Abstract:
George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham (1592-1628), favorite of James I and of Charles I as both prince and king, used skill in dancing, especially in masques, to compete for and retain royal favor. Masques in which he danced and masques he commissioned displayed his power with the rulers he ostensibly served. His example and teaching taught Prince Charles that through masque dancing he might win his father's favor, and probably made Charles believe that his appearance in court masques of the 1630s would similarly win his subjects' favor.

ABSTRACTWe have used a combination of traditional morphological examination and molecular DNA analysis to characterise 16 moss specimens collected from the Mawson Escarpment and Clemence Massif, exposures of bedrock and glacial debris in the southern Prince Charles Mountains of East Antarctica. The nuclear ribosomal ITS region and the chloroplast rps4 gene were sequenced and compared with those of other mosses known from coastal East Antarctica. The moss specimens from the southern Prince Charles Mountains were identified as Ptychostomum pseudotriquetrum (Hedw.) D. T. Holyoak and N. Pedersen, Schistidium antarctici (Cardot) ‘L.I. Savicz & Smirnova’ and Coscinodon lawianus (J.H. Willis) Ochyra. These constitute a new record for S. antarctici in the Prince Charles Mountains, and confirm and extend southwards previous records for P. pseudotriquetrum and C. lawianus in the region.

Abstract:
The King as figure and image represented in polemical literature is the central focus of the present research. This offers a study in the semiotics of royal representation: a deciphering or de-coding of its imagery, symbolism and iconicity. From the creation of meaning displayed in these representational constructs, a new examination becomes possible of the mechanisms by which the concept and image of kingly power was being re-projected and received at a critical moment of English history. Printed propaganda reveals the King, in his ‘two bodies’, to have been the nerve-point around which a whole constellation of political arguments, powerful emotional stimuli and evocations of national memory, were conjured up and deployed in persuasion and struggle. Tracing representations of the King through the period 1678-83 establishes not only how the language of printed propaganda developed over the period; it also reveals, more surprisingly, a permanent process of oblique or lateral reference which goes to the heart of the quest for national and cultural identity in this period. Similar methodological approaches have been applied fruitfully in research treating Louis XIV and Oliver Cromwell; yet the present study is the first of this type to have been carried out in relation to Charles II and, via this central icon, used to renew our understanding of the Exclusion crisis itself. Beyond this, my thesis, it is hoped, makes a genuine contribution to our wider insight about the character of Restoration England, about kingly power at a time of major phase-change in the political mindset, and about the emergence of ‘politicised media’ recognizable in our contemporary world.

Abstract:
The Toploje Member chert is a Roadian to Wordian autochthonous– parautochthonous silicified peat preserved within the Lambert Graben, East Antarctica. It preserves a remarkable sample of terrestrial life from high-latitude central Gondwana prior to the Capitanian mass extinction event from both mega- and microfossil evidence that includes cryptic components rarely seen in other fossil assemblages. The peat layer is dominated by glossopterid and cordaitalean gymnosperms and contains sparse herbaceous lycophytes, together with a broad array of dispersed organs of ferns and other gymnosperms. The peat also hosts a wide range of fungal morphotypes, Peronosporomycetes, rare arthropod remains and a diverse coprolite assemblage. The fungal and invertebrate-plant interactions associated with various organs of the Glossopteris plant reveal the cryptic presence of a ‘component community’ of invertebrate herbivores and fungal saprotrophs centred around the Glossopteris organism, and demonstrate that a multitude of ecological interactions were well developed by the Middle Permian in high-latitude forest mires. Comparisons of coal maceral data from co-occurring coal seams with quantitative analyses of the silicified peat constituents reveals that while silicified peats provide an unparalleled sample of the organisms forming these coal deposits, they do not necessarily reflect the constituents that ultimately dominate the coal maceral volume.

Abstract:
Charles de Valois (1446-1472) was a prince in fifteenth-century France. During his short lifetime, Charles endeavored to gain more authority while in conflict with his brother Louis XI, who was king. Although a minor political character in French history, Charles did demonstrate his power in several artistic ways. One commission by the young royal was a manuscript now known as the Hours of Charles of France. Two pages of this text, the Annunciation to the Virgin, are decorated with rich imagery and iconography used to exhibit Charles' desire for greater authority. The manuscript has only been discussed stylistically, and therefore this thesis examines the content of these pages in terms of secular imagery, religious symbolism, and the prince's connection to the priestly Virgin Mary. These aspects all relate to Charles' display of authority. To fully understand Charles' propaganda, this thesis first examines secular imagery within the manuscript pages. The analysis of worldly symbols of power, such as knighthood, fashion, ornamentation, and architecture, present Charles' desire for greater wealth and power. In addition, this thesis discusses the Virgin Mary in connection with the prince's political imaging. By looking at religious imagery that supports Mary in her role as priestess, this thesis considers how Charles attaches himself to her heightened power. Through both secular and spiritual characteristics, Charles' authority was elevated during a period of political uncertainty and monarchical unrest.

