Abstract:
Sufi Orders played a significant role in the religious, moral and spiritual development of people. Particularly, Naqshbandi Sufi Order gained distinguished fame around the globe due to its complete compatibility with Quran and Sunnah and abstain from invented heresies. One of the prominent Sufi Masters of Naqshband “Sheiek Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujdawani” introduced eight principles for spiritual enhancement. Shah Baha-ud-Din Naqshband added three more principles which were being recognized “Principles of Naqshbandi Sufi Order”. This research paper was designed to explore the effectiveness of these three of its eleven basic principles: Temporal pause (وقوف زمانى), Numerical pause (وقوف عددى), and Heart pause (وقوف قلبى). Qualitative and descriptive research approach was employed in this research for the analysis of data. For clear and better understanding, the article was divided into three sections. The first section gave a brief introduction to famous orders of Sufism, Second explained the Principles of Naqshbandi Sufi order formed by Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Gujdwani, Third looked into addendum of Hazrat Baha-ud-Din in the Naqshbandi principles and explored its effectiveness in psychological and spiritual advancement. The systematic review of literature concluded that these principles played a significant role in psychological, ethical and spiritual enhancement. On one hand they made a strong link between man and Allah in terms of Tawheed, love, and unshakeable trust while on the other hand, provided an opportunity of self-purification from wrong emotions, desires and sinful inclination which ultimately led towards good morals as well as promotion of social peace. It is therefore suggested that religious scholars in general, and Masters of Naqshbandi Sufi order should strictly advise their followers to follow these principles in order to get psychological and spiritual benefits.

Abstract:
Sufism plays a vital role in the process of spreading Islam in Indonesia, the key factor being inclusion and tolerance. Nowadays, the tolerant spirit of Sufi Islam is more and more challenged by certain intolerant Salafi groups. It seems that some Sufi groups in Indonesia have unfortunately adopted some of their attitudes and have become increasingly wary of other religions and unwilling to engage with them in a constructive dialogue. This negative trend creates tension within the Muslim community and in Indonesian society at large. After all, Indonesia is a country that is built on the principles of religious plurality. This article explores the teachings and practices of the Naqshbandi Haqqani Sufi order and their understanding of religious plurality. The study found that—despite the existing Salafi trend— the Naqshbandi shaykhs continue to praise religious plurality as one of God’s blessings. In their view, the sincere engagement in interreligious dialogue allows their followers to experience and actualize God’s Love. The Naqshbandi order also actively engages in interreligious dialogue with other communities in Jakarta and Kartasura.

Abstract:
Tolerance in Islam is a complex act, based on two foundations, that is, the nature of reward and that of prophecy. Whilst it does not lead to indifference, it also rejects any retreatment from the main beliefs of Islam. On the other hand, it reconciles with the rule of commanding right and forbidding wrong which emphasises being responsible towards any true or wrong belief and any good or bad behaviour. Additionally, Sufism is a mystical form of Islam that has flourished in the Muslim world for centuries. The Sufi emphasis on love as a central attribute of a believer shifts the focus from institution and ritual to the diffusion of love for God and for others. Therefore, the Muslim path leads to a kind of openness to others that the institutional aspect of the faith cannot embrace. Thus, this article will discuss Islamic and Sufi teachings on the importance of religious tolerance and human perfection.

Abstract:
<strong>Annotation</strong>: This academic article explores the concept of goodness within the doctrine of the Naqshbandi order, analyzing its unique characteristics and spiritual-moral foundations. The Naqshbandi Sufi order emphasizes the importance of following a singular path to divine closeness, with the ultimate goal being spiritual enlightenment through goodness and sincere intention. The paper discusses the Naqshbandi doctrine and its approach to understanding and practicing goodness in daily life. Key aspects such as "suhbat" (spiritual discourse), "dhikr" (remembrance of God), "sabr" (patience), and "ikhlas" (sincerity) are examined as essential moral virtues that facilitate inner purification and the realization of goodness. The concept of goodness in Naqshbandi thought transcends mere outward actions and is deeply tied to the purity of one's inner intention. This exploration offers a broader understanding of the Naqshbandi approach to religious ethics and its practical application in the pursuit of goodness. <strong>Keywords:</strong> Naqshbandi, Goodness, Sufism, Moral virtues, Dhikr, Suhbat, Sabr, Ikhlas, Spiritual purification, Divinity, Religious doctrine.

