Abstract:
This thesis deals with the subject of project management, primarily from the viewpoint of the development of a tool for project management support using the PRINCE2 methodology and the Unicorn Universe information system. The subject of the theoretical part is the definition of a project and project management and a description and a comparison of the most widely used project management standards, PRINCE2, PMI and IPMA. Subsequently, the emphasis is put on a detailed description of PRINCE2 with regard to its use in the next parts of the work. At the end of the theoretical part of the thesis the chapters are devoted to Unicorn Universe and to Unicorn Enterprise System Powered Company, which is a methodology used for company management. In the practical part, the author followed the recommended 4-phases process of the development of a new methodology set defined by the UESPC methodology; inception, elaboration, construction and transition. By means of the analysis in inception and elaboration stages and creation of A4 and High Level Concept documents, which describe specific ways how to implement various elements of PRINCE2into the Unicorn Universe, and the subsequent production of project management tool prototype, the author worked his way up to the construction stage, in which he designed and created definitions of meta artifacts and scripts for their later implementation in the final phase, called transition. In this phase metaartifacts were set up. They are templates for management and control artifacts and for other items necessary for the production of the methodological set, a final product of the thesis. At the end of thesis, the automation scripts, as proposed in the previous stage to verify the practical use of the thesis product, were assigned for implementation.

Abstract:
Software development projects often fail. Recently the agile software development frameworks have been massively adopted and used to overcome the root causes of the project failure. The use of the agile frameworks results in the more successful delivery of smaller software development projects. Companies however implemented in the past many generic project management frameworks and still use them to manage the full portfolio of their projects especially the medium and large software development projects. In such cases the agile development teams are organized in projects that are managed by project managers according to these generic project management frameworks. Both these frameworks must be analysed and tailored carefully to be successfully applied together. The objective of this dissertation thesis is to design the agile software development project management framework based on PRINCE2 and Scrum frameworks. The benefits of this new framework are the enrichment of the simple agile framework Scrum by project management elements and the enrichment of the generic project management framework PRINCE2 by the agile principles and agile team management practices. The first part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of project management and agile development frameworks. The main focus is on the current usage, the measurement of the project success and the identification of problems that the projects face to. Prior to the design of the new framework the research was executed in the global company to discover the specific problems in software development projects and to measure the actual project success rate. The framework is then designed in the next part. The framework was successfully implemented in the same global company and the project success rate was again analysed. The result is positive and the implementation of this framework resulted in the improved project success rate. Also two additional case studies were conducted to check the viability of the designed framework.

