Abstract:

Family centres are established to serve families with children and the personnel usually consists of units of social-workers, preschool staff, paediatric nurses and midwives. The purpose of the study was to examine the social-workers preventive work with families at the family centre. To fulfil the purpose, a qualitative interview with five social-workers was conducted. The theoretical framework referred to attachment and empowerment theory. The results of the study showed that the main part of the work consists of giving advice and support to parents. The social-workers do also organize different group activities. One example of group-work was about teaching parents to interplay with their children. Some work is also carried through in a structural level. The target groups are very varying, and consist of parents with different income, origin and social networks. Furthermore the study showed that the social-workers apprehend that most of their visitors are satisfied with their work. The important possibility united with the social work in a family centre is to meet the families in the beginning of parenthood, and to offer help early. The difficulties consist among other things to collaborate with the paediatric nurses and midwives, and also to claim the importance of their work towards employers and politicians.

Abstract:
The objective of this exploratory descriptive research was designed to investigate the “Relationship Between the level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS and the Practicing of Preventive Behaviors Among African American College Students.” The population was comprised of 40 African American male and female college students ranging from ages 18-25 who attend one of the three African American colleges within the Atlanta University Center. The results revealed that there is a statistical relationship between the level of knowledge this population has about HIV/AIDS and their engaging in preventive behavior. However this relationship is a very weak one. Students know about the various components of HIV/AIDS yet they continue to engage in “risky behaviors.”

Abstract:
This study aims to explore how secondary prevention carried out at a Honduran institution for youth at risk is experienced by its professional workers and former residents. This qualitative research is based on ethnographic approaches conducted at Hogar de Niños Renacer, Tegucigalpa, which is a facility for institutional care of youth at risk. Renacer applies a holistic, multidimensional approach to preventive work by covering various dimensions of youth development such as needs for emotional care, education, and spiritual growth. All research participants claim that positive aspects of Renacer include the provision of such possibilities. The project is constantly developing and accommodates various areas in need of improvement such as acquiring sufficient, competent staff. The majority of individuals who have participated in Renacer‟s project are proven to establish a functioning adult life after leaving the institution.

Abstract:
Denna uppsats har syftat till att undersöka förståelsen kring sexköp ur regionkoordinatorers och samtalsterapeuters perspektiv samt vilka strategier som förespråkas i det preventiva arbetet. För att besvara studiens syfte och frågeställningar har sex semistrukturerade intervjuer med yrkesverksamma inom området genomförts och materialet har sedan analyserats utifrån ett maskulinitetsperspektiv. Resultatet visade att de förklaringsmodeller som professionerna använder för att förstå och beskriva mäns köp av sexuella tjänster är hur sexköpet kan ses som en effekt av könsmaktsordningen, att sexköpet kan vara ett resultat av mäns svårigheter att uttrycka känslor, att sexköpet kan verka som en enkel utväg samt hur pornografin kan sudda ut gränser och skapa fantasier hos män. Vidare visade resultatet att de strategier som professionerna förespråkar i det preventiva arbetet är bemötandet och dess centrala roll i behandlingen för män som köpt sex samt utbildning till barn och unga i frågor som rör jämställdhet, könsnormer och pornografi.
The purpose of this study was to examine the understanding of sex purchases from the perspective of regional coordinators and therapists who work with men who bought sex, and what strategies they advocate in the preventive work. To answer the purpose of this study, six semi-structured interviews were conducted and the material was then analyzed with a masculinity perspective. The results showed that the explanatory models that professionals use to understand and describe men's purchases of sexual services are how the purchase of sex can be seen as an effect of the gender power order, that the purchase of sex may be a result of men's difficulty expressing emotions, that the purchase of sex can seem like a simple way out and how pornography can blur boundaries and create fantasies. Furthermore, the results showed that the strategies that the professions advocate in the preventive work are the treatment and its central role in the treatment of men who have bought sex as well as education for children and youths in issues relating to gender equality, gender norms and pornography.

Abstract:
Since 2014, the National Coordinator has been responsible for protecting our democracy against violent extremism in Sweden. Today, it is clear that the preventive aspect against violent extremism and radicalization cannot be adjusted only to law enforcement. On a national level, the Government has implemented a strategy against terrorism and an action plan to increase the strength of our democracy towards the threat of violent extremism. Every municipality is participating in the national work and network against violent extremism. As a part of the national action plan, the municipalities’ employees, local police, and civil society have the best opportunity to prevent violent extremism. Many municipalities have adopted a plan of actions on a local level, and the employment of local coordinators has increased. However, many of them still have much work left with the implementations, and some have not even started. This case study aims to examine how two different municipalities in Kalmar county are operating with the recommendations from the national level and how they work to prevent radicalization and violent extremism. One of the chosen municipalities has, at this moment, publicly presented a plan of action on how and which institutions should work to prevent violent extremists and the second have not. I will use the following research questions, to study how these municipalities are operating with the recommendations from a national level concerning radicalization and violent extremism. • How do the municipalities implement the strategies and policies on the prevention of radicalization and violent extremism put forward by the Swedish Government? • How do the institutions in the municipalities work with, and how do they assess their work on the prevention of radicalization and violent extremism? To reach a result and understanding of my research questions, a methodology containing an abductive case study with semi-structured interviews was made to collect current and primary information. The findings indicate that collaboration between actors in the municipalities is vital in order to strengthen the democracy and the democratic values that protect our society from violent extremism and radicalization.

Abstract:
Juvenile delinquency is acknowledged as a social problem but the research is often focused to larger cities. The purpose of the study was to elucidate the understanding of professionals of the problem of juvenile delinquency in a smaller town like Örkelljunga municipality. We also wanted to investigate how the understanding of juvenile delinquency is used, is disseminated and contributes to developing practices in the work against juvenile delinquency. To be able to answer the purpose of this study, we decided to do a case study. The selection of interviewees was made through snowball selection and qualitative interviews were conducted. We also reviewed meeting documents from a local project working on crime in the municipality. The conclusion in our study is that the professional social workers in Örkelljunga have created a natural practice that strives to involve and nurture young people into a life without crime. This is done through relationship-building projects in which young people on glide are involved in a context of positive role models.

Abstract:
In this paper I will present my research about different kinds of social workers, and there way of looking at and working with adolescents alcohol use. To get my result, we interviewed eight social workers from four different organizations. The Interview participants were people working with adolescents on their spare time, and in the school environment. There were also participants representing social services and the police. The theory that we have chosen to apply to our thesis is systems theory. The results shows that professionals in Oskarshamn see that high school youth alcohol consumption generates large negative effects on the individual. One of the most complained of the impact of young girls drinking is so serious implications, as different forms of sexual exploitation. The result also shows that the preventive work is the focus of efforts to combat youth alcohol use.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka om föräldrarna uppfattar att deras samspelsförmåga med barnen och varandra förändrats efter genomförd föräldrautbildning, sett utifrån ett föräldraperspektiv. Frågeställningarna är följande: (i) anser föräldrarna att de fått verktyg att hantera sina barn på ett annorlunda sätt efter genomförd föräldrautbildning, (ii) uppfattar föräldrarna att de samspelar med barnen på ett annat sätt efter genomförd föräldrautbildning, (iii) uppfattar föräldrarna att de samspelar med varandra på ett annat sätt efter genomförd föräldrautbildning. Metodvalet är kvalitativt och datainsamlingen har skett med hjälp av ostrukturerade intervjuer. Undersökningspopulationen var sex föräldrar, tre kvinnor och tre män. Urvalskriterierna var att föräldrarna skulle ha genomfört föräldrautbildningen COPE riktade till föräldrar med barn i åldersgruppen 3-12 år. Tolkningsramen utgörs av tidigare forskning och social teoribildning. Resultatet visar att föräldrarnas uppfattning är att samspelet med barnen förbättrats tack vare föräldrarnas egen förändring. Samspelet föräldrarna emellan uppfattades ej ha förändrats i någon större utsträckning.