Abstract:
The Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufi order is a transnational religious organization. Founded by Shaykh Nazim al-Haqqani (b. 1922), the order spread throughout the Middle East in the 1950s and 1960s, and then to Britain in the 1970s. In 1990, Nazim’s student Shaykh Hisham Kabbani moved to the United States and established a branch of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani order there. The past fifteen years have seen the emergence of this order as one of the most widespread and politically active Sufi organizations in America. In this paper I ask: Why and how is it that the Naqshbandi-Haqqani order effectively functions as a public religion in America? To answer this question, I will use José Casanova’s theory of public religion to understand why and how the order has developed and maintained a public profile in the United States. I contend that the Naqshbandi-Haqqani order’s public activity is rooted in: (1) the Naqshbandi order’s history of public significance in Muslim societies; (2) the order’s theological and practical appreciation of religious and cultural pluralism; (3) the order’s transnational character; and (4) its adoption of certain elements of American civil religion.

Abstract:
The concept of the perfect man in Sufism is a profound and multifaceted idea that harmoniously combines spiritual, ethical and philosophical aspects. The perfect man, or "insan-i kamil", is perceived as the ideal that every seeker of truth strives for. He is not just a master of self-knowledge, but also a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds, personifying divine quality, love and compassion. This article explains the meaning of the expression "perfect man", analyzes the concept of the "perfect man" through the prism of the teachings of the Naqshbandi tariqa. Since its inception, this tariqa has inspired its followers on the path of spiritual growth using a variety of practices and principles. One of the key aspects that distinguishes the Naqshbandi tariqa from others is its ability to find harmony between spirituality and everyday life. This quality contributed to its spread from Central Asia and India, where followers actively participated in the social and political life of their countries. In our study, we intend to present the methodology of the Naqshbandi tariqa for achieving spiritual maturity, emphasize its importance among believers and assess the level of propaganda activities of the tariqa in the online space of Kazakhstan.

Abstract:
This study explores the concept of tolerance in Sufi sources, particularly within the Naqshbandiya tariqah, and its impact on interfaith harmony and social coexistence. The research aims to analyze the historical and philosophical foundations of tolerance in Sufism and its role in fostering justice, equality, and mutual respect among different religious and ethnic groups. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, utilizing literary analysis and historical interpretation of Sufi manuscripts, the Qur’an, and Hadith. Primary sources include classical Sufi texts and scholarly works from the Manghit period, which emphasize the significance of tolerance and community-oriented teachings in Sufi thought. The findings reveal that Sufi teachings strongly advocate for tolerance as a fundamental principle of justice, rooted in Islamic teachings and reflected in the practices of Sufi orders. The Naqshbandiya-Mujaddidiya tariqah, in particular, promotes an active social life alongside spiritual discipline, reinforcing social unity and ethical conduct. The study underscores that Sufi principles continue to play a crucial role in contemporary discussions on interfaith harmony and cultural integration, highlighting their relevance in addressing modern religious and social challenges

Abstract:
Abstract This article addresses the possibility that members of the Naqshbandi Sufi order exerted a greater influence at the royal court of Yaʿqub b. Uzun Hasan, leader of the Aq Qoyunlu dynasty, than previously acknowledged. In order to substantiate this claim, the article cites contemporary and near-contemporary Persian sources, notably the Tārikh-eʿālam-ārā-ye amini, the Rowzāt al-jenān va jannāt al-janān, and the Rashahāt-e ʿayn al-hayāt, each of which attests to the presence of Naqshbandis in the Aq Qoyunlu capital of Tabriz, and notes that the Naqshbandis most closely associated with Yaʿqub shared the distinction of being protégés of the classical Persian poet ʿAbd al-Rahmān Jāmi. In a related vein, the article suggests that it was Jāmi himself, in Salāmān o Absāl, and in a personal letter sent to Yaʿqub from his residence in Timurid Herat, who may have exerted the most significant Naqshbandi influence over the Aq Qoyunlu. The article therefore concludes that the existing historiography, which emphasizes the involvement of the Khalvati order in Aq Qoyunlu affairs, should be revised in order to recognize the probable influence of members of the Naqshbandi order, particularly Jāmi, at the Aq Qoyunlu court.

