nature. By surveying current theories of technology, philosophy and technology development modules, I investigate the implications that modern technology and technological artifacts have beyond merely their instrumental role. I will question the current conceptions of technology as a rational, objective force by arguing that technology operates as a force that more often than not produces a variety of unintended consequences as part of its impact on society.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: In menige ontwikkelende lande geniet tegnologie voorrang as ‘n formele struktuur weens die verbintenis daarvan met moderniteit en sosiale ontwikkeling.

"Tax collecting practices : a comparison between antiquity and the modern age." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/60527.

Abstract:
South African policymakers are challenged by the limited resources that can be consulted in the field of tax policy proposals that address the needs of the public. Despite the importance of studying tax history as a reference for modern tax systems, decisions regarding current tax collection policies in South Africa have not been informed by effective historical policies. It is imperative that historical tax policies be studied to identify tax policies that produced the desired or intended results, which could then serve as a benchmark for South African tax collection policies. The purpose of this study was to compare the current South African tax collection policies with efficacious tax collection policies implemented in ancient China, Egypt, Greece and Rome. Both similarities and differences between the ancient policies and current policies were found and possible improvements that could contribute to optimising the effectiveness of South African tax legislation were highlighted. The research conducted for the purpose of this study confirmed that similarities exist between current tax collection policies implemented in South Africa and those implemented in ancient civilizations. One particular improvement that South Africa could adopt is to revise the policy relating to the progressive tax system to ensure that all South African citizens, irrespective of their ability to pay, contribute, as was the case in Ancient Egypt. Processes could be implemented to hold the government accountable for the responsible and transparent spending of tax revenue according to the tax budget, as applied by the ancient Romans. It was also determined that the policies regarding tax refunds should be applied by SARS in terms of the relevant legislation and in the pursuance of a fair and stable tax system. By adopting any of the efficient tax collection policies of antiquity, South Africa could initiate steps to optimise the effectiveness of the tax system.<br>Mini Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2016.<br>Taxation<br>MCom<br>Unrestricted

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Choosing the proper maintenance strategy when scoping a coatings project is difficult, and potentially costly if incorrect procedures are utilized. This is especially true for steel bridges with millions of square feet of coated surface to be repaired and coated. For the last 30 years, bridge coating maintenance has been dominated by the desire to remove lead coatings from existing structures, followed by the application of Zinc/Epoxy/Urethane or other modern coatings systems. These modern coating systems are now reaching the age where major maintenance is required, and the decision must be made regarding how much coating to retain, and what methods will be used to clean and paint. This paper presents results of field and laboratory testing of alternative approaches to maintaining an Organic Zinc/Epoxy/Urethane bridge coatings system. Maintenance alternatives evaluated during this project include degrees of power tool cleaning (e.g., SSPC-SP 3, SSPC-SP-15, and SSPC-SP-11), spot/sweep blasting (SSPC-SP 18) and a near white metal blast (SSPC-SP 10). In addition to alternative surface preparation techniques, the relative value of spot zinc versus spot epoxy priming during maintenance painting were evaluated. (Spot zinc refers to painting of zinc primer to areas of localized bare steel). Data and knowledge presented in this paper will allow for other maintainers and owners of steel structures decide proper maintenance strategies for their bridges.

Coagulation factor preparations became available in the treatment of hemophilia about twenty years ago, followed by the introduction of prophylactic therapy and home-treatment. The purpose of our longitudinal study was to quantify the impact of these treatment modalities on the medical and social situation of hemophiliacs. We carried out three mail surveys (1972, 1978 and 1985) among Dutch hemophiliacs. In 1985 we sent questionnaires to 1162 of the estimated total of 1300 patients with a response of 81%. Eighty-six percent of the respondents had hemophilia A, 14% hemophilia B; 41% had severe hemophilia (&lt;1%) 19% moderately-severe (1-5%) and 40% mild hemophilia (&gt;5%). Growth of prophylactic therapy and home-treatment for severe hemophilia was The mean age increased from 21 yrs in 1972 (n=435) to 29 yrs in 1985 (n=935)(general male population: 34 yrs). The number of manifest bleedings decreased from 25 in 1972 to 15 in 1985, with a corresponding decrease in the number of transfusions for acute bleedings. Hospitalization per 100 patients with severe hemophilia decreased from more than 2100 days in 1972 to 440 days in 1985. Non-attendance at school caused by hemophilia dropped from 6 to 2 weeks per year, and sickleave from work from 35 to 15 days per year, so that it now equals sickleave among the general male population. Unemployment figures for hemophiliacs were similar to those for the general population, but disability figures are still higher. Our study shows in a quantitative way that the benefits of modern hemophilia treatment are impressive and that its costs are more than justified.

Abstract:
The task of conducting a space-based multicolor photometric all-sky survey of high and moderate brightness stars with an emphasis on high accuracy and uniformity of measurements was formulated a long time ago, but remains in demand to this day. It was assumed that such survey would be carried out on board of the ISS (the Lyra-B experiment), but due to the end of the station's operation in 2028-2030 its preparation was stopped. An application has been submitted to conduct a similar survey on board of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS). However, ROS is noticeably different from the ISS; one of the main differences is the sun-synchronous orbit of the station. This article discusses in detail the changes that need to be made to the scientific equipment of the experiment and the methodology of a survey when transferring location of the experiment from the ISS to the ROS. The benefits and disadvantages of the new experimental location are considered.

