Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery is a Canadian Classic children’s fiction published in 1908. It revolves around an eleven-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley who is vibrant, witty, has a vivid imagination and a positive outlook on life. This coming-of-age story begins as Anne Shirley arrives at the Green Gables house on Prince Edward Island, Canada, to assist the upper-middle-aged siblings Marilla and Gilbert Cuthbert on their farm. The Cuthbert siblings were disappointed to see a girl as they were expecting to foster a boy to assist with the field labor. Anne Shirley landed in

Teaching and researching medieval literature at UPEI is both a challenge and a delight. It is a challenge, because I am the only medievalist on the campus (indeed, on the Island). My students do not have complementary courses in other disciplines (such as history or philosophy) to introduce them to the contexts in which the literature I teach emerged. And I often miss the intellectual stimulation and support of having other medievalists nearby. In 1908, two Canadian women published first novels that became instant best-sellers. Nellie McClung's Sowing Seeds in Danny initially outsold Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, but by 1965 McClung's book had largely disappeared from Canadian consciousness. The popularity of Anne, on the other hand, has continued to the present, and Anne has received far more academic and critical attention, especially since 1985. It is only recently that Anne of Green Gables has been criticized for its ideology in the same manner as Sowing Seeds in Danny. The initial question that inspired this disse

This study aims to uncover the synoptic weather circulation pattern which is associated with the occurrence of needle ice, snowfall and the zero-curtain effect. The method of study was done through an intensive ground climate measurement campaign from April 2008 to May 2009 with a temperature logger installed throughout the recording period. Results from data analyses indicate that the complex changes in climate parameters may lead to an equally complex response in terms of spatial soil frost dynamics and its direct and indirect effects on soil sediment displacement and ecosystem dynamics. Abstract:
This thesis examines the political theory of deliberative democracy, as elucidated by Habermas, through a case study of the electoral reform process in Prince Edward Island. For deliberative democrats like Habermas, public debate ideally possesses an epistemic, or truth-tracking, dimension. After a through discussion of the reform process in that jurisdiction, complemented by interviews with important actors in that process, the public debate on electoral reform in PEI is evaluated in terms of its correspondence with the idealistic presuppositions of deliberative democracy. This increase in warming has lead to organisms adjusting their distribution range and where this is not possible organisms must cope with the stressful environments in a different way. One potential way to handle environmental stress is via a mechanism known as phenotypic plasticity, which allows an organism to express different phenotypes depending on the biotic or abiotic envir

The chapter argues that the ghosts that haunt the Emily books are more than spectral. A non-normative queerness also pervades the story, provoking dissonances between what is desired and what is required, offering a sense of unhappiness that highlights the gap between the heteronormative structures of early-century Prince Edward Island and the gendered identities that resist. The chapters in this section also bring forward a theme that is important throughout the collection: empathy.
