Abstract:
Much of the social choice literature examines direct voting systems, in which voters submit their ranked preferences over candidates and a voting rule picks a winner. Real-world elections and decision-making processes are often more complex and involve multiple stages. For instance, one popular voting system filters candidates through primaries: first, voters affiliated with each political party vote over candidates of their own party and the voting rule picks a candidate from each party, which then compete in a general election. We present a model to analyze such multi-stage elections, and con

Abstract:
The research question of this study was whether voters who participated in presidential primaries cast retrospective votes. This problem was studied with data from CBS News/New York Times exit polls for three 1976 Republican primaries and for ten 1980 Democratic primaries. The analysis suggested that ballots cast in the presidential primaries of the party-in-power were primarily retrospective votes. Statistical controls were introduced for candidate image, ideology, issues, electability, party identification, and socioeconomic status. These controls did not alter the basic finding of retrospec

This paper investigates the motion of the massless body moving under the influence of the gravitational forces of the three equal heterogeneous oblate spheroids placed at Lagrangian configuration. After determining the equations of motion and the Jacobian constant of the massless body, we have illustrated the numerical work (Stationary points, zero-velocity curves, regions of motion, Poincare surfaces of section and basins of attraction). And then we have checked the linear stability of the stationary points and found that all the stationary points are unstable.

Abstract Sharp reduction of the inner web of the outer primary feather, hereafter referred to as the attenuated primary, is present in 54 of about 300 species belonging to the family Columbidae. The flight performance hypothesis (Goodwin 1983) suggests that attenuated primaries improve flight performance in cluttered habitats, presumably by enhancing maneuverability. This hypothesis predicts that the evolution of attenuated primaries should be associated with the use of closed habitats. A comparative analysis, using the contingent states test (Sillén-Tullberg 1993), was made to test this hypot

In adult Pelagic Cormorants primary replacement is stepwise, with multiple waves of molt, each initiated at the innermost primary (P1), proceeding simultaneously toward the tip of the wing. Shugart and Rohwer's (1996) ontogenetic model for generating and maintaining stepwise primary replacement depended upon incomplete molts. In each new episode of molt, waves of primary replacemen

Multiple reflections contain subsurface reflectivity information which often complements that found in primary reflections. Previous attempts to combine the additional information by summing prestack images of the primaries and multiples have generally failed because of crosstalk leakage between the images.
