Abstract:
Research background: The evaluation of the predictive strength of MIP indicators in relation to crises is extremely important for the process of coordinating the economic policies of the EU countries. MIP is one of the pillars of the economic crisis prevention procedure. Predictive power of individual indicators has not been tested before their introduction. Purpose of the article: Evaluation of the predictive strength of fourteen MIP indicators in relation to multidimensional crises in the EU countries. Methods: We used ordered probit model to test the ability of MIP indicators to correctly predict episodes of “multidimensional crises” (as defined by the authors) in the period between 2008 and 2017 in all EU Member States. Findings & Value added: We defined “multidimensional crises”, combining several negative phenomena into one limited dependent variable. This work is also novel in its application of probit regression to test the predictive strength of MIP indicators with an ordered probit model. We identified five MIP variables which were statistically significant in predicting “multidimensional crises” for all EU countries: net international investment position, nominal unit labour cost index, house price index, private sector credit flow and general government gross debt. Other variables turned out to be less important or not effective in crises prediction.

Abstract:
Background/Aim. Gingival biotype can have a significant impact on the outcome of the periodontal therapeutic procedures and on the predictability of their aesthetic outcome. There is a strong correlation between the types of biotype and the potential gingival recession after restorative, periodontal and implant surgical procedures. Therefore, accurate identification of gingival biotypes, before initiating these procedures, is one of the significant predictive factors for their success. The aim of this study was to evaluate reliability of accurate gingival biotype determination with the use of visual method, periodontal and trans-gingival probing compared to the direct measurement method. Methods. This prospective study involved 33 patients indicated for the apical root resection in the intercanine sector of the upper jaw. Gingival biotype identification was performed in all of the patients using the following techniques: 1) visual method; 2) periodontal probe technique; 3) trans-gingival probing; 4) direct measurement after flap elevation was performed. Statistical analysis of the obtained data was performed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the visual method, periodontal probing method and trans-gingival probing method, in relation to the direct measurement method, used as a gold standard, to discriminate the gingival thickness biotype (thin versus thick). Results. The overall accuracy of the tested diagnostic procedures, compared to direct gingival biotype measurement, was: 66.7% for visual method; 78.8% for periodontal probing; and 97.0% for trans-mucosal probing. Conclusion. Periodontal probing method can be recommended for gingival biotype determination as a routine method, due to the fact that its sensitivity and overall accuracy is higher compared to the visual method. The trans-gingival method, in terms of sensitivity and comprehensive accuracy, almost completely coincides with the direct method, but it is more invasive compared to periodontal probing method and it has to be conducted in local anesthesia.

Binary logit and bivariate probit models were used to investigate the investment behavior of farmers relative to two energy-conserving assets, heat-recovery systems and precoolers. The bivariate probit procedure was useful in correcting for self-selectivity bias. Holdout samples and cross-validation procedures were used to develop true model statistics. Farm size, educational level of the operator, and the type of milking system in use were the important factors influencing investment behavior.

Abstract:
Of twenty-three agricultural economics conjoint analyses conducted between 1990 and 2001, seventeen used interval-rating scales, with estimation procedures varying widely. This study tests cardinality assumptions in conjoint analysis when interval-rating scales are used, and tests whether the ordered probit or two-limit tobit model is the most valid. Results indicate that cardinality assumptions are invalid, but estimates of the underlying utility scale for the two models do not differ. Thus, while the ordered probit model is theoretically more appealing, the two-limit tobit model may be more useful in practice, especially in cases with limited degrees of freedom, such as with individual-level conjoint models.