A partir de l'étude approfondie des registres angevins de Naples, l'objet de cette thèse est d'analyser les caractéristiques du pouvoir angevin établi dans la principauté de Morée, depuis sa cession par le prince Guillaume de Villehardouin au roi Charles Ier d'Anjou en 1267, jusqu'à la mort de Charles II d'Anjou en 1309. Seigneurs supérieurs de toute la principauté durant toute cette période, et même princes effectifs de la Morée entre 1278 et 1289, les rois de Sicile ont eu le souci de gouverner ce territoire en mettant en place une administration efficace et centralisée, s'appuyant à la fois sur les ressources humaines de leur royaume et sur les élites moréotes, menant leurs politiques dans le respect des coutumes locales. Ils ne remirent pas en cause les structures féodales et religieuses de la principauté, et encouragèrent les échanges commerciaux avec la Morée. Imposant leur autorité aux princes et à la princesse Isabelle de Villehardouin, les angevins ont su gérer plusieurs conflits, y compris celui opposant le prince au duc d'Athènes. Based on the thorought study of the Angevins registers of Naples, this doctoral thesis aims at analysing the caracteristics of the Angevin power established in the principality of Morea, from its transfer by prince William of Villehardouin to the king Charles Ist of Anjou in 1309, until the death of Charles II of Anjou in 1309. Superior lords of the principality during this period, and effective princes of Morea between 1278 and 1289, the kings of Sicily cared about governing this territory, installing an efficient and centralized administration, leaning both on the human resources of their kingdom and on the Moreotes elites, leading their politics in the respect of the local customs. They didn't change the feodal and religious structures of the principality, and they stimulated commercial exchanges with Morea. They imposed their authority to the princes and the princess Isabelle of Villehardouin. The angevins succed in managing several conflicts, even the one between the prince and the duke of Athens. But they couldn't retake the territories capures by the Byzantins : if Charles Ist lead several military operations in the Peloponese without real success, the Sicilian Vespers crisis put an end to his military ambitions. Charles II let the defense of the principality to the prince hands. The principilaty of Morea became dependant on the kingdom of Sicily, especially with the deposition of the princess Isabelle in 1304, and became then a mere peripheral province of the kingdom of Sicily

Abstract:
The translation of culture-specific words and expressions as well as how to fully transmit the semantics and pragmatics of a text when translating are two things that often poses problems and challenges for translators. The strategies among which one can choose are many and the translation is more or less bound to lose something along the way. In this present essay, the Swedish comic album Prins Charles känsla (2010) by Liv Strömquist and its French translation Les sentiments du Prince Charles (2012) have been studied. With the help of existing translation strategies, what is examined is initially what choices the translators have made and how this affects the French text. Based on this, I try to say something about whether the text has lost something in the translation process, and if this is case, what these losses are.

Abstract:
Abstract A Conical Shaped Charge (CSC) is a versatile device utilized in construction, mining, petroleum and defense industries. The geometry and material structure of the metal liner play an integral role in the CSC performance. The performance of CSC liners has been relatively well-characterized for liners manufactured via hydroforming, hydraulic pressing, or turning on a CNC lathe. With advancements in Additive Manufacturing (AM) CSC liners can be 3D printed with metal powders. AM can provide significant design freedom in terms of realizing better properties through introduced hierarchic structuring or anisotropy. However, it is unclear as to how metal liners produced with Selective Laser Melting (SLM), will influence the conical shaped charge’s performance. This paper explores the performance, relative to the penetration of steel plates, of CSCs using 3D printed metal liners benchmarked against machined liners. The metal liners were printed with SLM parameters that were optimized to maximize the print density. The metal liner dimensions (thickness, height, and outer diameter) were designed using the recommended ratios of the liner’s inner diameter presented by Virgil (1988). The 3D printed metal liners are compared to a CNC machined liner, with the same dimensions. The comparison enables the evaluation of how 3D printing a liner influences penetration performance. The results indicate conical shaped charges could utilize 3D printed liners. These results open a wide range of performance design opportunities that cannot be achieved via conventional manufacturing and justify the current increased cost associated with additive manufacturing metal components. Future work will continue to explore how print density, printed material, and advanced geometries modify the conical shaped charge performance.

Abstract:
An ink-particle flight simulation method for industrial, continuous-type inkjet printers was developed to clarify the factors that influence the print distortion. Print distortion is produced by aerodynamic and electric interference between the ink-particles flying from the nozzle onto the print-target. The necessary functions to do this, such as the calculation of electrostatic force in the electric field between the electrodes, the Coulomb’s force from other charged ink-particles, and the drag force in the inkjet stream for many flying ink-particles were added to a Lagrangian method in the fluid dynamic analysis software that was used for the simulation. The trajectories of the ink-particles flying from this nozzle onto the print target and the air-flow caused by them were calculated simultaneously in the simulation. The simulation results for the velocities and trajectories of the flying ink-particles were compared with the experimental ones using a high-speed camera. These simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental ones, and this helps to clarify the factors that influence the print distortion.