The aim with this study is to examine whether the parents perceive that their ability to interact with their children and with each other has changed after accomplished parent training. The issues are as follows: (i) are the parents of the opinion that they have been provided with tools to handle their children in a more accurate way after accomplished parent training, (ii) do the parents perceive that they interact differently with their children after accomplished parent training, (iii) do the parents perceive that they interact with each other differently after accomplished parent training. The method chosen is qualitative and the research consists of unstructured interviews from the survey population of six parents, three women and three men. The selection criteria was to choose parents who had participated in the parent training COPE, a training targeted to parents with children from the age of 3-12 years. The interpretation framework is constituted of earlier research and social theory. The result shows that the parents´ perception is that the interaction with the children has improved thanks to the parents own change of attitude. However, the parents do not perceive that the interaction between each other has changed to the same extent.

Syftet med examensarbetet är att öka kunskapen om det förebyggande sociala arbetet med ungdomar i en mellanstor kommun i Dalarna samt se om samverkan i det förebyggande arbetet har betydelse för ungdomars närvaro i skolan. En kvalitativ ansats har tillämpats där intervjuer med sex företrädare från socialtjänsten och skolan utförts. Studiens resultat visar att det bedrivs ett förebyggande socialt arbete med att öka ungdomars närvaro i skolan. Dock framkommer det att brist på resurser så som tid och personal gör att förebyggande arbete inte bedrivs i den utsträckning som företrädarna önskar. De är eniga om att ett förebyggande arbete är av betydelse i arbetet med att öka ungdomars närvaro i skolan. Resultatet visar också att samverkan har stor betydelse för det förebyggande sociala arbetet, då det gynnar ungdomarna om olika samhällsorgan samverkar. Samverkan bidrar till att en helhetsbild av ungdomen uppnås och att de ungdomar som riskerar att utveckla skolfrånvaro kan fångas upp i tid.
The purpose of this study is to increase the knowledge of the preventive social work with adolescents and examine if cooperation in the preventive work contributes to increase attendance at school among adolescents. A qualitative approach has been used, where interviews with six representatives from school and social services has been done. The result shows that a preventive social work by increase attendance at school among adolescents is performed. Though it appears that lack of time and personal resources contributes to the preventive social work is not made in the extent as the representatives would wish. They agree that preventive work is important in the work with increase attendance at school among adolescents. The result also shows that cooperation is of great importance on the preventive social work as it benefits the adolescents if different social authorities cooperative. Cooperation contribute to achieved a comprehensive view of the adolescent and that the adolescents who risk to develop absenteeism can be intercepted in time.

Abstract:
The purpose with this study was to create an understanding of how paramedics have experienced situations where they were exposed to threats and violence, and how the staff described how threats and violence could be prevented. Five semistructured interviews was performed in a mid sized region in Sweden. The main result showed that all respondents, at some occasion, have felt threatened. There have also been situations where they have been exposed to violent events. Patients with certain illnesses could contribute to the feeling of being exposed to threats and violence; although, if the employer had provided education and support in this, then maybe the situations could have been prevented. Our most important conclusion was that there have been little to no preventive work against threats and violence, except for a few courses, although, all respondents felt that experience had the biggest impact for how threatening and violent situations were handled.
Syftet med studien var att skapa förståelse för hur ambulanspersonal har upplevt situationer där de mött hot och våld samt hur personalen beskrev att hot och våld kunde förebyggas. Fem semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes i en medelstor region i Sverige. Huvudresultatet visade att samtliga intervjudeltagare vid något tillfälle hade känt sig hotade, det har också förekommit situationer där de blivit utsatta för våldsamma händelser. Patienter med vissa sjukdomsbilder kunde bidra till känslan av utsatthet för hot och våld, men hade arbetsgivaren gett utbildning och stöd i detta kanske situationen hade kunnat förebyggas. Vår viktigaste slutsats blev att det förebyggande arbetet för hot och våld har lyst med sin frånvaro, någon enstaka utbildning har erbjudits men alla intervjudeltagare menade att det var erfarenhet som hade störst betydelse för hur hot- och våldssituationer hanterades.

Abstract:
This study seeks to understand the perceptions of African American parents on preventive family therapy and their help-seeking behaviors. Specifically, this study aims to identify the factors that influence African American families in engaging in preventive family therapy and the barriers to accessing treatment. The data was collected through two group interviews that consisted of a total of 11 African American parents residing in Riverside County and San Bernardino County. The findings indicate that: (a) African American parents sought therapy primarily for crisis; (b) Alternatives to therapy were viewed as being just as effective; (c) Barriers to treatment include institutional fear, lack of diversity, and stigmatization; and (d) African Americans held positive views of therapy and individuals who received treatment. These findings highlight the perceptions of an underserved community that is disproportionately represented in child welfare and provides practitioners with strategies to develop effective interventions. Recommendations for future social work practice, policy, and research include continued community outreach and mental health awareness campaigns, partnership with faith-based organizations in developing youth mentoring programs, and the need for research centered on current and former African American child welfare clients.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study has been to examine school social workers´ professional practice in order to create an understanding of the opportunities and obstacles that exist for school social workers in their work against cyberbullying. This study has been based on a qualitative method where eight semi-structured interviews with school social workers from different municipalities in Sweden. The empirical data has been analyzed on the basis of previous research and the theoretical framework: professional theory and discretion. The results show that the school social worker´s professional role is characterized by overall job descriptions and a responsibility for adolesecents´ well-being. Cyberbullying appears to be complex and difficult to access, while at the same time it is important to prevent. The school social worker pursues prevention through collaboration with teachers and guardians and through class exercises. Factors that affect the school social worker's opportunities to work preventively are time and school management.

Abstract:
Vårt syfte med denna studie är att få ökad kunskap om och förståelse för vilka upplevelser och erfarenheter de äldre själva har fått i samband med förebyggande hembesök. Metoden vi använt oss av är en kvalitativ intervjuundersökning med halvstrukturerade frågor. Studien genomfördes under hösten 2009 och sex äldre intervjuades.  Av dessa respondenter var det en man och fem kvinnor alla födda 1924.Resultatet visar tydligt att de äldre upplever att det förebyggande arbetet är mycket värdefullt för deras åldrande och vill se detta arbete fortskrida. Alla respondenter påpekade att besöket var en positiv händelse i deras liv och de fick en känsla av att någon bryr sig om dem och vet att de finns.De äldre som tackat ja till att få förebyggande hembesök påtalade att de nu vet vart de ska vända sig den dagen de är i behov av hjälp. De har med hjälp av kommunen fått information och vägledning för att klara av framtida händelser.Vår slutsats är att kommunerna med det förebyggande hembesöket som redskap hjälper de äldre att skapa bra förutsättningar för att bibehålla ett bra åldrande och fortsatt god livskvalitet.
The purpose of our study is to increase our knowledge of and understanding for how elderly may experience preventive home visits.To reach our purpose we have conducted qualitative interviews containing half structured questions. All of our respondents were born in 1924. Six interviews in total, with one male and five females were carried out in the autumn of 2009.The result of the study clearly indicates that the preventive work is appreciated and valuable to the elderly. They wish this kind of home visits to be continued. All respondents claimed that the visit was a positive event in their lives and they got the feeling that someone cares about them and know they exist.The elderly who accepted to receive preventive home visits claimed that they now know where to turn the day they are in need of help. They have with the municipality received information and guidance for coping with future events.Our conclusion is that preventive home care activities give elderly better conditions for satisfactory ageing and for retaining a good quality of life.

Abstract:

The DISA method is a universal program developed for teenage girls to prevent depression. The program includes cognitive behavioral techniques are suppose to change negative pattern of thinking, give practice of communication, strategies of problem solution and exercises to strengthen the social network.

The purpose of this study is to find out how a group of teenage boys were affected by the DISA program and what factors that may have impacted the outcome. Material from three different studies have been used, a quantitative study in terms of data from self-assessment form CES-D, materials from two semi-structured focus group interviews with the boys and material from a questionnaire filled out by the boys on two occasions during the DISA method.