Abstract:
Thesis (MAcc (Accountancy))--University of Stellenbosch, 2007.
The successful implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System can help an organisation to redefine its business processes and enhance its competitive advantage. An ERP System Implementation is a transformation project, which changes the way an organisation thinks and acts about its business. An ERP System implementation is also a complex endeavour, and as such, it requires rigorous risk management. The understanding and management of risks relevant to ERP System Implementation Projects are critical in order to ensure that the project delivers on its objectives within the specified budget and timelines, and eventually realises the envisaged business benefits. The purpose of this study is to discuss how key risks relevant to ERP System Implementation Projects could be addressed by applying project management disciplines derived from the PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environment) project management methodology. This methodology was developed by the Office of Government Commerce in the United Kingdom. This study also provides a framework that could be applied at the outset and during an ERP System Implementation Project by business management, to understand the risks (“what could go wrong?”) and project management disciplines that should be applied to address these risks (“what must go right?”). This framework was derived by: • Identifying key risks relevant to ERP System Implementation Projects; • Mapping these key risks onto SAP Implementation phases to highlight where these risks could materialise in the SAP Implementation process; • Then mapping these key risks across PRINCE2 project management processes and SAP Implementation phases by creating the SAP Implementation Key Risks Map; and finally • Providing a detailed description of how to apply PRINCE2 project management disciplines to address each risk in the SAP Implementation Key Risks Map.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is modification of the teaching block IS/ICT Project Management at the Department of Information Technologies of the Prague University of Economics by the risk management issues. At present, insufficient space is given to this topic and this may thus create the feeling with the students that this is a marginal issue in the project management. The theoretical starting points to this thesis are above all the PMBOK methodologies of the PMI organization and further the PRINCE2 of the OGD organization. As these are the internationally acknowledged IT project management standards, therefore the key significance is given to them as to the theoretical starting points. Naturally, the part of these methodologies related to the project management is utilized of them. To sketch in the point of view of the issue, the RIPRAN methodology is added that is of Czech origin and was developed by doc. Ing. Branislav Lacko of the Brno University of Technology. This methodology deals only with the risk management. The own new point of view of the risk management that comes out from the above-mentioned theoretical presumptions is divided into following parts: planning, identification, qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, project simulation, evaluation. As the primary utilization of this thesis is for the students of the Prague University of Economics, namely above all for the students of the given course, this fact is taken into account also in the course of work with the risks. This means, among others, that it is not possible to implement the project according to the plan, and thus simulation tools are utilized for its implementation. All aspects coming out from this school environment have been included in the thesis. A tool in MS EXCEL table editor has been developed for the work with the risks where all steps of the risk management are carried out, namely including the data for subsequent creation of the outputs -- reports, analyses, etc. An advantage of this environment is the possibility of its utilization for automatic procedures. Full use of this characteristic has been made in the tool.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with Risk Management within large projects. It is still a hot topic, because risk is an inherent part of any project and significantly affects its outcome. That is why it is paied more and more attention to Project Risk Management. This thesis is written in collaboration with a renowned multinational IT company delivering these large projects. One of the project factors is uniqueness. Conditions in the world are rapidly changing and companies are trying to gain a competitive advantage in their own IT. Uniqueness is obviously very important factor of IT innovation and that is the reason, why many companies implement their changes as a project. These projects must be directed to a succesfull outcome, therefore many methodologies was created to manage it. Current project are under greater pressure on the duration and cost of supply while maintaining high quality, which in practice means that to deliver successful projects is becoming increasingly difficult. Therefore, there should be greater emphasis on risk management, so an event that may threaten the success of the project. It is needed to learn and look for better and more efficient ways of Risk Management. The main scope of this thesis is to compare two project management methodologies (Prince 2 and RUP -- Rational Unified Process) with internal methodology of chosen IT company from the perspective of risk management and then to compare the project practices with the methodologies, to find any anomalies or errors and provide suggestions for improvement. Another objective is to find out and describe project risk management trends, and introduce some tools to support project risk management.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the issue of project management in the development of custom software, particularly PRINCE2 methodology and agile approaches to software development. The work is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical. It describes the basic concepts of project management, project history and characterizes the selected software development methodologies. The classical methods are represented by waterfall and spiral models. In the context of the agile methods are described Scrum, Extreme Programming, Kanban and Scrumban. Regarding the standards of project management this thesis describes in detail the methodology PRINCE2 which at the end of the theoretical part will be compared to the standards of PMI and IPMA. The second part is practical and describes an adaptation of PRINCE2 for small projects and helps to decide which tools of PRINCE2 are required for small projects use and which ones can be ignored. In this thesis the process of managing product delivery within the PRINCE2 methodology is replaced by the agile methodology Scrumban that is adapted for a software development within analyzed organization. The thesis focuses on a more detailed description of the methodology Scrumban, established metrics and motivation within the development team.

Abstract:
This thesis's aim is to get a reader familiar with modern methods and techniques of agile project management. A short excurse into the history of project management will be provided as well as the galloping development of this area will be described. In the next part of this thesis we will focus on agile methods especially on the extreme project management, which is the main point of this thesis. For the adumbration of differences between classical and agile techniques, the PMBOK and PRINCE2 were chosen as a representative of classical techniques. Among agile methods extreme project management will attract our attention the most. This comparison will be a bridge between these two worlds, respectively between two different points of view on project management. For illustration of extreme project management, we will touch the extreme programming, however this thesis's aim is not only this programming technique, but is its integral part. Based on the information stated above, we can anticipate that we'll be focusing at the development of information systems. The reusult of this work should be a guide to a manager who reconsiders, or is forced to, a change towards the implementation of agile methods in the rigid environment. The reader should find in this compressed form which will be the embochure of the topic. Last but not least, it should be a compass in the agile management area.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose – This research aims to explore the effectiveness of utilising Benefits Realisation Management (BRM) as part of comprehensive success measures, emphasising the stage in-between appraisal and evaluation of projects in the UK public sector. Design/methodology/approach – The study is constructed as a qualitative case study. Semi-structured interviews are used as part of the inductive, exploratory approach to achieve the study's objectives. It employs an approach based on grounded theory for its analysis. Findings – This paper suggests that Benefits Realisation Management is not used effectively in the UK public sector during projects lifetime to control and monitor projects and ensure their success. The current reviews of projects and programmes, through their execution, may not be sufficient. Research limitations/implications – This study offers contributions to the project success literature and benefits management literature by adding empirically supported insights about BM utilisation during project reviews. The research may be limited primarily by the research method – predominantly the snow-balling data collection. The assumptions made about the UK public sector may limit the broader generalisation of the findings. Practical implications – This research may be used to advise the practising managers of the need to maintain benefits orientation after appraisal throughout a project's lifetime and after delivery. Project governance structures are advised to update and improve their current project review practices. The study additionally identifies possible obstacles to the process and biases. Originality/value – This paper attempts to fill a literature gap by providing empirical results that explore the success definition and measures and the effectiveness of BRM during project execution and gate reviews. Keywords: Benefits Management; Project Success; Project Performance; Performance Measurement; Public Sector. Paper type: Research Thesis