Abstract:
In general, studies about tariqa have put more emphasis on aspects related to ritual teachings and spiritual experience of the Sufi leaders. Little has been studied so far about how teachings of a Sufi order are related to cosmological concepts. This paper aims to analyze the cosmological concepts that are taught in the teachings of the Naqshbandi Sufi order in the district of Pauh, the city of Padang, West Sumatera. Data for this research are gathered through interviews, observation and documentation. These data are then analyzed with content analysis method. The research find that the Naqshbandi order perceives the notion of sharia as one that is intimately related with divine revelation and the universe’s law of order, a holistic approach that regards deeds of a sālik (a Sufi traveler) as part of the cosmic order. The existing seven types of sharia law outline seven layers of heaven and earth. Thus, a mystic attainment of martabah hakikat (degree of reality) represents seven layers of heaven and earth, which are manifested through amaliah lathāif (inner ‘worship’ rituals) - all of which are attributed to internal parts of the human soul, such as brain, heart, spleen, liver, lungs and all internal parts of the human physical body. Within the Naqshbandi Sufi order, all sālik aredevised to be able to attain close relationship with God, and to become an imagery of human’s mystical potentials in their everyday lives’ activities.

Abstract:
The moral crisis currently afflicting society has become a serious concern in various aspects of life, including social, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. One approach believed to effectively address this crisis is through moral development based on Sufism teachings, particularly the tariqa (order). This article discusses the implementation of the Naqshbandi teachings of the Jabal Qubis Foundation in nurturing the morals of its congregants. The objective of this research is to understand how the implementation of the Naqshbandi teachings, particularly at the Naqshbandi surau (prayer house) of the Jabal Qubis Foundation, fosters the morals of congregants in Pasaman District. The method employed is qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The data sources for this research were obtained from eight informants, consisting of one mursyid (spiritual guide) and seven congregants of the Naqshbandi Foundation. The results of the study indicate that: 1) The application of the tariqa teachings consists of three stages: baiat (initiation), tawajuh (spiritual focus), and suluk (spiritual journey); 2) The challenges faced by the mursyid include the presence of unseen beings within congregants who feel discontent, while challenges from the congregants arise internally, such as laziness in doing good deeds, and externally, including ridicule from family, society, friends, as well as economic factors.

Abstract:
The thesis studies two groups of the Naqshbandi Sufi Order. One is in Tripoli, north Lebanon, and has a loose membership of about 60 people. The other is based in London and has about 100 members, most of whom are Western Muslim converts. Sufism is Islamic mysticism. Sufis claim to emulate the mYbtical practices of the Prophet Muhammad which they believe were transmitted in their complete form to his first and fourth Caliphs. Sufi Orderb were first formalibed in the 9th c e n t u r ya . do and by -the- I-3th c en tu ryh-ad- gained an l.J ne a 5 y acceptance by orthodox Islam. They rapidly became an integral part of the Muslim world. The Naqshbandi Order c I a j m 5 tot r ace its des c e n t tot he fir s t Ca lip h and re g a r d s itself as the premier Sufi Order. The pro c e s se s 0 f model insation and industrial is ation led to drastic reduction in the influence of the Orders. Associated with this was the growing domination of a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam which denied the orthodoxy of Sufism and today dominates Muslim religious expression. The thesis examines the contemporary role of a branch of a Sufi Order in the West and the East. The discrepancy between the values of Sufism and those of the modern world are considered, as is the influence of politics on the survival of the Sufi Orders in the Middle East. Both groups contain elements of Mahdism which is a type of Muslim millenarianism. This is considered as well as the different ways in which the two groups interpret and react to these beliefs. Throughout the thesis attention is paid to the internal logic of Sufism's beliefs and practices.

Koseff, Justin Adam. "The individual and the social order in Mill and Hegel : seeking common principles in liberal and communitarian ancestry." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1005624.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis seeks to establish a significant commonality and compatibility between the principles underpinning the political and social philosophies of GWF Hegel and John Stuart Mill. The role of the individual and the social order in both their theories is discussed and assessed separately and in turn in reference to their respective seminal works on the proper structure, principles and function of modern political infrastructure. Through an interpretation of the fundamental tenets and goals of their theories of the social order I argue for a coherent modern reconstruction of their doctrines, within which I locate parallels and contrasts as they apply. Both theorists as ultimately put forward similar arguments for freedom as an intersubjectively·developed capacity, the ideal social order as rational framework for the management of ethical and political engagement, linked to a social holism that ties individual and social progress inextricably. A respect for individual particularity of perspective and practice is integral both of their social frameworks, but that such a space must be harmonised within a rational political community worthy of individual obligation. Finally their social and political theories can be understood as complementary, each providing insights which the other lacks. Mill suffers from an insufficient regard for the social basis of identity and interconnected nature of the modern institutional framework, while Hegel displays an insufficient regard for Mill's caveats concerning the repressive potential of institutional structures and the dangers of overly empowered bureaucracies. In conclusion key elements of the two theorists' projects stand as separate but not in any way fundamentally opposed to each other. This points to the possibility of a via media between a politics of individualism and a politics of community, suggesting strong potential for reconciliation between liberal and communitarian perspectives.