Abstract:
Making the most of daylight in town planning is one of the important ingredients in the attempts for the sustainable city. Exactly 150 years ago Ildefons Cerdà presented his great work “Teoría General de la Urbanización” including methods for taking care of sunlight. However, with modern software, the possibilities to do comprehensive preparations are much better. This paper presents an urban typology considering daylight with basic geometric forms, shapes and patterns. Later this will be elaborated more in detail. The research includes three steps; choosing typical alternatives for settlements and designing some new principle urban solutions, calculations and evaluations of the alternatives considering especially energy saving. The quality and the quantity of daylight are dependent of the geometry of the urban spaces. That means the volumes for the buildings as well as the empty spaces in between. The accessibility for diffuse daylight from the sky and for direct rays from the sun is measurable by computer calculations where the sun angles and the skylight from the hemisphere are simulated. Relevant parameters are height, width and length. In a settlement with a high urban density it is more difficult to distribute daylight than in a settlement with low density. However the economy for exploitations is also worse with lower density. Therefore the comparisons between different settlements are with the same density. The orientation of the settlements according to the compass is of crucial importance looking to the direct sunlight and the shadows. How the local environment with parks, water, mountains and specific landmarks in the surroundings also affects the daylight distribution is included.References (100 words) Dubois, M.-C., Gentile, N., Amorim, C., Osterhaus, W., Stoffer, S.,Jakobiak, R., Geisler-Moroder, D., Matusiak, B., Onarheim, F. Abstract:
The article is devoted to youth preparation for family life issue and the necessity in gender approach application for this issue in the domestic scientific discourse. The relevance of the problem in gender aspect is highlighted from the perspective of the working group of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine development of “Strategy of Gender Equality in Education”. Based on references to the publications of educators and psychologists, it was concluded that scientists consider the problem of youth preparation for family life, mainly from the point of psychological readiness of young men and women to fulfill marital obligations. In the pedagogical aspect, scientists focus on creating pedagogical conditions and using the system of educational influences on the formation of youth readiness to start a family. The analysis of the views presented in the scientific discourse on the youth preparation for family life issue gave us grounds to find a few contradictions between the psychological and pedagogical consideration of the problem and the modern life realities. Traditional notions of the family are in significant transformation state. The approaches proposed by psychological and pedagogical thought are aimed to preserve traditional notions of the family which do not stand the test of time. In the system of youth preparation for family life, the authors identified a few gender issues: education according to traditional role behavior models, the effect of hidden curriculum in education, pressure on girls about marriage, the system of requirements for the role and "place" of women in the family according to her status (daughter, wife, daughter-in-law, mother), etc. It is suggested that science should be more flexible on this issue and should propose models and approaches that ensure the sustainable development of the State (including in demographic terms) while guaranteeing fundamental rights and freedoms, including the right to free development and self-realization without discriminatory restrictions

To consider the characteristics of the levels of formation of professional readiness of future specialists to pedagogical diagnostics of quality of education. Diagnostics of levels of formation of professional training of future teachers is realized through a number of research methods: observation, testing, interview, analysis of the results. The basis of the diagnostic systems research on three-level assessment scale, supplemented by «high level», which allows to adapt to local conditions and to enrich the features of a particular region. Analysis of modern works on the organization of control of educational achievements of students; the log books of progress and attendance of students in classes, conversations with teachers and our own observations have proved that in educational practice there are different models of the organization of control of educational achievements of students in pedagogical disciplines and professional subject training, validation should be carried out using various schemes and scales of evaluation present different approaches to the calculation of rating of students (in some cases even within the same University) and others. The analysis proved that the existing complex control tasks and tasks for independent work is only seventy percent of jobs differentiated by professional orientation, the rest of the job for the overall development of pedagogical competence of students. In our opinion, well developed task, that is, those that consist mainly of problems of professional and pedagogical orientation that enhance future teachers ‘ motivation to learn pedagogical disciplines. The quality of education becomes the main reference point that determines the credibility and competitiveness of educational institutions on regional, national level and international arena.

Abstract:
The article deals with the formation of informational and digital competence of high school students. First and foremost, the existing digitalization strategies for society already approved in the world and in Ukraine, including the implementation of STEM education and the Digital Agenda, are considered. On the other hand, attention is paid to the inconsistency of the level of ownership and frequency of use of digital technologies with the requirements of these initiatives. The concept of informational and digital competence is analyzed in detail. Existing publications identify key components, skills and competencies required to achieve this competence. A survey is conducted to better understand the current situation. One of the tasks is to determine the level of use of digital information in the classroom by teachers and in students’ preparation at home. The second task was to show how developing students’ informational and digital competence can be done by active introduction of existing software and hardware in the educational process in physics, in particular, a laboratory workshop. The example of laboratory work carried out in educational institutions shows how modern software can be used to analyze the movement of bodies and determine the physical characteristics of this movement. The concrete ways of performing laboratory work, analyzing its results and drawing conclusions are given. It is in the combination of existing teaching practices with modern gadgets, specialized and general programs that the basic way of forming informational and digital competence is seen. Further ways of modernization and improvement of described methods for increasing the level of information and digital competence are proposed.