 The result of the CES-D indicates that the boys had less depressive symptoms after the final group meeting compared to the first group meeting and also a year later. Analysis of the material from focus group interviews and questionnaire have been made from a communication theory and systems theory perspective and indicate a shift to greater cohesion in the group and demonstrates that communication between the boy-group and group leaders had importance for the outcome. In particular, this study demonstrates how important group values and norms where for the boys, especially with regard to communication of emotions.

This study explores two key actors when it comes to preventative social work with adolescents, and in what way these actors can have an impact on the adolescent’s drug consumption. The study identifies and focus on the school and social services as two important performers and therefore also key actors. The aim of the study is to explore in what way these actors affect adolescents and how professionals who represent these key actors construct preventative social work with adolescents. This case study does not allow generalization, because of it´s small group of informants. The professionals in this study consists of individuals from the social services and from the school. Previous research focuses on in what areas professionals can affect adolescents, but the social worker´s perspective shines with its absence. All informants illuminate the relational work as a key of success, and how relations postulate their ability to carry out their work. It´s not until professionals have established relationships with their targeted groups, the public can see results of their work. Building relations takes time and continuity, things they don’t always have. To highlight the needs of the professionals is therefore an important issue.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur enhetschefer arbetar med sjukskrivningar på grund av arbetsrelaterad psykisk ohälsa inom offentlig äldreomsorg. Utifrån syftet har fyra frågeställningar bearbetats fram för att utveckla och öka förståelsen till studiens problemområde. Studiens metodval är kvalitativa intervjuer med en hermeneutisk ansats och tematisk analys som bearbetningsmetod. De kvalitativa intervjuerna gjordes med nio stycken enhetschefer från två olika kommuner i södra Sverige. Resultatet visade att enhetschefer har handlingsutrymme att arbeta förebyggande för att reducera sjukskrivningar och att det skiljde sig åt från hur rehabilitering hanteras. Enhetschefer inom äldreomsorgen har tydliga riktlinjer när det handlar om rehabilitering medan det förebyggande arbetet inte har det. Det finns därmed handlingsutrymme för att arbeta mer förebyggande för att reducera sjukskrivningar. Alla respondenter hade förståelse om att det förebyggande arbetet är en viktig faktor för att sjukskrivningar ska reduceras men att tid och antal medarbetare kan försvåra att det förebyggande arbetet prioriteras. The purpose of the study is to investigate how unit managers work with sick leave due to work-related mental health in public elderly care. Based on the aim, four issues have been worked out to develop and increase understanding of the study's problem area. The methodology of the study is qualitative interviews with a hermeneutic approach and thematic analysis as a method of processing. The qualitative interviews were conducted with nine unit managers from two different municipalities in southern Sweden. The results showed that unit managers have latitude to work preventively to reduce sick leave and that differs from how rehabilitation is handled. Unit managers in elderly care have clear guidelines when it comes to rehabilitation while preventive work does not have it. Therefor, unit manager have latitude for working more prevention to reduce sick leave. All respondents understood that preventive work is an important factor in reducing sick leave, but that time and number of employees can make it difficult for preventive work to be prioritized.

Detta är en uppsats som ämnar undersöka vilka arbetssätt och metoder som används av polisen i olika kommuner i Skåne för att förebygga brott mot äldre. Studien ämnar även att undersöka hur polisen arbetar med att sprida brottsförebyggande information till äldre. För att få svar på frågeställningarna används datainsamlingsmetoden enkät - online, som besvarats av kommunpoliser i Skåne. Resultatet visar på att Malmö-, Simrishamn-, Svedala-, Vellinge-, Lomma-, Svalöv-, och Skurup kommun är de som besvarat att deras främsta sätt att sprida information till äldre är genom föreläsningar, kampanjer samt informationsmöten. Svedala-, Sjöbo-, och Trelleborg kommun arbetar med att sprida kunskap och information till äldre genom vården med hjälp av samordnare eller chefer. Utöver dessa arbetssätt har Kävlinge-, Skurup-, Svalöv- och Svedala kommunsamarbeten med pensionärsorganisationer och tar hjälp av dem med att sprida information. Resultatet av vår enkätundersökning visar även på att mer än 50% av respondenterna inte känner till projektet ”Försök inte lura mig”. De kommuner som arbetar efter projektet är Landskrona, Sjöbo, Eslöv och Malmö.
is is an essay which intends to examine the methods and techniques used by the police in various municipalities in Skåne to prevent crimes against the elderly. The study also aims to investigate how the police work to spread crime prevention information to the elderly. To answer the questions, the data collection method that was used is online survey, answered by municipal police in Skåne. The result shows that Malmö-, Simrishamn-, Svedala-, Vellinge-, Lomma-, Svalöv and Skurup municipalities answer the question that their primary means of disseminating information to the elderly is through lectures, campaigns and information meetings. Svedala, Sjöbo, and Trelleborg municipality works to spread knowledge and information to the elderly through care using co-ordinators or managers. In addition to these practices, Kävlinge-, Skurup-, Svalöv- and Svedala municipalities work with retirement organizations and assist them in disseminating information. The result of our survey also shows that more than 50% of respondents do not know the project "Do not try to fool me". The municipalities that work after the project are Landskrona, Sjöbo, Eslöv and Malmö.

The aim of the study is to gain an understanding of how the preventive work of crime relapse practically appears in the Swedish prisons. The aim of the study is also to gain an understanding of the difficulties with the preventive crime relapse work in Swedish prisons. Staff from the field of the Swedish prisons and former prisoners have been the informants of the study. The study is qualitative study and the empiricism has been generated from semi structured interviews. The study shows that the staff is working with preventive work of crime relapse through programmes that focus on the specific crime the prisoners been involved in. One difficulty with this is that prisoners are not are forced to go to the programmes. In the case of short imprisonment it is also hard for the staff to get time to implement programs for the prisoners. The staff at the prisons get educated in motivational interviewing and are supposed to work with motivational interviewing in the everyday meeting with the prisoners. This work is insufficient and does not work in a desirable way. The study also present that the environment at the prisons may have significance for studied subjects, but the budget for the prisons is not enough to frame the environment in a desirabl e way.

There is increasing interest in how people manage the multiple demands of paid work, home and personal life, and the consequences that failure to achieve ‘balance' between these domains may have on health. There has been limited qualitative research exploring the meanings and connections people attach to gender, ‘work-life balance’ and health; this is particularly so for workers who do not occupy managerial or professional jobs. To fill this gap in the literature this qualitative study examined narratives about ‘work-life balance’ amongst women and men working in ‘non-professional’ jobs in a single organisation. Forty semi-structured interviews were carried out with women and men working in administrative, technical and manual jobs within a single organisation based in various cities across the UK. As with the wider labour market, jobs were largely segregated by sex; all the administrative workers were women, whilst all but one of the manual employees were men. The sample included people who worked full-time and part-time, along with participants who also had other employment or were in further education. The sample was diverse in relation to age and family situation. The study was framed within the context of Clark’s (2000) work/family border theory, which aims to explain how individuals balance paid work and family, and construct the borders between these domains. The thesis focused on paid employment, family, leisure, and reported experiences of work-life balance amongst the sample. It concludes by revisiting Clark’s work/family border theory, considering the importance of different domains and borders for this sample, and the role of gender within the theory. The accounts of work-life balance given by these participants differed from those reported in studies of professional employees. Whilst much of the literature problematises paid work as being the main source of conflict, within this sample experiences varied. Due to the relatively low-paid nature of the work carried out amongst the sample, in many instances the necessity of work in providing for self and family predominated over considerations of work-life balance. Borders surrounding the leisure domain were highly permeable, meaning this domain was often compromised by work and family demands. Participants generally held traditional attitudes to gender roles, particularly in relation to the domestic sphere. This influenced choices constructed around paid work, and experiences of work-life balance. Health was not a key concern, although high levels of strain in different spheres, particularly in relation to the home and family sphere, led to stress for some participants.