Abstract:
This paper presents a novel semantics for the mA* epistemic action language that takes into consideration dynamic per-agent observability of events. Different from the original mA* semantics, the observability of events is defined locally at the level of possible worlds, giving a new method for compiling event models. Locally defined observability represents agents' uncertainty and false-beliefs about each others' ability to observe events. This allows for modeling second-order false-belief tasks where one agent does not know the truth about another agent's observations and resultant beliefs. The paper presents detailed constructions of event models for ontic, sensing, and truthful announcement action occurrences and proves various properties relating to agents' beliefs after the execution of an action. It also shows that the proposed approach can model second order false-belief tasks and satisfies the robustness and faithfulness criteria discussed by Bolander (2018, https://doi.org/10. 1007/978-3-319-62864-6_8).

We introduce Qiana, a logic framework for reasoning on formulas that are true only in specific contexts. In Qiana, it is possible to quantify over both formulas and contexts to express, e.g., that ``everyone knows everything Alice says''. Qiana also permits paraconsistent logics within contexts, so that contexts can contain contradictions. Furthermore, Qiana is based on first-order logic, and is finitely axiomatizable, so that Qiana theories are compatible with pre-existing first-order logic theorem provers.

Abstract:
We study extensions of expressive decidable fragments of first-order logic with circumscription, considering in particular the two-variable fragment FO^2, its extension C^2 with counting quantifiers, and the guarded fragment GF. We prove that if only unary predicates are minimized (or fixed) during circumscription, then decidability of logical consequence is preserved. For FO^2 the complexity increases from NExp to NExp^NP-complete, for GF it (remarkably!) increases from 2Exp to Tower-complete, and for C^2 it remains open. We also consider querying circumscribed knowledge bases whose ontology is a GF sentence, showing that the problem is decidable for unions of conjunctive queries, Tower-complete in combined complexity, and elementary in data complexity. Already for atomic queries and ontologies that are sets of guarded existential rules, however, for every k &gt; 0 there is an ontology and query that are k-Exp-hard in data complexity.

Abstract:
We study the time complexity of weighted first-order model counting (WFOMC) over the logical language with two variables and counting quantifiers. The problem is known to be solvable in time polynomial in the domain size. However, the degree of the polynomial, which turns out to be relatively high for most practical applications, has never been properly addressed. First, we formulate a time complexity bound for the existing techniques for solving WFOMC with counting quantifiers. The bound is already known to be a polynomial with its degree depending on the number of cells of the input formula. We observe that the number of cells depends, in turn, exponentially on the parameters of the counting quantifiers appearing in the formula. Second, we propose a new approach to dealing with counting quantifiers, reducing the exponential dependency to a quadratic one, therefore obtaining a tighter upper bound. It remains an open question whether the dependency of the polynomial degree on the counting quantifiers can be reduced further, thus making our new bound a bound to beat.

Elsayed, Amr. "Engineering Principles & Cost-Effective Solutions for Corrosion Control." In CONFERENCE 2025. AMPP, 2025. https://doi.org/10.5006/c2025-00432.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Corrosion is a major problem in the oil &amp; gas industry. A huge expenditure is spent every year on corrosion damages. Based on international studies, the cost of corrosion ranges from 4 – 6% of the gross national product of some countries. Several corrosion control techniques are used to maintain the integrity of equipment. Corrosion control techniques either increase the corrosion resistance of materials or reduce the corrosivity of the environment. Selection of a suitable corrosion control method requires technical and economical evaluation of the applicable options in order to have a cost-effective solution. This work introduces the engineering of some cost-effective solutions that enhance integrity and corrosion control with measurable cost savings &amp; avoidance. Some of the solutions done within the refinery or using corporate resources. Minor changes in operations were found to be very effective in increasing the service life of equipment, eliminating the cost of continuous chemical injection, and reducing the flaring. Representative methodologies used for equipment health checks reduced the maintenance and replacement cost. Engineered Composite repair restored operating unit timely and saved cost of outage and maintenance. The aim of the work is to provide corrosion engineering principles and examples that economically enhance plant reliability.