Context. The initial periodontal examination which includes full-mouth periodontal probing is one of the discomforting procedures for a patient.Aim.To evaluate the efficacy of two local anesthetic gels in the reduction of pain during periodontal probing using Florida probe in CGP patients in comparison with manual probing.Materials and Methods. Ninety systemically healthy patients with moderate to severe CGP patients were recruited. In each patient, the quadrants were randomly assigned to manual probing with UNC-15 probe, probing with Florida probe, and Florida probing with lidocaine 10% gel and with benzocaine 20% gel. In the quadrants undergoing probing with anesthetic gels, the sites were isolated and the gel was injected using syringe and a blunt-end cannula. Pain was measured using 10 mm horizontal VAS.Statistical Analysis. The analysis was carried out using SPSS version 18. The comparison of mean VAS scores was done using repeated measures ANOVA with post hoc Bonferroni test.Results. Mean VAS for manual probing was significantly more than Florida probing. Further, the mean VAS score for Florida probing was higher than the two gels.Conclusion. It is suggested that the gels might be useful in reducing pain experienced during full-mouth periodontal probing in patients with CGP.

Abstract:
The slowness of judicial procedures is a symptom of the inefficiency of justice and is also one of its causes. The usual duration of civil proceedings is jeopardized by a number of factors, such as the increase in litigiousness, the lack of infrastructure of the judiciary bodies and insufficient use of the new information technologies, the deficient educational level of judges and lawyers, and particularly the absence of an effective repression to abusive conducts of the parties to a lawsuit. The scope of this paper is to identify the improper procedural practices that give rise or contribute to the slowness of justice and to establish objective parameters to repress it. For such purpose, a study was performed on the main aspects related to abusive practices carried out by the litigants, which infringe the right to a reasonable length of proceedings, and bring about an adverse effect in court and out of court, both to the parties involved in the litigation and to the dignity of the jurisdiction. Therefore, the paper searches to demonstrate that ethics, commitment, and cooperation are key components to the solution of the intricate problem of procedural slowness, and that no legislative amendments are required to solve it: in light of such values, the proper application of the existing repressive mechanisms for inequitable conducts is sufficient to guarantee the reasonable length of court proceedings.

This thesis has as its object the procedural sanctions for misconduct in civil enforcement. The methodological approach, observing the concentration area of the program is given by the fact that currently the executive activity, represented by the execution of a sentence or the autonomous process execution, is considered essential to the effectiveness of judicial protection . What happens is that some factors have influenced the performance of this type of lawsuit. Among the factors is the disrespect, strong and steady, the duties of procedural fairness in executive screen. The attacks on the dignity of Justice earn several ways: disrespect for the court order to indicate the goods are seized, the challenge and fulfillment of sentence manifestly dilatory embargoes, fraud enforcement, disposition of property seized, bringing undue executions, abuse of the right of registration certificate of the distribution of execution, etc. To sanction the creditor and the debtor, the system adopts the protective-repressive pattern of conduct discouraging, materializing through the fines and the obligation to repair damage. The legislature of little worth premiais sanction measures whose purpose is to promote encouraging conduct. By analyzing the structure of the disciplinary system in CPC / 73, it appears that the same is not meeting your functional expectations: to punish and educate. The revisiting of concepts and ideas is essential to building a new concept of procedural sanction, based on constructivist pedagogical interactionism. This new ideal penalty is established because of the need for transformation of the procedural subjects pipelines. In most, sees the need to expand the list of penalties, turning the research at this point for the implementation of restrictive measures of rights, which are sparse in the legislation. Thus defends the imposition of such sanctions as atypical modes in addition to the typical. The judge with their explicit and implicit powers and duties can take advantage of these measures. Given the normative principle of proportionality, by variants of the necessity and appropriateness, the judge can apply them, without, however, undermining fundamental rights. In addition to the restrictive sanctions, the system needs to incorporate positive measures (premiais), to meet their ends, so that makes the proposal of a prize for those who litigarem responsibly. It is proposed for the effective adoption of these measures, a bill changer law of the CPC. Then defends the idea in the sense that a significant structural change must occur in the sanctioning system, for that unfair and bad faith practices are transformed into probas practices. The deductive method is with the use of technical analysis of relevant literature and case law related to

