Abstract:
Buildings are considered prominent objects for understanding the pattern of growth in an urban setting. Remote sensing technology plays a vital role in facilitating data generation pertaining to various urban applications. Digital surface models represent the elevation of the earth surface features, and can be obtained from stereo images, radar, laser scanning, and so on. Photogrammetric techniques applied to optical stereo satellite images are economical and fast ways to generate height information of buildings. In this work, a quantitative and qualitative analysis of digital surface models generated from Cartosat-1 stereo images is compared with openly available data. The study finds that it is possible to acquire about 50 percent of building heights with acceptable error limits. The experimental results indicate that the quality of height information is suitable for applications to assess urban development at a macro scale, but not for individual building-level modeling.

Abstract:
The types and characteristics of phase change materials were discussed. With respect to application in building materials, the PCM should have more attractive properties including high latent heat values, stability and proper melting point, inflammability, corrosiveness and supercooling. Phase change building material (PCBM) was prepared using vacuum absorption method and tested by means of Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) and Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM). The testing results have shown that organic PCM was absorbed into the holes of inorganic carriers completely and distributed evenly with stable performances. It is concluded that the composite PCM has steady temperature-adjusting function and the preparation means is acceptable.

Abstract:
The whole life cycle carbon emission of buildings was calculated in this paper. Based on the whole life cycle evaluation theory, a carbon emission calculation model was established by using a single urban building as an example. The whole life cycle building of carbon emission calculation includes five stages: planning and design, building materials preparation, construction, operational maintenance, as well as dismantlement. It provides a reference for standardizing the calculation process of building carbon emissions by analyzed the carbon emissions and composition characteristics of each stage of the life cycle of the case house. The calculation results demonstrate that the carbon emission during the operational maintenance and building materials preparation stages in the whole life cycle of the building account for 78.05% and 20.59% respectively. These are the two stages with the greatest emission reduction potential.

Abstract:
Latent heat energy storage is becoming more and more attractive for energy conservation of buildings. Phase change materials (PCMs) can be applied in building envelopes to conserve heat energy in building products. The technology of PCMs is efficient and economical due to the rising cost of fossil fuels and environmental concerns. In this paper, binary organic/inorganic nano-composite PCM by intercalation compound is prepared, preparation conditions are studied systematically; and structural analysis and characterization of performance are conducted. The results obtained show that a good potential for heating and cooling is in building through nano-composite PCM and overcomes weaknesses and deficiencies of pure PCMs. A simple modification of binary organic/inorganic nano-composite PCM is discussed firstly. Secondly, the various influencing factors of thermal storage capacity are discussed. The optimum experimental conditions for preparation of organic/inorganic nano-composite PCM are, 55%~60% for the content of organic substances, 5h for the preparation time, 70~80°C for the preparation tem. and 60~120 mesh for the best granularity of composite PCM.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper draws from more than 25 years of research with aspiring and practicing educational leaders to present six strategies for building a culture of feedback in schools, teams, districts, professional learning opportunities, and other educational settings. These strategies reflect key elements of the authors’ new, developmental approach to feedback. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach Through the lens of adult developmental theory, the authors highlight foundational learnings from open-ended survey research with 14 educational leaders about their experiences giving and receiving feedback, and prior qualitative, mixed-method, and longitudinal research with principals, assistant principals, teachers, superintendents, and other educational leaders. Findings The authors share six developmentally oriented strategies for establishing trust and building conditions for authentic, generative feedback: finding value in mistakes, modeling vulnerability, caring for the (inter)personal, clarifying expectations, sharing developmental ideas, and building an infrastructure for collaboration. Practical implications This work has implications for leadership and leadership preparation, especially given contemporary emphases on collaboration and high-stakes evaluations as tools for ongoing improvement, enhancing professional capital, and internal, individual, and system-wide capacity building. Originality/value Because a developmental perspective has been noticeably missing from the wider feedback literature and leadership preparation curricula, this work extends and enhances tenets from different fields (e.g. business, developmental psychology, educational leadership and educational leadership preparation), while also addressing urgent calls for educational reform; leadership preparation, development, and practice; and professional capital building.

Abstract:
In this paper we show the advisability of usage of solar collectors for domestic hot water (DHW) preparation in buildings located in two countries: Poland and Spain. The analysis was conducted for a single-family house with horizontal roof. During the calculations we took into account factors depending on the building location such as national rules, climatic conditions, cost of system installation, and fuel and electricity prices. Based on the total design heat losses and demand for DHW, the demand for usable energy for heating the buildings and DHW preparation was calculated. A gas boiler was selected as the heat source of the building, and solar collectors (flat-plate and vacuum pipe) were chosen as the source of DHW preparation. Installation investment costs and annual operating costs have been stamped. Calculations show that for buildings located in Spain, heat losses were 36.5% lower and the demand for thermal power for DHW was 59.5% lower than for buildings located in Poland. Annual operating costs of the heating installation for both buildings were at similar levels, due to high fuel prices in Spain, while the operating costs of DHW installations were 28.2% higher for locations in Poland. The results show that the use of solar collectors in Poland is economically justified.