Abstract:
The paper investigates how to evaluate elements in complex argumentation frameworks, where both arguments and attacks are weighted and might be attacked by arguments. We propose the first gradual semantics that assign a numerical value to every argument and attack. The value represents the acceptance (seriousness) degree of an argument (attack). We start by highlighting various technical challenges facing semantics in such complex settings, including how to deal with attacks vs arguments, and how to combine their values. We present principles that describe different strategies offered to semantics to meet such challenges. Then, we introduce various semantics per strategy. For instance, some semantics evaluate attacks and arguments in the same way while others, called hybrid, treat them differently. Finally, the principles are used to compare the plethora of novel semantics. The final result is a catalogue of semantics with different formal guarantees and behaviours.

Full text
Abstract:
In this research the technology of complex Markov chains, i.e. Markov chains with a memory is applied to forecast financial time-series. The main distinction of complex or high-order Markov chains [1] and simple first-order ones is the existing of after effect or memory. The high-order Markov chains can be simplified to first-order ones by generalizing the states in Markov chains. Considering the “generalized state” as the sequence of states makes a possibility to model high-order Markov chains like first-order ones. The adaptive method of defining the states is proposed, it is concerned with the statistic properties of price returns [2]. According to the fundamental principles of quantum measurement theories, the measurement procedure impacts not only on the result of the measurement, but also on the state of the measured system, and the behaviour of this system in the future remains undefined, despite of the precision of the measurement. This statement, in our opinion, is general and is true not only for physical systems, but to any complex systems [3].

Abstract:
How can education authorities and organisations develop empowered, highly respected, strongly performance-normed, contextually embedded teaching professionals who cultivate student learning? This challenge is particularly acute in many low- and middle-income education systems that have successfully expanded school enrolment but struggle to help children master even the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic. In this primer, we synthesise research from a wide range of academic disciplines and country contexts, and we propose a set of principles for guiding the journey toward an empowered, effective teaching profession. We call these principles the 5Cs: choose and curate toward commitment to capable and committed teachers. These principles are rooted in the fact that teachers and their career structures are embedded in multi-level, multi-component systems that interact in complex ways. We also outline five premises for practice, each highlighting an area in which education authorities and organisations can change the typical status quo approach in order to apply the 5Cs and realise the vision of empowered teaching profession.

Idris, Iffat. Documentation of Survivors of Gender-based Violence (GBV). Institute of Development Studies (IDS), 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2021.103.

Full text
Abstract:
This review is largely based on grey literature, in particular policy documents and reports by international development organizations. While there was substantial literature on approaches and principles to GBV documentation, there was less on remote service delivery such as helplines – much of this only in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, very little was found on actual examples of GBV documentation in developing contexts. By definition, gender featured strongly in the available literature; the particular needs of persons with disabilities were also addressed in discussions of overall GBV responses, but far less in GBV documentation. GBV documentation refers to the recording of data on individual GBV incidents in order to provide/refer survivors with/to appropriate support, and the collection of data of GBV incidents for analysis and to improve GBV responses. The literature notes that there are significant risks associated with GBV documentation, in relation to data protection. Failure to ensure information security can expose survivors, in particular, to harm, e.g. reprisal attacks by perpetrators, stigma, and ostracism by their families/ communities. This means that GBV documentation must be carried out with great care. A number of principles should always be applied when documenting GBV cases in order to protect survivors and prevent potential negative effects: do no harm, survivor-centered approach, survivor autonomy, informed consent, non-discrimination, confidentiality, and data protection (information security).

Abstract:
The basis of electrochemical cell gas sensor technology is presented in the context of electrochemical cell portable analyzers for emissions testing of NOx and CO. This paper presents a modified test method approach and QA/QC criteria that supplement the project goal of assessing existing portable analyzer test methods and protocols for appropriate QA/QC requirements. The goal of a modified method is to minimize testing costs while ensuring data quality. The modified method leverages the inherent linearity of electrochemical cell technology, based on fundamental scientific principles, to employ single point calibration and order of magnitude span gases. Special considerations are included for near zero emissions testing (e.g., concentrations that are single digit parts per million by volume). Further demonstration and validation of a modified method through laboratory and field testing is recommended.