Abstract:
For centuries, the theory and principles of diplomatics have played a role in the work of European archivists. In North America, however, its relevance is still under scrutiny. This thesis employs diplomatic analysis to test its validity when applied to modern documents and procedures. To investigate the significance of diplomatic methodology and analysis, this thesis first discusses the recent history and structure of the British Columbia court system. It then examines a selection of case files from the civil, probate and bankruptcy registries, and it assigns the documents within to one of the six phases of a procedure: initiative, inquiry, consultation, deliberation, deliberation control, and execution. The study concludes by discussing the diplomatic character of the procedures and its importance in the understanding of modern records. More specifically, it outlines how diplomatics and procedural analysis can assist records professionals in the development of classification systems and retention and disposition schedules; the design of automated records management systems; and archival appraisal, arrangement and description.

Abstract:
AbstractMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an emerging method to obtain valuable functional and structural information about the kidney noninvasively. Before performing specialized MR measurements for probing tissue structure and function, some essential practical steps are needed, which are common for most applications. Here we describe in a step-by-step manner how to (1) achieve the double-oblique slice orientation coronal-to-the-kidney, (2) adapt the scan protocol for avoiding aortic flow artifacts and covering both kidneys, (3) perform localized shimming on the kidney, and (4) check perfusion in the large renal blood vessels using time-of-flight (TOF) angiography. The procedures are tailored to preclinical MRI but conceptionally are also applicable to human MRI.This chapter is based upon work from the COST Action PARENCHIMA, a community-driven network funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) program of the European Union, which aims to improve the reproducibility and standardization of renal MRI biomarkers. This experimental protocol chapter explains the initial and essential MRI steps that precede specific functional and structural MR imaging techniques (T1- and T2*-mapping, DWI, ASL, etc.), which are described in separate chapters.

Abstract:
The desire to assure the authenticity of documents and conciliar acts observed in the councils of the fifth century finds exaggerated expression in the two later ecumenical councils of Constantinople (680–1) and Nicaea II (787). In dramatic style, the necessity to be dealing with ‘correct’ and authentic acts is performed through almost theatrical acting in the council(s). Under the personal supervision of the emperor and based on observations of differently numbered and written quires, at Constantinople the ‘falsifications’ of the acts of the previous ecumenical council are in this way detected, and expunged. At Nicaea, the patriarch and council demonstratively act out the probity of their own procedures—and thus of their theological judgement—by means of philological and codicological scrutiny, described in detail in the acts.

Abstract:
The Maastricht Treaty raised the standards for transparency in the European Union to new supranational levels. Prior to Maastricht, transparency in member-state budgeting depended largely upon domestic institutions, both public and private, to assess the size, composition, and quality of public finance. Transparency at the member-state level served the traditional functions of encouraging democratic political accountability, promoting political control over bureaucratic institutions, crafting fiscal policy, and ensuring probity in financial management. Transparency for ensuring macro-budgetary treaty compliance promotes EU integration while helping to assure an often doubtful European public, international financial markets, and world press that the Economic and Monetary Union's (EMU) convergence process and excessive deficit procedure rely on reasonably credible budgetary data. This chapter discusses macro-budgetary rules and the creation of compliance information systems, transparency through bureaucratic politics, and the role of Eurostat in budgetary surveillance. It also examines the twin challenges to EU budgetary transparency, those of disclosure and interpretation, faced by Greece.

Abstract:
This chapter concludes Freedom of Expression as Self-Restraint by probing briefly a few of the knotty procedural issues that attend the efforts by any system of governance to implement the moral principle of freedom of expression (or, rather, to implement some constitutional or statutory guarantee that corresponds more or less closely to that moral principle). Among the issues at which the chapter glances are the scalar character of compliance by systems of governance with the principle of freedom of expression, the legal remedies that are apposite for giving effect to the moral obligations imposed by that principle, the location and stringency of the burden of proof in litigation where communicative liberties are at stake, and the location of the general legal powers to invalidate statutes and other laws. The chapter explains why these issues have been consigned to a fairly brief concluding portion of the book, instead of being treated in depth.

