Abstract Resistance to impact fracture and high flexural strength are desirable properties of denture base acrylics. The purpose of this laboratory study was to determine the Izod impact strength, the flexural strength, the flexural modulus, and the yield distance for four premium denture resins. Bar specimens 86 x 11 x 3 mm of Lucitone 199, Fricke Hi-I, ProBase Hot, and Sledgehammer Maxipack were fabricated following the manufacturer's instructions for heat processing. The bars were surface finished using silicon carbide paper to 600 grit. Ten specimens from three lots of each material were m

Polymethylmethacrylate is the material of choice for prosthetic bases. Depending on the type of polymerization, acrylic resins may present some mechanical weaknesses that may lead to the failure of a prosthesis. The microhardness and flexural strength of a dental material determine its applicability. The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the in vitro Knoop microhardness and flexural strength of a thermopolymerizable (Probase Hot) and an autopolymerizable (Probase Cold) resin, according to ISO 20759-1: 2013.

Abstract:
Abstract The effect of probe geometry on the re-wetting behavior and heat extraction of cylindrical probes during forced convective quenching in laboratory-scale equipment was studied. Flat-end and hemispherical-end cylindrical probes made of AISI 304 stainless steel and instrumented with type-K thermocouples were considered. Two free-stream velocities (0.2 and 0.6 m/s) and two initial probe temperatures (850 and 950°C) were studied. The quench medium was water at 60°C. The inverse boiling curves and videos obtained showed that the vapor film stage lasts longer when using flat-end probes. This

Abstract The cooling behavior of neem and mineral oil was obtained using instrumented ISO 9950 Inconel probe. Flash, fire points and the viscosity of quenching media were measured. These oils were used to quench harden AISI 1045 and AISI 1090 grade steel probes of section diameters 25 and 50 mm. (The top and bottom faces of steel probes were coated with insulating paste to minimize end effects of heat transfer during quenching.) This paper investigates the geometry of hot-wire anemometers using electron microscopy to establish the dimensions of six Dantec single-wire probes (55P11). Measurements were conducted on photographs using a simple in house Python script. The obtained dimensions were then applied in theoretical calculations of the temperature distribution along the wires to demonstrate the significance of accurate probe geometry determination.

Abstract The phase transformation model is coupled with the inverse heat conduction problem (IHCP) to estimate the steel/quenchant interfacial heat flux. Cylindrical steel probes having section thicknesses 25 and 50mm, respectively, and lengths 30mm were made from medium and high carbon steels (AISI 1045 and 52100). The probes were quenched in mineral, neem, and sunflower oils. The cooling curves at the centre and near the surface of steel probes were recorded. The near-surface cooling curve was used as a reference temperature data in the IHCP algorithm for the estimation of surface heat flux,

Development of test kit for detection of rifampin resistance in mycobacterium tuberculosis by PCR-reverse line blot hybridization. Abstract:
A genetic test by PCR-reverse line blot hybridization was developed for rapid detection of mycobacterium tuberculosis and rifampin resistance simultaneously. Duplex PCR targeting IS 6110 and rpoB gene was employed to detect M. tuberculosis and the rpoB fragment with rifampin resistance hot spot region. The analytical sensitivity of duplex PCR for IS 6110 and rpoB gene was found to be 10 and 100fg of M.Tuberculosis H37Rv DNA, respectively. Since duplex PCR was specific to M. tuberculosis complex, it was thus able to be applied directly in clinical specimens. Oligonucleotide probes were designed

The ultrasonic treatment process strengthens metals by increasing nucleation and decreasing grain size in an energy efficient way, without having to add anything to the material. The goal of this research endeavor was to use machine learning to automatically measure cavitation area in the Ultrasonic Treatment process to understand how amplitude influences cavitation area. For this experiment, a probe was placed into a container filled with turpentine because it has a similar viscosity to liquid aluminum. The probe gyrates up and down tens of micrometers at a frequency of 20 kHz, which causes c

Citrus, like many other tropical and subtropical fruit are sensitive to chilling temperatures. However, application of a pre-storage temperature conditioning (CD) treatment at 16°C for 7 d or of a hot water brushing (HWB) treatment at 60°C for 20 sec remarkably enhances chilling tolerance and reduces the development of chilling injuries (CI) upon storage at 5°C. In the current research, we proposed to identify and characterize grapefruit genes that are induced by CD, and may contribute to the acquisition of fruit chilling tolerance, by two different molecular approaches: cDNA array analysis an

To cause disease, plant viruses must replicate and spread locally and systemically within the host. Cell-to-cell virus spread is mediated by virus-encoded movement proteins (MPs), which modify the structure and function of plasmodesmata (Pd), trans-wall co-axial membranous tunnels that interconnect the cytoplasm of neighboring cells. Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) employ a single MP for cell- cell spread and for which CP is not required. The PIs, Beachy (USA) and Epel (Israel) and co-workers, developed new tools and approaches for study of the mechanism of spread of TMV that lead to a partial iden