Full text
Abstract:
A building’s energy consumption is assessed considering the energy required for heating, cooling, lighting, and domestic hot water (DHW). Methodologies used to calculate energy certificates in European Union countries consider hot water consumption rates per person or per heated (floor) area, giving wide-ranging values (35–88 dm3/person/day). Using extreme parameters, it is possible to obtain a primary energy index that meets the legal requirements, although unrealistically large proportions of domestic hot water use relative to the total energy balance of the building may marginalize the influence of other components, such as fluctuations in heating, ventilation, or lighting. In the current work, the DHW consumption of three residential buildings was measured to verify the energy consumption for hot water preparation. Investigations were conducted based on the consumption of natural gas for DHW preparation. Experimentally obtained water consumption rates were determined per m2 of a dwelling and per person living in the building. The calculated indicators (0.85 ± 0.005 dm3/m2/day and 27.4 ± 1.4 dm3/person/day) were lower than those used for energy certifications of buildings. The experimentally obtained indicators were used in further theoretical energy assessments of six residential buildings. By adopting the designated indicators, the analyzed buildings met the legally required primary energy value (<70 kWh/m2/year) when using natural gas as a heat source. Applying more realistic DHW consumption values resulted in more accurate energy certifications.

Abstract:
A kind of refractory fiber cardboard functioning as building insulation materials was developed. To improve the cardboard abilities to bear high temperature, sepiolite and alumino-silicate fibers were chosen as the raw materials for making refractory fiber carboard. In addition, inorganic adhesives and PVA fiber were used as bonding agents to enhance the physical strength of cardboard. The effect of bonding agents amount on tensile strength of the cardboard were investigated. When choosing inorganic adhesives and PVA fibers as the adhesives, the optimum condition is that amount of aluminum sol and PVA fibers is 30%and 3%-4% by weight, respectively; The best technical conditions for making the refractory fiber cardboard were determined. When the mass ratio of alumino-silicate fibers, sepiolite fiber, PVA fibers is 90: 6: 4, the physical strength of refractory fiber cardboard can be up to 1.556N·m/g. When the bulk density of the cardboard is 305.8kg/m3, the thermal conductivity of insulation cardboard at 200°C is very low, which is only 0.065W/m·K.

Abstract:
In this paper the waterproofness of desulfurization building gypsum had been improved by polyacrylamide(PAM) emulsion. The effect of dosage and molecular weight of PAM emulsion on the physical mechanical properties and waterproofness have been investigated and XRD, SEM have been employed to determine the phase compositions of the material. The results showed that softening coefficient of desulfurization building gypsum increased from 0.34 to 0.69, the compressive strength after soaking in water for 24 h increased from 4.9MPa to 6.1 MPa. The effect of PAM emulsion modification prepared by PAM with molecular 3 million weight of on desulfurization building gypsum are better than with molecular weight of 5 million. The effect mechanism of PAM on desulfurization building gypsum was that PAM reacts with the Ca2+ cations produced desulfurization building gypsum hydration to form the ionic compounds acting as a filler and reinforcement in the porosity of desulfurization building gypsum, and also PAM covered the surface of desulfurization building gypsum particles to prevent the crystallization of CaSO4.2H2O.

Abstract:
In the present work, the detailed mathematical model of a dual air/water solar collector (DAWC) has been developed and experimentally verified. To demonstrate the application of the DAWC, three buildings with different energy performance levels and three building locations were chosen in analyzed case studies. Four solar collector systems were compared with one another. The solar yield of the described systems was determined by simulation using the detailed theoretical model of DAWC. The results indicate that in the case of combining a domestic hot water preparation system and recirculating-air heating system based on DAWC, it is possible to achieve up to 30% higher solar energy yield compared to a conventional solar domestic hot water preparation system dependent on climate and building performance.

The contribution deals, describes and analyzes the fundamental connection between defects and the design of a building. Approximately half of the faults occur in building objects due to incorrect or faulty design activities. The non-conceptual approach to managing building preparation and insufficient and unqualified project design control poses problems with building use and increases the cost of maintenance. Improving engineering design and a comprehensive approach to project preparation and preparation is a way to increase the quality of design work. In his contribution, the author relies on quality management systems and their implementation in design offices and companies. At the same time, the term is a complex project, which would be a control tool for the quality of projection work.

Abstract:
In the context of exploring and implementing China's new urbanization, green eco-city have become a transformation model for urban development. Sharpening green buildings in the construction industry can significantly influence and determine China's economic growth trends, as well as the growth and overall development of its national economy. However, current green eco-city still lack appropriate standards and scientific theoretical basis to determine the target star program of green buildings. To fully implement the green building standards, establish and improve a sound technical standard system for the construction of green building demonstration areas, this study considers the spatial layout of green buildings as the core, adopts a plot potential evaluation method for evaluating a few green building plots, and utilizes four factors in verifying plots with great star potential. The study also establishes a system to calculate the star proportion of green buildings and applies the system in calculating the green building ratio of GM New District. Results indicate that the system can quantitatively analyze a plot potential, calculate the star proportion of green buildings scientifically and rationally, and provide some references for the construction of eco-city and the preparation of special planning for green buildings. The system construction is conducive to provide technical support for the construction of green eco-city. The improved system can be applied in the green building demonstration areas in China, and will be a reference model of constructing green building demonstration areas in the country.

Abstract:
Radiative heat transfer is the most effective mechanism of energy transport inside buildings. One of the methods capable of computing the radiative heat transport is based on the system of algebraic equations. The algebraic method has been initially developed by mechanical engineers for wide range of thermal engineering problems. The first part of the present serial paper describes the basic features of the algebraic model and illustrates its applicability in the field of building physics. The computations of radiative heat transfer both in building enclosures and also in open building envelopes are discussed and their differences explained. The present paper serves as a preparation stage for the development of a more general model evaluating heat losses of buildings. The general model comprises both the radiative and convective heat transfers and is presented in the second part of this serial contribution.
