Despite the high incidence of rape in the United States, there are comparatively low rates of reports, arrests, and convictions. More research is needed to examine the factors that influence trial decisions for rape cases. This research investigated the balance of expectation and “surprise” in visual perception, recording brain activation with electroencephalography, and using novel multivariate data analysis. Testing different visual categories, we demonstrated that, within 250ms of stimulus presentation, top-down predictive processing enables the brain to detect mismatch of within-category identity (surprise) based on contextual probability (expectation). Other people's internal emotional states can sometimes be perceived through the physical responses they cause. These responses are mimicked, or embodied, by viewers, and this process is believed to aid prediction of other people's feelings and future actions. La protéine prion Sup35p représente un tel modèle car elle est non associée à une maladie. I consider a model for the control of criminality in cities. The model was developed during my REU at UCLA. The model is a system of partial differential equations that simulates the behavior of criminals and where they may accumulate, hot spots. I have proved a prior bounds for the partial differential equations in both one-dimensional and higher dimensional case, which proves the attractiveness and density of criminals in the given area will not be unlimitedly high. In addition, I have found some local bifurcation points in the model.