Abstract:
This book examines whether more international legal instruments and procedures would be helpful while probing the actions that states can take in tandem to the large and increasingly elaborate international human rights legal system. It combines research in anthropology, criminology, economics, history, law, political science, psychology, and sociology with practical insight from the people in the field who are engaged in human rights promotion. Its goal is to develop a strategy for stewardship that could help make human rights more of a reality. Part I of the book considers what is known about why people (notably leaders of governments and their envoys) commit human rights abuses. Part II deals with the international human rights legal system that has emerged over the last six decades. Part III explores what governments themselves are doing to advance human rights abroad.

So it is difficult to select a panel with a sensitivity distribution similar to that of the population. The preferred method in the United Kingdom for screening panelists uses the actual odor to be tested as a key component. In France selection is carried out on the basis of the threshold for five standard odor ants. In Germany a "normal11 sense of smell is requested of persons between the age of 18 and 50 years, in the Netherlands no exact specifi cations are given. Abstract:
Abstract Highly integrated microelectronic devices drive an ever increasing effort in engineering, manufacturing and failure analysis. Almost all established failure analysis techniques and conventional circuit edit procedures are facing the severe challenges and limits of aggressive downscaling. While device design and manufacturing cooperate closely, failure analysis often is considered as an add-on service upon request. If physical limitations are hard to overcome, extending the application of an established method to promote synergy with other aspects of IC making is one option for future progress. Traditionally circuit edit FIB is a post-fix procedure to allow for fast design changes in the wiring of a chip. Device performance remains unchanged. A different aspect is the deposition of FIB probe pads which permits electrical probing in locations difficult to reach. Probing results in critical regions of a circuit provide tremendous value for general debug or first silicon analysis. Device performance can be monitored. This paper adds a another dimension with new CE and functional chip analysis techniques where device performance can be directly monitored and altered; therefore connecting integrated circuit design, device development and failure analysis for shorter development cycles.

Abstract A sample preparation technique for flip chips (FC) deprocessing from the back side proposed. The technique uses HNA chemistry (consisting of a mixture of acids: hydrofluoric, nitric and acetic) to wet-etch the heavily-boron-doped Si bulk substrate selectively to the lightly-boron-doped Si epi. The procedure can be used as a FC device sample preparation technique for back-side optical probing and FIB editing.

Abstract A failure analysis process flow development for a board mount plastic BGA multichip module is described. Both front and backside approaches are investigated. Following the probing (at both front and backside), front side chemical de-cap procedure is also developed to expose the components without disturbance. The development of this failure analysis process flow has successfully isolated defective IC dice, identified a die attach interface corrosion mechanism, and assembly related die top mechanical defects. This process can be adopted to failure analysis for other plastic BGA modules.

Abstract:
Endodontic therapy, better known as root canal treatment, is a procedure performed to remove damaged and/or infected tissue from the inner canals of teeth and seal the canals to prevent the teeth from being a source of infection. Each year more than 24 million teeth receive endodontic treatment in the United States. A typical procedure includes access preparation (opening crown with drills), root canal shaping and cleaning, and then root canal filling. This treatment is expensive, time-consuming, and prone to human error. The outcome relies on the clinician’s skill, which is gained through years of training and practice. The success quotient of this treatment is 60–65% for general dentists and 90% for specialists (endodontists). There is a need for advanced endodontic technology innovation. This paper will describe the process of mechanical design of computer-controlled micro machine, which will perform the automatic probing, drilling, cleaning, and filling of the root canal. The paper will also discuss the innovations involved from the traditional way endodonticsts treat root canal to science and technology based automation.

Abstract:
In this paper, authors use the parallel calculation methods to solve the incompressible turbulent flow through a pump-turbine runner. The calculation aims at probing the road using parallel calculation methods to simulate complex flow field. The simulation is conducted based on the N-S equations, by using the k-ε model. SIMPLEC algorithm [1] is adopted in the numerical procedure with body-fitted coordination [2] and staggering grid system. The calculation is carried out on the THTF “Explore 108” Cluster Computer, where Solaris8.0 plays the roles of operating system and MPI1.2 as message-passing interface. The results of parallel simulation agree well with those of serial simulation, which shows that the parallel algorithms are feasible and useful to numerical simulation.