Technology is a means of accomplishing a task mainly by using technical processes, methods, or knowledge.The importance of technology in connection with any type of development is widely recognized, especially having considering nowadays’ worldwide Covid-19 context.The passage from standardized to digitalized teaching-learning process hasn’t been easy. Information technology and educational technology are now extensively being used in schools and refer to a wide multitude of teaching-and-learning–related software and hardware used during the lessons. Learning becomes effective when the students are actively engaged, are collaborating with one another, are in charge of their learning process, become critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers. Scientific thinking appears when thinking about the content of science and the set of reasoning processes that permeate the field of science: induction, deduction, experimental design, causal reasoning, concept formation, hypothesis testing, and so on, are combined. Simultaneously, teachers continue their lifelong learning process online, design digital lessons, gamify lessons, obtain real time results, are part of the staffroom at school and also part of a larger, more diverse, virtual staffroom. Abstract:
Batteries used in electric vehicles cannot be used in the vehicle once the battery capacity falls to 70% to 80%. The remaining capacity of these batteries can be used in various applications so that they can be kept out of landfills. One of the applications is to use the second life batteries to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the grid. The CO2 emissions from the grid are high during the non-peak hours when only the base plants are operating. We charge the second life battery when the power from renewable resources is available and discharge the battery when there is peak load. With the increase in renewable generation such as photo voltaic, wind energy the carbon foot print changes with the hour of the day. The demonstrated technique optimizes the use of second life battery to reduce the emissions considering uncertainties in the load and availability of renewable power.

Abstract:
Dans La Chartreuse de Parme de Stendhal, Les Années de Virginia Woolf et dans Le Guépard de Tomasi di Lampedusa, l'eau est présente en tant qu'élément symbolique et se charge de significations profondes. Dans La Chartreuse de Parme l'eau renvoie à la nostalgie de la patrie idéalisée, l'Italie. En particulier le souvenir de la vue du lac de Côme, avant que l'écrivain quitte l'Italie en 1821, revient dans le texte à plusieurs reprises. Ce lac est « sublime » aux yeux de Fabrice, pour qui « rien d'aussi beau ne peut se voir au monde ». L'eau, dans La Chartreuse, se manifeste ainsi sous forme de larmes ; les personnages pleurent sans cesse, exprimant les sentiments les plus profonds de leur âme, voire la joie ou le malheur. Comme l’a montré Gaston Bachelard, l'eau, peut assumer un double caractère, maternel et de rêverie. L’œuvre de Stendhal en est la parfaite illustration. Dans Les Années, les personnages, en regardant l'eau, semblent revivre les mêmes expériences intérieures que l'écrivaine avait vécues et décrites dans son journal intime. De l'eau émergent les images du passé de Rose. Il s'agit d'un passé désormais enseveli mais douloureux. Ainsi, l'eau fascine les personnages qui s’arrêtent et contemplent, comme hypnotisés, cet élément naturel. Dans Le Guépard, l'eau se charge de fonctions symboliques mais elle est ainsi présente au niveau du style. Lorsque le prince Salina meurt dans sa chambre d’hôtel située au bord de la mer, la description intérieure de sa mort se fait par des images aquatiques : « Ce n'était plus un fleuve qui déferlait de lui, mais un océan, en tempête, hérissé d'écume et de grosses vagues déchaînées... ». À travers une lecture comparée, nous verrons comment Stendhal, Tomasi di Lampedusa et Virginia Woolf, ont représenté dans leurs romans la nostalgie, la profondeur de l’âme ainsi que le binôme vie-mort à travers l'eau. Abstract:
The goal of this work is in situ monitoring of the functional properties of aerosol jet-printed electronic devices. In pursuit of this goal, the objective is to develop a multiple-input, single-output (MISO) machine learning model to estimate the device functional properties in a near real-time fashion as a function of process parameters as well as 2D/3D features of line morphology. The aim is to use the MISO model for in situ estimation and thus, monitoring of line/device resistance in aerosol jet printing (AJP) process. To realize this objective, silver nanoparticle structures are printed by varying three process parameters: (i) sheath gas flow rate (ShGFR), (ii) exhaust gas flow rate (EGFR), and (iii) print speed (PS). Subsequently, line morphology is captured in situ using a high-resolution charge-coupled device (CCD) camera, mounted coaxial to the nozzle. Besides, utilizing 2D/3D quantifiers (introduced in the authors’ previous publications), the line morphology is further quantified, and the extracted features (e.g., line width, overspray, cross-sectional area, etc.) are fed as inputs to a novel sparse representation-based classification (SRC) model. The four-point probe method is used for measurement of resistance, and definition of a priori classification labels. The outcome of this research paves the way for future control of device functional properties in AJP process.