Det framkommer att arbetsmiljön samt ledarskapet har en stor påverkan på de anställdas psykiska hälsa. Syftet med studien var att genom en kvalitativ metod undersöka hur enhetschefer inom socialtjänsten arbetar för att förebygga stressrelaterad psykisk ohälsa bland sina anställda. Vidare undersöktes också huruvida ett rumsligt nära ledarskap har någon påverkan på det förebyggande arbetet. Intervjuer genomfördes med fyra enhetschefer anställda inom socialtjänsten. Som hjälp vid intervjuerna användes en halvstrukturerad intervjuguide med öppna frågor. Analysen utgick från innehållsanalys samt krav, kontroll och stödmodellen. I resultatet framkom att ett rumsligt nära ledarskap är av stor vikt för enhetschefer när det gäller det förebyggande arbetet. Närhet gör att enhetschefer lättare kan följa med i det dagliga arbete, se när arbetsbelastningen på de anställda ökar samt se hur de anställda mår. Det framkommer också att stöd från chef och kollegor är viktigt för att förebygga stress, då man som anställd behöver känna att man inte står ensam med arbetet. Tydlighet i socialsekreterarens yrkesroll framgår också som en viktig faktor, vilket kan påverkas av god introduktion samt mentorskap vid nyanställning. Handledning, regelbundna teammöten, samtal samt mätning och reglering av arbetsbelastning framkommer också som viktiga rutiner i det förebyggande arbetet.
Social workers are a professional group where there are a large number of sick leaves related to stress-related mental illness. It appears that the working environment and leadership have a great impact on the employees´mental health. The aim of the study was to find out through a qualitative method how unit managers within the social services work to prevent stress-related mental illness among their employees. Furthermore, we also looked into whether a spatially close leadership has any impact on the preventive work. Interviews were made with four unit managers within the social services. At the interviews a semi-structured interview guide with open questions was used as a guideline. The analysis was based on content analysis and the demand, control and support model. As a result of the analysis we came to the conclusion that a spatially close leadership is of a great importance to the unit managers regarding the preventive work. To be near the employees makes it easier for the unit managers to follow the daily work, to discover when the employees´ workload increases and to see the well-being of the employees. It also appears that support from the unit manager and the colleagues is important in order to prevent stress, as employees need to feel that they don´t stand alone in their work. Clarity in the professional role also appears as an important factor, which can be influenced by a proper introduction as well as mentoring for newly employed. Guidance, regular team-meetings, conversations as well as measurement and regulation of the workload also appear to be important routines in the preventive work.

The purpose of this paper is to deeper understand Swedish school counselors’ work to build trustful relationships with pupils and the counselors’ possibilities to discover child sexual abuse. This will be studied, considering that the school holds many different professions. This paper will also look into the social workers opportunities and obstacles in the profession. The result of the study has developed from qualitative interviews with five school counselors where they were asked questions about their experiences and current work situation. The result showed that all of the school counselors had both suspected and discovered child sexual abuse among the pupils. They try their hardest to be as efficient as possible and to build relations, although they consider time to be their biggest obstacle. The economy and the interest principals and politicians take in the counsellors, turned out to have an impact on the priority the school counselors’ work will have.

This interview study presents what social workers consider contributes to young people entering a criminal lifestyle. The purpose is to discover which risk and protective factors social workers think influence whether or not youth develop criminal behavior (both in their environment and in themselves) and how one can help youth who are already involved in crime. The result shows, among other things, that unfulfilled needs (such as love and safety) at home can lead youth to criminal behavior. Judgment from adults can also cause youth to enter into or continue a criminal lifestyle. Protective factors for youth are therefore to have safe adults in their lives, as well as adults who are interested in listening to and understanding their situation. The result is then analyzed using the theoretical concepts of resilience, attachment, defense mechanisms, social learning, and the looking-glass self.
I denna intervjustudie presenteras vilka orsaker som socialarbetare anser leder ungdomar in i kriminalitet. Syftet är att ta reda på vilka olika risk-och skyddsfaktorer socialarbetare anser har betydelse för huruvida en ungdom utvecklar ett kriminellt beteende eller inte (både i ungdomars omgivning men också i ungdomarna själva) samt hur de anser att man kan hjälpa ungdomar som befinner sig i kriminalitet. Resultatet visar bland annat att behov som ungdomarna inte fått uppfyllda i hemmet (såsom kärlek och trygghet) är någonting som kan leda dem in i kriminalitet. Även att ungdomar i riskzonen blir bemötta med fördömelse från vuxenvärlden är något som kan leda ungdomar in i eller upprätthålla en kriminell livsstil. Skyddande faktorer för ungdomen är därför att ha trygga vuxna i sitt liv samt vuxna som är intresserade av att lyssna och förstå ungdomens situation. Resultatet analyseras sedan med hjälp av de teoretiska begreppen resiliens, anknytning, försvarsmekanismer, social inlärning samt spegeljaget.

The aim of the study has been to investigate school counselors' preventive work against bullying in school and what opportunities and obstacles are found in their work. The study is based on seven qualitative interviews where the interviewees have varying backgrounds and experiences surrounding school counselor work. A constant throughout the study is that the school counselor is in a multiprofessional operation and is usually the only profession based in a psychosocial perspective. The school counselor’s tasks are characterized primarily by an overall responsibility for students’ wellbeing, as well as working to prevent bullying. As bullying can result in students performing worse as well as a risk for developing an antisocial behavior, the school counselor’s important preventive work follows. The preventive measures can be seen on a school, class and individual level, which creates a holistic perspective. Factors such as time and resources prevent the school counselor from practicing their knowledge in school, as well as limit their collaboration with other professions. Along this reasoning follows the interviewees’ similar opinions that the principal has a noticeable influence on counseling work and can increase or limit their ability to practice their knowledge. With the help of our theoretical templates we have a better understanding of our analysis, which has helped us understand the school counselor’s role in a multiprofessional operation.

The aim of this study was to investigate how school staff work to counteract sexual harassment and abuse of children, 6 to 16 years of age, online and in real life. The aim of this study was also to investigate the role of norms and norm-creating processes regarding sexual harassment and abuse in school staff’s stories. This study is based on nine semi-structured interviews, conducted with school staff such as teachers, social educators and counselors, who work in primary school. The study's theoretical starting points are norm- critical analysis, professional theory and the masculinity theory. Results showed that school staff mainly use norm-critical conversations. These conversations aim to involve students to reflect on their role in the establishment of norms. Through discussions, lessons and value exercises, school staff question destructive norm systems, students' behaviors and attitudes, what is okay and what is not. The staff lacks routines for how to deal with sexual harassment and abuse that takes place online. The results of the study indicate that the preventive work needs to include more knowledge about social media and that the school's core values also needs to include attitudes, norms and behaviors on social media. A solution, according to school staff, is for students to leave their mobile phones with the staff before each lesson so that they are not affected by them during this time. School staff believe that the preventive work around sexual harassment and abuse, that takes place online, is about questioning behaviors and enabling students to have the courage tell adults about what happens among students. It emerges that norm- setting processes are a central part of school staff’s work to counteract sexual harassment and abuse. School staff experience some organizational difficulties, such as resources and time, to be able to work with norm-critic analyses. A challenge they face is to involve other professional groups, to prioritize this together and work more preventively. Another challenge is also found among the collegial work, where certain professional groups feel that this kind of analyses needs to apply to the entire organization and not only to individuals within the school. In addition to the organizational challenge, school staff experience that a major challenge is found among students' attitudes, behaviors and values, especially among boys.

In order to reduce and prevent domestic violence, preventive work needs to begin at an early age. In previous research it is suggested that preventive work needs to begin as early as between grade six and eight. Recently, it has been discovered that many young people have a distorted view of what constitutes a healthy and equal relationship. In this interview study, six social workers employed as school counselors, employed in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades has participated. Central questions have investigated how and if they work preventively with boys' perceptions of violence, intimate relationships and sex. Through the interviews, it emerged that the school counselors' preventive work takes place in different ways. For example, they defined violence in different ways and the limits for what is supposed to constitute violence is interpreted differently. The preventive work turned out to consist of differences and similarities. For example, theme weeks, presence in open spaces and external lecturers were common elements in their preventive work. The differences could show up for example that they focused on different topics. To gain an understanding of the school counselor's preventive work with boys' violence against girls, this study has included the gender perspective. By looking at how their preventive work can be understood from the point of view of gender, it concluded that the school counselor's own gender perspective affects how they work. The study found that school counselors do work to prevent gender norms.