Grey, Johannes. "The development of a hybrid agile project management methodology / Grey, J." Thesis, North-West University, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/7004.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this study is to investigate whether a combination of agile system development methodologies (ASDMs) and project management methodologies (PMMs) can be used to develop a hybrid APMM that will have the ability to deliver information technology (IT) projects successfully in a constantly changing business and project environment. To achieve this objective, a literature review was conducted on the relatively well–established ASDMs by firstly defining a SDM and an ASDM. Each ASDM and its effectiveness are described, after which ASDMs in general are evaluated by considering their area of application, advantages and disadvantages. A comparison is then done of the seven different ASDMs using the four elements of an SDM (Huisman & Iivari, 2006:32) to emphasise some of the main similarities and differences amongst the different ASDMs. The seven ASDMs investigated in this study are Dynamic System Development Methodology, Scrum, Extreme Programming, Feature Driven Development, Crystal ASDMs ? Crystal Clear and Crystal Orange in particular, Adaptive Software Development and Lean Development. A literature review was also conducted on two structured and relatively well–established PMMs, PMBOK and PRINCE2, and a relatively new PMM called Agile Project Management. Each PMM is evaluated by considering their area of application, advantages, disadvantages and integration with other methodologies, after which a comparison is made of the different PMMs. The research was conducted by following a mixed methods research plan, which included the mixed methods research paradigm (combination of the interpretive research paradigm and the positivistic research paradigm), research methods (design science, case study and survey), quantitative and qualitative data–collection techniques (interviews and questionnaires), and dataanalysis techniques (cross–case and statistical). The reasons that projects fail and critical project success factors were studied and summarised to form the critical project success criteria, which were used to create the agile project success criteria. The ASDM best practice and PMM best practice frameworks were created by identifying whether a certain ASDM or PMM would satisfy a specific agile project success factor (APSF) of the agile project success criteria. The findings of each APSF in the respective frameworks were used as a foundation to develop a hybrid APMM (ver. 0) that would address the agile project success criteria. The hybrid APMM (ver. 0) was developed interpretively using design science (research approach) and constructivism by combining the strengths, addressing the weaknesses and bridging the gaps identified in the frameworks. The hybrid APMM (ver. 0) was then evaluated and improved by conducting an interpretive case study, which entailed interviewing participants from large and small organisations. Once the qualitative data collected had been analysed using cross–case analysis, the findings were incorporated in order to create an improved hybrid APMM (ver. 1). The hybrid APMM (ver. 1) too was evaluated and improved by conducting a survey, which entailed administering questionnaires to various respondents in order to collect quantitative and qualitative data. The findings of the statistical analysis of the data were also used to improve the hybrid APMM (ver. 1), resulting in the final hybrid APMM (ver. 2). This study demonstrates that a combination of ASDMs and PMMs can be used to develop a hybrid APMM with the ability to deliver IT projects in a constantly changing project and business environment.

Full text
Abstract:
The word prince on the XIXth century means rank, a fonction, a state or a way of life. Alexandre Dumas, like many other writers before him, will build his novels (Les Trois Mousquetaires, Vingt ans après, Le Vicomte de Bragelonne, La Reine Margot, Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) around this subject. But his prince will have some specificities. The first part of this work of research presents this prince by nature, his look, his big voice, commander voice, and his deep stare. Prince has an amazing body. Either he is handsome, or very strong, or charming, or he’s got this aura which makes him exceptional, or he is all that. His nature is the nature of a bigman : moral strength and/or spiritual, will and daring, worker, crafty aud strategist, memory and knowledge, reservation and mystery, concealment, pride and haughtiness, shrewdness or clearsightedness, kindness, rebirth and metamorphosis, baraka. The second part defines prince’s gouverment, that means his power, princess power, and prince and princess relationships. The third part definies the prince-hero. We specify the state of Dumas’ prince in the history and the History, we signal his need of the Other, we define clearly the literary context : romanticism, realism, baroque, classicism, and we say precisely what is personnal Dumas contibution on prince definition and what elements be found again in his prince. This prince has lived during baroque, classic and romantic times. This prince will have all these characteristics and will look like d’Artagnan myth creator. Dumas’ prince figure is the one of prince-hero, the one of the man who makes History, the one of the man who has divin essence, the one of the Christ
