Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery is a Canadian Classic children’s fiction published in 1908. It revolves around an eleven-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley who is vibrant, witty, has a vivid imagination and a positive outlook on life. This coming-of-age story begins as Anne Shirley arrives at the Green Gables house on Prince Edward Island, Canada, to assist the upper-middle-aged siblings Marilla and Gilbert Cuthbert on their farm. The Cuthbert siblings were disappointed to see a girl as they were expecting to foster a boy to assist with the field labor. Anne Shirley landed in

Abstract:
Anthropogenic activities in Prince Edward Island (Canada) have created a mosaic of fragmented uneven-aged forests and agricultural and pasture lands, as well as large amounts of edge habitat. Although the mammalian fauna of the province is largely composed of small mammals, no previous study has investigated how they respond to habitat fragmentation. I surveyed 14 forest fragments in Prince Edward Island National Park to assess the effects of habitat fragmentation on the abundance and diversity of small mammals. A total of 897 small mammals from 11 different species were captured during 10 231

Abstract:
The Coleoptera fauna of the province of Prince Edward Island has long been one of the most poorly known jurisdictions in Canada, with fewer than half the number of species recorded in the neighbouring provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. If much of the difference in species richness was due to less intensive sampling of the province compared to other parts of Atlantic Canada it was predicted that surveys with semiochemical-baited traps would detect many previously undetected species. Lindgren funnel traps were baited with longhorn beetle pheromones and host volatiles and placed in the c

This article is concerned with WH-words and WH-constructions in Prince Edward Island Acadian French (PEIAF). The principal data come from the French variety spoken in the small community of Abram-Village in the Evangeline region located in the northwest of the island. French is a minority language in Prince Edward Island, spoken as a first language by less than 6% of the population according to the 1986 census. The number of French speakers has declined sharply over the last several decades but in the Evangeline region the francophone population is stable and French enjoys both institutional s

In this article, we summarize research on Prince Edward Island where a Prince Edward Island teacher, identifying as an a/r/tographer, designed a digital and multiliteracies unit, as part of a directed studies course in her Master of Education program. Small in scope, this single participant case study was designed to give a fuller picture to three difficulties teachers often face when teaching new literacies. These are (1) applying multiliteracies theory, (2) thinking across literacies domains, and (3) assessing literacies holistically. Findings are derived from our six research conversations,

For nearly two centuries, the Amish of Canada inhabited only one province: Ontario. Since 2015, however, Amish families have started to migrate from Ontario to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Manitoba. This paper seeks to understand both why Amish families felt the need to move out of Ontario and why they chose those specific destinations. It argues that three factors structure Amish interprovincial migrations in Canada: farmland prices, the geography of existing Amish settlements in both Canada and the United States, and the political hospitality of provinces. Most specifically, the

Cassida rubiginosa Müller is newly recorded in Nova Scotia and on Prince Edward Island. Cassida flaveola Thunberg is newly recorded in Nova Scotia, on Prince Edward Island, and in the Maritime Provinces as a whole. The systematics, identification, introduction history, distribution, zoogeography, biology, parasitism, predation, host plant preferences, and biocontrol potential of both species are surveyed in detail. Early records of C. flaveola are also recounted and questions are posed with respect to its presence and origins in the region and whether it may have been introduced via human agen

The purpose of this practice note is to promote knowledge sharing and insight for evaluation practitioners and academics in other jurisdictions by reflecting on evaluation policy development in Prince Edward Island. The author describes the process of developing evaluation standards and guidelines for the Government of Prince Edward Island and the benefits of a systematic development process. The author reviews each phase of the process, including “Identify,” “Consult,” “Study,” “Consensus,” “External Review,” and “Endorsement.” The author concludes that the benefit of developing evaluation st
