Full textTHIS STUDY IS AN ATTEMPT TO DESCRIBE THE EVOLUTION OF THE AFRICAN UNION PRESS SINCE THE LAST PERIOD OF COLONIZATION UP TO 1982 CHAPTER I OFFERS A GENERAL SURVEY OF THE TENDANCIES OF THE UNION MOVEMENT IN THE WORLD AND IN AFRICA. IT ALLOWS US TO NOTE THAT THE AFRICAN UNION MOVEMENT WAS ESSENTIALLY AN IMPORTED PHENOMENON AND THAT IT THUS, INHERETED FROM ITS VERY BEGINING THE CONTRADICTIONS AT WORK IN THE UNION MOVEMENT THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE WORLD. CHAPTER II ANALYZES THE UNION PRESS IN THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES BEFORE THEY COME TO INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION. IT THEN SHOWS DIFFERENT RELIGIOUS TENDANCIES, AND IS CRITICAL ON POLITICALISMES. IT IS OF A RATHER GOOD QUALITY AS FAR AS PRESENTATION IS CONCERNED, BUT IN THE MEANTIME CONTINUOUSLY THREATENED IN ITS EXISTENCE. CHAPTER III DESCRIBES THE CHANGES IN THE CONDITIONS OF PRODUCTION OF THIS UNION PRESS, DUE TO THE "INDEPENDANCE" MOVEMENT OF 1960. IT SHOWS ALREADY LESS CRITICAL, AND EVEN MORE PRECARIOUS THAN IT WAS BEFORE : THIS IS A SYMTOM OF THE LOSS OF strengthH EXPERIENCED BY THIS UNIONISM AFTER THE ACCESS OF THE COUNTRIES TO INDEPENDANCE. THE LAST CHAPTER DEALS WITH THE ATTEMPTS WHICH TOOK PLACE IN THE SEVENTIES TO MAKE THIS PRESS EVEN MORE MODERATE. ALTHOU

Full textThis dissertation sets out to assess British trade unions' discourse on the European integration from 1961 to 1992. Providing an abundant empirical first hand material, the unions' journals shed some light on this much debated issue. The corpus is considered from two complementary viewpoints : content analysis and the theory of argumentation. The former aims at quantifying data whereas the latter focuses on the discursive and rhetorical strategies portraying a widely polemical debate. .

Full textConsidered as a neans of information on trade union matters for african workers, the writen press of the colonial era exercise some influence in the pewer struggle through its laudatory comments or critics or moreso through the fate it reserves workers. This study deals with the socio-professional groups comprising salaried workers in the public, mixed and private sectors. It is supported by newpapers bearing general information and by union bulletins printed in the ivory coast between 1944 and 1958. The approach is a reflection on press contribution within the framework of trade union claims and its method is a precise one : inventory of existing newspapers ; inventory of articles dealing with trade union problems published in these papers and which constitutes the corpus ; analysis of the thematic content of press coverage of these problems. It can also be considered as a contribution to studies of different themes concerning the press in the ivory coast

Full textFrom examination of newspapers published between 1890 and 1909, the work has use to a discussion about the Question of Acre, that is the process of annexation of the territory in the Brazil, having as theme the Bolivian Syndicate. The contract to lease of these lands at the international investor group stimulated the production of several journalistic texts, whose reading allows to specify what was the position of the federal Government on the Bolivian region, then occupied by Brazilians, characterizing the borders between the two Nations and recognize what versions the historiography of the Acre has taken on the theme.

Full textMore than any other citizen, the journalist is concerned with freedom. He holds certain keys to liberty and his social responsabilites are paramount in a democracy. The hypothesis that we tried to prove in this thesis is that freedom of press and the public right to information - in order to be defended and consolidated - need to be truly assumed by professionals. These professionals are the teams of newsmen and the journalist'societies. We must cleary define their role, gal, funtiun, social mission as well as their obligation, duty and responsability. Is this work - which has been achieved thanks to the help of leaders of the federation francaise des soietes de journalistes we bring elements that tend, inparticular, to demonstrate the following, it is urgent to create a statute for the press and a code for an efficient deontology since the journalists are highly relying on the power of money, i. E. , the market economy

Full textIn its constitutive period, from 1895 until 1921, what was the position of the confederation generale du travail (CGT), as a "working class" organization - not always a united group, on the major issues of education, including the problems of professional training and apprenticeship, the question of education staffs, mainly teaching staffs? These are the questions that we endeavoured to reply to. Our research tools where congress reports and publications by the organization itself or placed under the responsibility of its main leaders. The research shows in particular that the cgt was opposed to the state monopoly over education and, consequently, its dissent with the republican morals taught in nondenominational schools. It underlines teachers' refusal of what was called "la laïque" (which designates the state primary school system in France) at the beginning of the century, then their acceptance, from 1905, whilst resolutely positioning themselves on the side of the revolutionary minority. It shows how, in 1914, CGT leaders used teacher activists who had died in the first months of the war, to strengthen their participation in the "union sacrée" (holy alliance). The research reveals that the CGT and its national structures had an ambiguous position concerning occupational training and apprenticeship, safeguarding more the interests of qualified workers - constitutive nucleus of the national center, than those of apprentices. . . Finally, the research shows how this period of the French trade union movement, often denigrated today, was creative, inventive of new policies in practically all areas of life, whether economic, social or cultural and hence in the field of education and training. It also shows how it has shaped the culture of the organization. In addition, this culture remains alive today in its activists, even those who feel they have moved away

Full textPolitical pluralism remains an important item of the political evolution in Senegal. This study aims at questioning the reality of the multiparty system, by paying special attention to the social and political environment of this unprecedented experience. What are the factors, actors and appropriate contingencies at stake in such an evolution? Throughout a depiction of the relationships between the then governing socialist party and the opposition parties, between the latter and the spiritual chief families, the civil society, the private press, labor unions and student movements we tried to bring into light the process of the invention of the multiparty system in Senegal. This neo-institutional and strategic approach of our object allows us to show that political pluralism has been deterred from its main goal. Therefore, in order to explain the gap between the status of democratic reference of Senegal in Africa and the endless underground tricks, we chose stress the informal side of its political pluralism. This situation indeed enabled us to understand the various paths taken by this system. It seems today that a superficial multiparty system in its beginnings can find internal resources allowing it to change governments by way of ballot boxes without actually guaranteeing a genuine democratic society. If the organization of the political competition inevitably rests on political parties, it would never ever be optimal without the actual involvement of institutions whose main objective is to ensure that the interests of all fringes of the society are equally defended
