Abstract:
This thesis examines the politics of privacy protection, focusing on how privacy advocates contest a moral equivalence at the core of the 'problem of going dark' – a claim that privacy-enhancing technologies enable the evasion of criminal investigations. Using the analytical constructs of signification, subjectivation, and identification, the thesis argues that Australian privacy advocates contest this claim via the articulation of a civic duty to disrupt the relations of domination that enable 'morally arbitrary' surveillance powers. Overall, the thesis argues this property of 'moral arbitrar

Associating self-gravitating systems of degenerate fermionic matter to DM halos of dwarf galaxies leads to an interesting scenario (Destri et al.,2012), for which these kind of galaxies could be considered as astrophysical objects supported by a pressure having quantum origin. The inequality that defines the Pauli exclusion principle, in fact, can be propagated, in the sense that it can be used to derive other bounds on different quantities; they in turn can be exploited in order to solve some of the problems that the standard cosmological model is facing today, among them, the Core-Cusp Probl

Going dark is a technical term within the world of theatre. It has the double meaning of lights out during rehearsal and a temporary venue closure for maintenance and resetting. In this way it speaks to matters of care in the form of attending to one’s environs while resisting the excess of twenty-four hour productivity. This thesis appropriates going dark as a practice and methodology. In both instances it considers how deviation from the familiar; steady observation; and a kind of slow liveliness might reveal delight-full throughways for a less human-centric worlding. In this study I present two N-body computer simulations of the Bullet Cluster (1E 0657-56) merging system. The models are fully self-consistent, meaning that all gravitational forces are determined by the distribution of the particles. Initial positions and velocities of the two clusters are determined by solving a two-body problem. Post-collision time period shows an increase in the line-of-sight velocity dispersion in both clusters, and is consistent with previous Bullet Cluster studies.