It has been found that society sometimes fails to protect its citizens from being exposed to honor-related violence and oppression (HRV). A contributing factor is suggested to be lack of knowledge about HRV among practitioners within various fields of social work. This could inhibit practitioners’ ability to act on any signs of oppression among clients who may be exposed to HRV. The current thesis aims to explore this problem further by studying three projects which provide education on HRV to practitioners. Interviews have been conducted with both project managers and project participants in order to access experiences of incorporating education as a preventive factor of HRV, as well as access information on whether the target group, primarily children, have been affected by the work of the projects. The results show that informants respond differently to the term HRV which could infer limitations of the provided education. However, all informants agree that there is a need of education on HRV, especially in order to properly attend to clients who are perceived as pertain to a honor context. Some results show potential obstacles within preventive work against HRV. Such obstacles may be practitioners’ receptiveness to education, as well as practitioners’ perceived difficulties in attending to children between two cultures. All informants agree that education should be viewed as part of an long-term process of preventive work against HRV which needs continuous attention.

De ungas psykiska ohälsa är ett allt ökande problem, vilket är något som måste stoppas. Syftet med studien var att undersöka yrkesverksammas upplevelser och erfarenheter av förebyggande insatser mot psykisk ohälsa för unga. Vi genomförde en kvalitativ studie där vi intervjuade sex yrkesverksamma personer som arbetar med unga i olika sammanhang. Den insamlade datan har analyserats med en tematisk analys. Resultatet av studien visar att yrkesverksamma arbetar väldigt mycket i sitt dagliga arbete med förebyggande insatser. Det framkommer även att det saknas forskning kring ämnet, särskilt evidensbaserad. Studien visar att den psykiska ohälsan enligt yrkesverksamma delvis uppfattas som en konsekvens av det förändrade samhället. Vår uppfattning är att det behövs mer forskning gällande ämnet och mer arbetsmetoder som yrkesverksamma kan använda sig av.
The mental ill-health of young people is a growing problem, which is something that must be stopped. The aim of this study was to show the perceptions and experiences of professionals about treatment against mental ill-health for young people. We conducted a qualitative study in which we interviewed six professionals who work with young people in different contexts in the community. The collected data has been analyzed with a thematic analysis. The results of this study showed that professionals work very much in their daily work with preventative efforts. There is short of research on the subject, especially evidencebased. The study's results showed that mental ill-health is a problem that is partly a consequence of the changing society we live in today. Our opinion is that more research is needed on the subject and more working methods that professionals can use.

The aim of this study was to examine how the school counselors experience their role in the school when it comes to working against bullying. We also wanted to examine how the cooperation works between school counselors and the rest of the school personnel. To obtain useful data for our analysis we used a qualitative method which includes six interviews with six school counselors from municipal and independent primary schools in Helsingborg. To deepen our knowledge even further we have included three theories which are the theory of profession, role theory and Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory.Since this study is based on interviews with school counselors that works in both municipal and independent primary schools, their experience of the preventive work has also been different. The school counselors that works in the municipal schools focus their preventive work through the anti-bullying program Olweus were they for example use surveys to measure the students wellbeing. The independent schools does not work after a specific program and thus has a larger action space to work with. The result of this study shows that the work against bullying varies from the different schools.The school counselors experience of their role in the work against bullying also varies where some of them felt that they have a significant role in the preventive work where others meant that the responsibility lays on the students mentors and teachers. Through this study cooperation has been a consistent theme where the informants believe that the cooperation between them, teachers and the students families is necessary to be able to do a good preventive work in the schools. The cooperation seems to work well in the school but there is parts of the work against bullying that needs clarification when it comes to accountability.

Syftet med föreliggande studie är att fördjupa kunskapen om vilka svårigheter som kan uppstå vid problemlösning i matematikundervisningen och hur lärare förebygger och följer upp elevernas svårigheter. Vi har använt oss av en kvalitativ ansats och ett ramverk hämtat ur Mölleheds (2001) avhandling. Vi har genomfört observationer av elever och lärare och semistrukturerade intervjuer med lärarna. Resultatet visar vilka svårigheter elever har i problemlösningsuppgifter samt hur lärare förebygger och följer upp elevernas svårigheter. Elever visar svårigheter med att kombinera föremål, motivera sina lösningar, förstå matematiska begrepp, förstå texten, separera räknesätten, att ha fokus på rätt detaljer och att de gjorde slarvfel. Lärares förebyggande och uppföljande arbete inkluderade varierande introduktioner, förklaring av begrepp, kartläggande av elevers svårigheter, erbjuda individuellt stöd, och använda helklassdiskussionen som ett sätt att reda ut befintliga svårigheter som uppkommit, genom att lyfta olika strategier. Slutsatsen är att elevers svårigheter är att kombinera föremål, textförståelse, matematiska begrepp, att motivera sina lösningar, räkneförmåga och att behålla fokus på uppgiften. Lärare förebygger elevers svårigheter i problemlösning genom varierande introduktioner, genomgångar, att förklara begrepp och genom att kartlägga elevers svårigheter. Lärare följer upp elevers svårigheter genom att erbjuda individuellt stöd både i och utanför undervisningen i klassrummet och diskutera elevers svårigheter, möjliga lösningar och möjliga strategier i helklassdiskussioner.
The purpose of this study is to deepen the knowledge of the difficulties that can arise in problem solving in mathematics teaching and how teachers prevent and follow up students' difficulties. We have used a qualitative approach and a framework derived from Möllehed's (2001) thesis. We conducted observations of students and teachers and semi-structured interviews with the teachers. The result shows what difficulties students have in problem solving tasks as well as how teachers prevent and follow up students' difficulties. Pupils show difficulty combining objects, motivating their solutions, understanding mathematical concepts, understanding the text, separating the calculations, focusing on the right details and making mistakes. Teacher prevention and follow-up work included varied introductions, explanation of concepts, mapping of student difficulties, offering individual support, and using the whole-class discussion as a way to identify existing difficulties that arose, by highlighting different strategies. The conclusion is that pupils’ difficulties are to combine objects, textual understanding, mathematical concepts, to justify their solutions, calculating ability and to keep focus on the task. Teachers prevent pupils’ difficulties in problem solving through various different introductions, reviews, explaining concepts and by charting lifting difficulties. Teachers follow up pupils difficulties by offering individual support both inside and outside the classroom and discussing the pupils’ difficulties, possible solutions and possible strategies in whole class discussions.

In order to do this, the guidelinesfor pupil health in the municipality of Örebro and operational plans for seven F9 schoolsin the municipality of Örebro will be studied and compared to the government bill”Health, learning and sense of security”. In order to obtain a theoretical understanding ofthe course of events between the different organizational levels, intervention theory hasbeen used as an explanatory model.Through analysis of the municipal guidelines for youth and pupil health, shows that thedocument very much resembles the government bill, which becomes apparent through thesame abstract formulations used. The content of the operational plans, particularly thequestion of preventing ill-health, therefore generally stays on an abstract level as well.Consequently, no concrete measures are taken on school level.From what the government bill emphasizes, the strongest reflection in the operationalplans is the point of quality control in the pupil health work and the participation ofparents. The operational plans are influenced by documents that describe how the pupilhealth work is to be organized, but there is still no policy document available for pupilhealth on local school level that includes health promoting and preventive measures. Thusthe schools lack the tools needed to tackle ill-health from a holistic point of view.However, several measures are available when it comes to reactive measures such asbullying and abusive behaviour.


