Electrical connectors are very sensitive parts in an electronic system. The actual meaning of reliability and the problems associated with determining it, are often not right understood. Abstract Pulp and paper mill boiler feedwater needs to be of high purity to maintain safe, reliable boiler operation. When feedwater contamination occurs, it may cause either high or low boiler water pH excursions, steam contamination, or insulating deposits. Common boiler feedwater contaminants are silica, black liquor, hardness, and iron. For each of these contaminants, this paper discusses sources of contamination, potential problems caused by each particular contaminant, and recommended actions to be taken when contamination occurs.

Abstract A number of recent corrosion and stress corrosion cracking problems on some major North American gas transmission pipelines prompted the Pipeline Research Committee of the American Gas Association to undertake a survey of the present industry practices for coating pipelines. This survey focused on these recent coating problems and particularly those relating to the use of tape coatings. A review of coating preference for both new pipelines and rehabilitation programs was also undertaken. The responses, which were received from twenty-seven different companies, are discussed.