Abstract:
Abstract Ultraviolet (UV) lasers can be used as microsurgery tools to deprocess electronic packages to expose the device and internal package features. A UV laser milling tool was characterized for various applications on multiple die stacked packages to assist in fault isolation and failure analysis. Laser milling procedures evaluated were package delayering to expose traces, trace cutting so that fails can be isolated between the die and package, wire bond exposure and cutting, multiple stacked die exposure through mold compound decapsulation and device milling. Results show excellent selectivity of the laser in removing organic material without etching copper traces at multiple layers in the organic package. Mold compound removal above the die was limited to within ~15 microns of the die surface to prevent any die damage. Mold compound decapsulation outside the die area to expose multiple layers of wire bonds for probing and inspection was developed after overcoming issues related to wire damage. In conclusion, laser milling procedures developed and evaluated show that the technique has a unique advantage in performing local package microsurgery with minimal damage or change in the global stress state of the package.

Abstract:
Magnetic seizure therapy (MST) is currently on trial as an alternative to Electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) to treat patients suffering from treatment resistant depression (TRD). This paper is concerned with developing a deeper understanding of the mechanics behind MST by employing finite element analysis (FEA) of brain. To this end, a model that consists of concentric spherical layers that represent a realistic anatomical head model has been employed. Simulations performed via COMSOL Multi-physics helped identify the dimensions and coil types for the MST device as well as the angular probing orientations. Largest induced current due to the externally imposed magnetic field was found in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which act as a barrier to induce current in the gray matter. Different copper coil configurations were experimented with namely the cap coil, stacked coil and the multi-stacked coil. These studies are envisaged to provide a quantitative approach to virtually simulate the MST procedure and hence enhance the benefits clinical trials that are currently underway.

In XIth International Congress on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Schattauer GmbH, 1987. http://dx.doi.org/10.1055/s-0038-1644078.

Full text
Abstract:
5 previously described RFLPs within the factor IX gene have been used for family studies (carrier detection) in 10 haemophilia B kindred. In all DNA from 91 individuals, including 25 obligate or possible carriers, was analysed by digestion with TaqI and XmnI and probing with the intragenomic probe VIII (all probes were provided by Professor G. G. Brownlee, Oxford). When noninformative, additional RFLPs (DdeI;probe XIII and MspI;probe II) were used. Of 12 possible carriers, 11 were diagnosed (6 as carriers, 5 normal). Of the confirmed carriers (6 diagnosed, 13 obligate) 15 were informative (heterozygous and phase known), and the overall incidence of heterozygosity was 72%. The recently reported BamHI RFLP was not found to be useful ( <1.0% frequency).Further RFLPs in and flanking the factor IX gene were sought by two procedures. Firstly cosmid pCHIXα, containing a 40kb insert including the 3' end of the factor IX gene and stretching some 35kb 3' to the gene was used as a large probe, with repetitive sequences being blocked by preannealing the probe with an excess of sonicated, denatured human DNA (Litt and White, PNAS 82, 6206). Results with 25 restriction enzymes (covering an estimated 1038 nucleotides) and DNA from 7 unrelated females were obtained, but only one low frequency PvuII RFLP (frequency about 1%) was identified. Similar experiments with further cosmid probes 3' to the gene are underway. The second technique was developed to analyse small DNA fragments (<1.0kb) generated by frequently cutting restriction enzymes. These fragments were separated on 3.5% polyacrylamide/0.5% agarose composite gels and then electroblotted onto hybond-N. Fragments of 150bp were readily visualised by this procedure. 3 frequently cutting enzymes have been used (Hinfl, Rsal and Mbol), and the blots probed with a factor IX c-DNA probe, or a unique sequence subclone of cosmid pCHIXα. To date no RFLPs have been identified. This search for further useful RFLP has illustrated the paucity of detectable sequence variation within this region of the X-chromosome.