Det finns ett behov av en utvidgad syn på elevhälsa som uppmärksammar fler aspekter avhälsa. Skolan är en viktig arena för arbetet med barn och ungdomars hälsa, inte minstutifrån ett hälsofrämjande och förebyggande perspektiv. I de dokument som styr skolanhar ett helhetsperspektiv på elevers hälsa fått ett allt större utrymme men på vilket sättoch vad innebär det, från de styrande organen för skolan och ner till personalen som skabemöta eleverna?Syftet med studien är att undersöka överensstämmelsen mellan en nationell och enkommunal och en lokal nivå vad gäller elevhälsa. Konkret innebär det att granska Örebrokommuns riktlinjer för barn- och elevhälsa och sju verksamhetsplaner för F9-skolor iÖrebro kommun utifrån regeringspropositionen ”Hälsa, lärande och trygghet”. För att fåen sammanhängande teoretisk beskrivning av skeendet mellan de olika organisatoriskanivåerna har en interventionsteori används som förklaringsmodell.Det som framkommit genom analys av det kommunala dokumentet är att det i stort ärväldigt likt propositionen, vilket bland annat innebär att det som formulerats i abstraktaordalag i propositionen sällan formuleras mer konkret i kommunens riktlinjer. Det somblir skrivet i verksamhetsplanerna, i synnerhet det som rör att förebygga psykisk ohälsa,blir därför också i vissa fall bara till abstrakta målformuleringar som aldrig tar form ikonkreta åtgärder eller insatser.Det som starkast avspeglas i verksamhetsplanerna utifrån det som framhålls ipropositionen är vikten av att kvalitetssäkra elevhälsoarbetet och att arbeta med eleversoch föräldrars delaktighet. Till stor del formas verksamhetsplanerna utifrån dokumentsom konkret beskriver hur arbetet med elevhälsa ska bedrivas, dock finns det inte någotelevhälsodokument på lokal nivå som generellt beskriver ett förebyggande ochhälsofrämjande arbete. Således har skolorna få verktyg för att angripa ohälsa ur etthelhetsperspektiv. Däremot finns det ett flertal specifika åtgärder till redan befintligproblematik, likt mobbning och kränkande behandling.

I denna studie är syftet att undersöka hur respondenter från olika verksamheter upplever ansvarsfördelning och samverkan kring elever med en neuropsykiatrisk funktionsnedsättning som har en problematisk skolfrånvaro. Vidare undersöks vilka faktorer som orsakar skolfrånvaro samt hur skolorna konkret arbetar förebyggande för att elever inte ska bli frånvarande från skolan. I Sverige finns 5500 barn som inte går till skolan och som därmed inte når kunskapsmålen. Följden av en problematisk skolfrånvaro kan innebära psykisk ohälsa hos eleven, men även påverka elevens framtid negativt i form av marginalisering och utanförskap. Det empiriska materialet, som har analyserats genom en systemteoretisk ingång, har samlats in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med verksamma inom skola samt barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin. I resultatet framgår vikten av samverkan och tydliga rutiner kring ansvarsfördelning för att skolor och barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin ska ha möjlighet att arbeta förebyggande kring elever med en neuropsykiatrisk funktionsnedsättning som har en problematisk skolfrånvaro. Resultatet lyfter att trygghet, delaktighet, struktur och relationer är avgörande för att elever ska vilja komma till skolan. Slutsatsen pekar på att det finns strukturella brister i det gemensamma ansvaret mellan skola, vårdinstanser och föräldrar kring barn och unga med en problematisk skolfrånvaro. Den visar även betydelsen av en omgivning eleven kan känna förtroende för.
The purpose of this study is to examine how professionals from different organisations experience collaboration and division of responsibilities when it comes to pupils with a neuropsychiatric disability who have a problematic school absence. Furthermore, the purpose is to examine what causes school absence and how the professionals describe their preventive work towards pupils with the above described difficulties. Sweden has 5500 children absent from school not fulfilling the educational knowledge requirements. A problematic school absence can cause mental illness during the school years but also marginalise the individual in the future. The empirical material has been collected via semi-structured interviews with professionals within school and psychiatric care for children and youth. The result has been analysed using systems theory. The result indicates the importance of collaboration between professions. To enable the preventive work of schools’ and the psychiatric care for children and youth, the need for a clear division of responsibilities is crucial. The result shows that pupils are more likely to be present in school if they feel safe and are given the opportunity to influence. Structure in the school environment and relations are also described as important. The conclusion indicates structural shortcomings in the responsibilities shared between schools, healthcare and parents regarding children with a neuropsychiatric disability who have a problematic school absence. It also shows the importance of creating a surrounding the pupil can trust.

Barn tillbringar under sin barndom mycket av sin tid i skolan. För att barnen ska kunna utbilda sig och lära sig att hantera vad det som krävs av dem, är det viktigt att skolmiljön är en trygg och säker plats att befinna sig i. Skolan är även en plats där barn med olika bakgrunder samlas och skillnaderna mellan eleverna kan få ojämlikheter, vilket bland annat kan leda till mobbning och kränkande behandling. I fall där sådant förekommer krävs det att skolan agerar, inte bara för att eleverna ska må bra men för att skolan enligt svensk lag är skyldiga till det. Syftet med denna uppsats är att fokusera skolkuratorns förebyggande arbetet mot kränkande behandling i skolor. Eftersom mobbning ständigt ökar är det viktigt att det pågår ett arbete för att förhindra det. Datainsamlingen har skett genom intervjuer och dessa har analyserats utifrån studiens syfte samt frågor. Studiens huvudsakliga slutsats resulterar i att mobbning behöver arbetas mot inom olika förebyggande åtgärder.
Children spend a lot of their time in school during their childhood. To be able to learn and manage what is required of them, it is important that the school is a safe place to be in with a good environment. The school is also a place where children from different backgrounds come together and the differences can make inequalities occur.  This can lead to bullying and offensive treatment. In these cases, it is required that the school acts, not only for the students to feel good but the school is also obliged to do that by the Swedish law. The aim with this essay is to focus on the school counselor’s prevention against offensive treatment in schools. Since bullying is on the rise, it is important that there is ongoing work to prevent it. Data collection has taken place through interviews and analyzed based on the purpose of the study and issues. The main conclusion that has been seen as an important inference is that bullying needs to work against different preventions.

Introduction: Authorities within the health care sector have a big responsibility for public health, where health promotive and preventive work methods applies to achieve a positive public health development. A big public health problem is obesity, which is a large contributing factor to lifestyle diseases that affects both adults and children. In Sweden statistic show that every fifth child is obese. An important arena is family centres which should work for guiding and supporting off families to a better health through informing the families about healthy habits. Purpose: Investigate how three family centres in southern Sweden work health promotive and preventive with families about obesity. Method: The study was performed with help from a qualitative method. Semi-structured interviews with twelve occupational professions got to represent the result. The interviews were transcribed and evaluated with a content analysis. Results: Make healthy living habits visible, guide and educate parents, different working methods, approach to the families were meaningful for the health promotive and preventive work at the family centres. The result also highlighted challenges and difficulties in the family centres work. Conclusion: The theory KASAM could be linked to the work of the family centres, as a sense of context could be important for the work with the families to perceive comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness. The visibility of people´s living habits is best done through a collaboration between several key players. The family centres work is important for the future public health, implementation of resources is therefore important.

