Abstract Resistance to impact fracture and high flexural strength are desirable properties of denture base acrylics. The purpose of this laboratory study was to determine the Izod impact strength, the flexural strength, the flexural modulus, and the yield distance for four premium denture resins. Using the URAN VLBI network, we studied an angular structure of the 3C268.4 quasar at the decameter wavelengths. It is shown, that the brightness distribution of the source in the decameter range differs significantly from the decimeter image of the quasar. At low frequencies, the source model consists of two extended components and a compact feature, whose sizes and positions coincide with the parameters of lobes and one of the hot spots of 3C268.4 observed in the decimeter range. The radio emission of the second hot spot at decameter wavelengths is quite weak and does not significantly affec

We confirmed the binary nature of the Be star 7 Vul, derived a more accurate spectroscopic orbit with an orbital period of 69.d4212±0.d0034, and improved the knowledge of the basic physical elements of the system. Analyzing available photometry and the strength of the Hα emission, we also document the long-term spectral variations of the Be primary. In addition, we confirmed rapid light changes with a period of 0.d5592, which is comparable to the expected rotational period of the Be primary, but note that its amplitude and possibly its period vary with time. Abstract We present a detailed study of the X-ray emission from PSR B1055–52 using XMM-Newton observations from 2019 and 2000. The phase-integrated X-ray emission from this pulsar is poorly described by existing models of neutron star atmospheres. Instead, we confirm that, similar to other middle-aged pulsars, the best-fitting spectral model consists of two blackbody components, with substantially different temperatures and emitting areas, and a nonthermal component characterized by a power law. Our phase-resolved X-ray spectral analysis using this three-component model reveals variations in t

Soft TiB2-BN-C hetero-modulus ceramics were sintered with the assistance of in-situ reactions during the hot pressing of TiN-B4C precursors. TiB2 formation was observed already after the hot pressing at 1100 °C, remaining the only phase identifiable by XRD even after sintering at 1500 °C. Analysis of reaction kinetics allows us to assume that the most probable reaction controlling stage is boron atoms sublimation and gas phase transfer from B4C to TiN. Reactive sintering route allows almost full densification of TiB2-BN-C composite ceramics at 1900 °C. The processes enable the formation of mul

ABSTRACTEchinocandins represent a new antifungal group with potent activity againstCandidaspecies. These lipopeptides inhibit the synthesis of β-1,3-glucan, the major cell wall polysaccharide. Acquired resistance or reduced echinocandin susceptibility (RES) is rare and associated with mutations in two “hot spot” regions of Fks1 or Fks2, the probable β-1,3-glucan synthases. In contrast, many fungi demonstrate intrinsic RES for reasons that remain unclear. We are usingSaccharomyces cerevisiaeto understand the basis for RES by modeling echinocandin-Fks interaction. Mechanical properties are of special importance for thermogenerator module applications where thermogenerator branches may undergo elevated thermal stresses due to large temperature differences at the modules. Since extrusion is typically a high-temperature process the structure of extruded materials is controlled by the plastic deformation in multiple slip systems resulting in the formation of a final deformed structure.