Abstract The study aimed at describing and investigating the quality and dynamics of the problem of exclusion among children and young people in the light of social care documents. The sample consisted of the documents on 990 customers of child welfare and income support services aged below 25 in 1992–1997 as descriptions of the children’s and young persons’ situations and courses of life in Finland after the depression of the early 1990’s. The attention focused especially on the various problems in the children’s and young people’s welfare as a basis for social services customership and as descriptors of their exclusion. The life situations of social services customers were generally determined by their unstable position in the labour market and the limitations of their financial resources, in addition to which various subgroups in the sample had their own problems. In child welfare, customership was often based on the mother’s alcohol/drug use or mental problems and neglect of child care or the young person’s problems with school and alcohol or drugs. In terms of income support, the need for support was most often based on the young person’s exclusion from working life and on the related financial difficulties. Important forms of support in both child welfare and income support included customer counselling and financial support. Although social services customership was related particularly to accumulated problems, the customers did not form a uniform group. The documents revealed nine types of customership based on their life control and dimensions of exclusion: life control, integration, minor customership, elimination, danger of exclusion, serious danger of exclusion, marginalisation, segregation and exclusion. The differences between them were connected with differences in the quality and degree of the customers’ welfare problems and in the customers’ power of influence and possibilities for social support. The closer to life control a person’s type of customership was situated, the more she or he could exert an influence using his/her own resources or the support of his/her close community. Moving towards exclusion, the network of control around the customer tightened and the situation was determined ever more clearly by problems, obligations and control. The various types of customership described the customers’ life situations at certain moments, but also at the various stages of the exclusion or survival process and when the life situations were viewed from different perspectives. The exclusion of children and young people was manifested in the current study above all as danger of exclusion. It was about a nightmare scenario of the postmodern society following the both/and logic which was connected not only with the various problems of the social services customers but also with the exclusion of children and adolescents from what we see as normal growth and development. Children who were customers of the social services did not necessarily have the opportunity to be children, and young people did not necessarily grow into adults. The threats of exclusion and possibilities of survival had an impact on the children’s and adolescents’ lives on a situation-by-situation basis and also simultaneously depending on which and whose viewpoint the situation was viewed from. Light and shadow penetrated each other in their life as their life situations took shape in the dimensions of life control and exclusion
Tiivistelmä Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kuvata ja selvittää lasten ja nuorten syrjäytymisongelman laatua ja dynamiikkaa sosiaalihuollon asiakirjojen valossa. Tutkimusaineistona olivat 990 alle 25-vuotiaan sosiaalihuollon lastensuojelun tai toimeentulotuen asiakkaan asiakirjat vuosilta 1992–1997 kuvauksina lasten ja nuorten elämäntilanteista ja elämänkulusta 1990-luvun alun laman jälkeisessä Suomessa. Huomion kohteina olivat erityisesti lasten ja nuorten erilaiset hyvinvoinnin ongelmat sosiaalihuollon asiakkuuden perusteina ja lasten ja nuorten syrjäytymisen kuvaajina. Sosiaalihuollon asiakkaiden elämäntilanteita määrittivät yleisesti epävakaa työmarkkina-asema ja taloudellisten resurssien rajallisuus, joiden lisäksi kohdejoukon eri osaryhmillä oli omia ongelmiaan. Lastensuojelussa asiakkuutta perusteltiin usein äidin päihde- ja mielenterveysongelmilla ja lapsenhoidon laiminlyönnillä tai nuoren koulu- ja päihdeongelmilla. Toimeentulotuessa nuorten tuen tarpeen perusteena olivat puolestaan useimmiten nuorten työelämän ulkopuolelle jääminen ja siihen liittyvät taloudelliset vaikeudet. Keskeisiä tukimuotoja sekä lastensuojelussa että toimeentulotuessa olivat asiakkaan neuvonta ja taloudellinen tuki. Vaikka sosiaalihuollon asiakkuus liittyi erityisesti kasautuneisiin ongelmiin, eivät asiakkaat olleet yhtenäinen ryhmä. Asiakirja-aineistosta löytyi yhdeksän elämänhallinnan ja syrjäytymisen ulottuvuudella jäsentyvää asiakkuustyyppiä: elämänhallinta, integraatio, pikkuasiakkuus, karsiutuminen, syrjäytymisvaara, vakava syrjäytymisvaara, marginalisaatio, segregaatio ja syrjäytyminen. Niiden väliset erot liittyivät eroihin asiakkaiden hyvinvoinnin ongelmien laadussa ja asteessa sekä asiakkaiden vaikutusmahdollisuuksissa ja mahdollisuuksissa sosiaaliseen tukeen. Mitä lähemmäksi elämänhallintaa asiakkuustyyppi sijoittui, sitä enemmän asiakas pystyi vaikuttamaan asioihin joko omien voimavarojensa tai lähiyhteisön tuen turvin. Kohti syrjäytymistä siirryttäessä kontrollin verkko asiakkaan ympärillä kiristyi ja tilannetta määrittivät yhä selvemmin ongelmat, pakot ja kontrolli. Eri asiakkuustyypit kuvasivat asiakkaiden elämäntilanteita tiettynä hetkenä, mutta myös syrjäytymis- ja selviytymisprosessin eri vaiheissa ja elämäntilanteita eri näkökulmista tarkasteltaessa. Lasten ja nuorten syrjäytyminen näyttäytyi tutkimuksessa ennen muuta syrjäytymisvaarana. Siinä oli kyse myöhäismodernin yhteiskunnan sekä–että logiikkaa noudattavasta uhkakuvasta, joka liittyi paitsi sosiaalihuollon asiakkaiden erilaisiin ongelmiin, myös lasten ja nuorten syrjäytymiseen normaalina pidettävästä kasvusta ja kehityksestä. Sosiaalihuollon asiakkaina olevat lapset eivät välttämättä saaneet olla lapsia ja nuoret eivät välttämättä kasvaneet aikuisiksi. Syrjäytymisen uhat ja selviytymisen mahdollisuudet vaikuttivat lasten ja nuorten elämään tilanteittain ja myös samanaikaisesti riippuen siitä, mistä ja kenen näkökulmasta tilannetta tarkasteltiin. Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to describe how the principal and the special pedagogue perceive and define pupil ill-health prevention and pupil health enhancement in their work. It explores how they understand the role they play in elevhälsan, literally meaning pupils' health. And how meetings are run and decisions are made within the pupils' health teams at selected schools. Questions that will be answered are: How do the principal and the special pedagogue perceive pupil ill-health prevention and health enhancement work of the pupil health team at the school? How do the principal and the special pedagogue perceive their roles in the health of the pupils? How are decisions made and followed through at the pupil healthcare meetings? This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews and phenomenological inspired methodology. Pupil health teams from three different schools were interviewed, and in total three principals and five special pedagogues took part in this study. The analysis of the results of this study show that further consensus between the different health promoting coordinators is needed in the implementation of the pupil ill-health prevention and health enhancement work. Further findings show inconsistencies in how the different pupil health teams conduct their meetings and in how decisions are implemented. A majority of the pupil health teams used the meetings to address existing problems, rather than ill-health prevention and health promotion efforts. The principals demonstrated that they have a greater consensus in how they define their role in promoting pupil health, as opposed to the special pedagogues who expressed a more varied picture of their role. This study also demonstrates that the pupil health team that was most effective in pupil health developments was the team that had further education in pupil health. Findings also show that the different health coordinators have an important role in furthering development and accessibility of the learning environment for the pupils, and in contributing to creating a 'school for everyone'. The demands on the special pedagogues to meet all pupils' differences, and to see these differences as an asset, are great. The requirement of a 'school for everyone' is a lot to ask for. To create a school that has learning environments tailored to everyone's individual needs requires an understanding and consensus between the different pupil health coordinators. This can sometimes be a dilemma, yet the pupil health coordinators have an important role to fill in these realms. This study also found that it was of utmost importance to have a clearly defined organisation and definition of the what the ill-health prevention and health enhancement work involved. To promote this the pupil health coordinators must create a meeting culture that supports the pupil ill-health prevention and health promotional work.

Sexual abuse is a global issue that can result in psychosocial consequences for the on that has been abused. Statistics show that girls and boys in high school age are among the group that are most vulnerable to sexual abuse and studies shows that high school counselors have or should have resources that can help students that has been abused. The purpose of this study is, through interviews study the work of high school counselors regarding students that have been sexually abused but also how they work to prevent sexual abuse. We also wanted to investigate if there are any differences in the mode of work depending on gender. Our study is based on interviews of six high school counselors that we interviewed in person at their work place. To analyze our data, we took help from previous research on the subject but also theories about action space, sexuality and gender. Our result shows that the high school counselors work in different ways to help students that have been sexually abused but there are no specific guidelines on how the high school counselors are supposed to work to prevent sexual abuse and deal with students that have been abused. Their main job is to be a support system for the student if she or he need to talk to somebody and guide the student through the process of pressing chargers or contacting different authorities. It became evident in our study that prevention and the way of dealing with sexual abuse needs to improve in the high school counselors’ work, which most of the school counselors said themselves. None of the counselors said that they work differently based on the student´s gender but half of them used the word boy when describing the perpetrator and girl when describing the victim. With the help of our theory we could see that there is a perception in society where the male gender is often seen as the perpetrator and that this perception affects how high school counselors see and talk about sexual abuse. This perception makes it also more difficult for boys to talk about sexual abuse and also realize when they have been victims of sexual abuse.

Abstract:
This research will explore how social workers in the Swedish childcare system argue about semi coercive measures, tensions between voluntariness and coercion, and their discretion for those actions. Semi coercive measures are regulated by The Care of Young Persons Act (LVU), section 22. To investigate this a qualitative method was adopted. Eight semi- structured interviews were conducted with social workers that have experience when it comes to work within social services regarding children and young people. The research utilises a thematic analysis as a means of processing the data. To analyse the results, Lipsky’s theoretical concept; Street-level bureaucracy and Foucault’s theoretical concept of power; discipline and disciplining based on panopticism and pastoral power, are used. The analysis of the results indicates that the respondent’s views of the tension between coercive and voluntary measures differ, and that there is no clear distinction. Most of the respondents considered the regulations on semi coercive measures as unnecessary while others thought they are a useful tool when implemented correctly. Moreover, social workers use similar forms of semi coercive measures but not according to section 22 LVU. Respondents use their discretion in different ways, which influences their views on whether the section is necessary or not.

Abstract:
This dissertation offers an in-depth descriptive account of how women manage daily risks associated with sex work, criminalization, and HIV/AIDS. Primary data collection took place within two slums in Kampala, Uganda over the course of fourteen months. The emphasis was on ethnographic methodologies involving participant observation and informal and unstructured interviewing. Insights then informed document analysis of international and national policies concerning HIV prevention and treatment strategies in the context of Uganda. The dissertation finds social networks and social capital provide the basis for community formation in the sex trade. It holds that these interpersonal processes are necessary components for how women manage daily risks associated with sex work and criminalization. However, the dissertation also finds that women’s social connections can undermine the strategies they need to manage their HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. This is because current HIV/AIDS policies prioritize individual behavioral change practices that undermine the complex interpersonal activities developed by women to stay alive. In response, this dissertation concludes that social networks are fundamental to the formation of sex work communities and to the survival of women in the sex trade and should be considered in future HIV policies and programs intending to intervene in the HIV epidemic of female commercial sex workers in Kampala, Uganda.

Abstract:
Online crime, in general, is increasing these years, crimes committed through technology that is almost impossible for the authorities to solve and prevent. The average Danish teenager spends six hours a day on online forums, and studies on how content affects the user show that the users do get affected by the content. How do practitioners prevent teenage users from being embedded in extremist online communities when there are no national guidelines or research to support an evidence-based approach to prevention? Practitioners give presentations on this topic to teenagers and other professionals and seek to create stabile strong social bonds among peers and talk openly about pitfalls of the internet with the teenagers.  This thesis applies Social Learning Theory and Social Bond theory in the understanding of why some users get radicalized through online forums. Applying these theories is relevant because mirroring propaganda, creating norm deviating social bonds and a “them and us” detachment from the surrounding norm society can be explained by these theoretical perspectives – and can all be precursors towards extremist behavior.  The practitioners believe that they are navigating in a field where the need for knowledge is huge, and the methodological approach highly relies independently on the practitioner themselves. The main theoretical discussion is based on the founding hypothesis that being exposed to extremist content either leads to nothing or an increase in deviant behavior. The theoretical perspective in this thesis and previous research suggests that there is a causal link between traditional real-life risk factors and online crime, but also attachment to deviant online communities can lead to extremism – just as it is in a real-life setting.

Abstract:
Victims of domestic violence (DV) are growing, still the number of cases reported isn't. In Rättvik only half the amount of cases are reported compared to two years ago. Rättvik is working to reduce DV by starting the project "Våga Hjälpa!". The purpose of this study was to use a quantitative approach to examine if the project is known in Rättvik. The study's based on a survey with a 27% response rate. The analysis was made by SPSS and interpreted on the basis of conformity, the bystander effect and the Theory of Planned Behaviour. Results show that the majority haven't been in contact with DV and that the knowledge of how to act is evenly spread. The study concludes with an objective evalution of "Våga Hjälpa!" where our study results are related to the project objectives. The evaluation partly shows a fullfilled result but also some improvement opportunities.
Allt fler blir offer för våld i nära relationer, trots detta ökar inte anmälda relationsvåldsbrott. I Rättviks kommun ser man idag en halvering av anmälda våldsbrott i jämförelse med två år tillbaka. Kommunen arbetar aktivt för att minska relationsvåldsbrott och har startat projektet "Våga hjälpa!". Syftet med denna studie var att med en kvantitativ ansats undersöka i vilken utsträckning projektet "Våga Hjälpa!" är känt bland Rättviks invånare. Studien bygger på en enkätundersökning med en svarsfrekvens på 27%. Analysen av materialet har gjorts genom SPSS för att sedan tolkas utifrån konformitet, åskådareffekten samt Theory of Planned Behaviour. Resultatet av studien visar att majoriteten av respondenterna inte kommit i kontakt med relationsvåld samt en jämn spridning avseende kunskap om hur man ska agera. Studien avslutas med en målutvärdering av "Våga Hjälpa!" där resultatet av vår studie relateras till projektets mål. Denna utvärdering påvisar delvis ett uppfyllt resultat men även vissa förbättringsmöjligheter.

Abstract:
This dissertation examines the associations between adult Latina daughters’ HIV risk behaviors and that of their older Latina mothers’ HIV risk behaviors. The central hypothesis of the study is that adult Latina daughters’ influence their older mothers’ behaviors and that such behaviors interact with the level of their attachment. Older Latinas are a vulnerable population that face cultural risk factors, health care provider bias, and engage in low rates of HIV testing. The primary mode of HIV infection for Latinas is through heterosexual contact. Yet, traditional gender norms such as marianismo belief place pressure on Latina women to be submissive to their partners, disregard their infidelities, and not attempt to negotiate condom use, increasing the risk of HIV infection among Latinas via heterosexual sex with their primary partners. Efforts by the CDC to increase HIV testing have emerged as a critical part of HIV prevention. However, research has indicated that older Latinas are less likely to speak to a health care provider about safe sex practices or HIV testing than their younger counterparts. Despite health care providers having strong influences over Latinas’ decisions to perform health related tests, physicians are not endorsing HIV testing for their older patients. This in part, leads to a disproportionate number of late stage diagnoses among older adults. Evidence suggest that adult daughters are a source of support and assistance in health-related issues for their aging mothers and are uniquely positioned to influence their mothers’ health-related behaviors and decisions. Additionally, mother-daughter attachment has been found to be a protective factor to other risky health behaviors. The present study (1) Examined the association between recurrent HIV risk behaviors of adult Latina daughters and those of their older Latina mothers and (2) examined the moderating effect mother-daughter attachment have on those associations. No statistical significance was found in examining the association between adult Latina daughters and their older mothers, nor was attachment found to be a moderator on those associations. Findings show culture may be the significant factor influencing the lack of association between adult Latina daughters and their older mothers. Results add to the literature and scientific field of social work and public health. Additionally promoting studies on cultural barriers that may exist in adult Latina daughter and older mother upward communication as techniques to promote healthy behaviors among older Latinas.

Abstract:

The purpose of this project was to partner with a host agency, locate a potential funding source, and write a grant to obtain funding for a preventative program for at-risk youth. A literature review was conducted in order to analyze the background and prevalence of juvenile delinquency, and past and current prevention and intervention efforts to address it. The preventative program will be located at Boys Republic's Monrovia Day program, located in Monrovia, California. The program will provide at-risk (male and female) high school aged (13-18) youth with education, independent living skills, and recreational activities to develop or improve social skills, emotional growth, and self-sufficiency. The program will also assist youth with developing meaningful relationships with nonfamily adults through the use of mentorship. The actual submission or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion ofthe project.
