Urgency of the research. In the process of fabricating fabrics, various types of aggregates are used in the textile industry, such as crocheting, crocheting and others. Their working part is the drums and rollers covered with card headset. The quality of the work surface of the card headset is subject to high requirements, since the occurrence of an error in the craft drum or roller of the textile unit causes the formation of an uneven gap between the working elements and, accordingly, the release of the poor-quality product. And not a satisfactory condition of the working surface of the needl

Sample surface examination in atomic force microscopy is carried out using cantilevers having the form of elastic consoles with sharp needle (tip) at the free end. Quality of images obtained from atomic force microscope (AFM) heavily depends on tip sharpness degree. Silicon cantilevers made based on wet anisotropic etching are widely used in atomic force microscopy. This paper studies the dependence of the shape and size of the resulting tip on the concentration of KOH in the solution, as well as the effect of pyrogenic oxidation and oxidation in a dry oxygen atmosphere on the sharpness of the

Focused ion-beam milling has been applied to prepare needle-shaped atom probe tomography specimens from mechanically alloyed powders without the use of embedding media. The lift-out technique known from transmission electron microscopy specimen preparation was modified to cut micron-sized square cross-sectional blanks out of single powder particles. A sequence of rectangular cuts and annular milling showed the highest efficiency for sharpening the blanks to tips. First atom probe results on a Fe95Cu5 powder mechanically alloyed in a high-energy planetary ball mill for 20 h have been obtained.

ABSTRACTSharper nanotips are required for application in nanoprobing systems due to a shrinking contact size with each new transistor technology node. We describe a two-step etching process to fabricate W nanotips with controllable tip dimensions. The first process is an optimized AC electrochemical etching in KOH to fabricate nanotips with a radius of curvature (ROC) down to 90 nm. This was followed by a secondary nanotip sharpening process by laser irradiation in KOH. High aspect ratio nanotips with ROC close to 20 nm were obtained. Finally we demonstrate the application of the fabricated na

AbstractReliable and consistent preparation of atom probe tomography (APT) specimens from aqueous and hydrated biological specimens remains a significant challenge. One particularly difficult process step is the use of a focused ion beam (FIB) instrument for preparing the required needle‐shaped specimen, typically involving a “lift‐out” procedure of a small sample of material. Here, two alternative substrate designs are introduced that enable using FIB only for sharpening, along with example APT datasets. The first design is a laser‐cut FIB‐style half‐grid close to those used for transmission‐

Abstract Background Exposome research looks into how combined exposures affect human health. The EU-funded Equal-Life project focuses on physical and social exposures in a child’s environment and its effects on children’s mental health and cognitive development in the life course. Perspectives and priorities on what to study in particular might differ between practitioners and researchers. Therefore, collaboration with external stakeholders from various fields is encouraged to integrate practical experience and link it to the researchers’ aims. Abstract The Introduction outlines the main themes and problems related to the study of medieval economic growth during the central Middle Ages. It then proceeds to provide an overview of the historiography on land management in medieval Tuscany; finally, it addresses the political history of Lucca and Florence by focusing on the development of the commune, the emergence of the Popolo, the surge in warfare, and the sharpening of increasingly complex fiscal systems. This is the background against which the analysis of land management and rural society needs to be set. The Introduction argues th

Abstract What is meant by the word “curriculum”? Conceptual problems abound where clarification is lacking and it is not surprising to see the curriculum field described as “moribund” and “fraudulent.” In addressing this question, rather than attempt an exhaustive survey of this terrain and drawing on representative literature along the way I sketch a conceptual map of ways of thinking about curriculum generically. My objective is to show that the concept of curriculum needs to be clarified, describe ways in which it can be envisaged, and suggest that such clarification can result in sharpenin

Products and manufacturing processes need to become more sustainable. Grinding tools and grinding processes are no exception. The wear of grinding tools is an important factor in their grinding performance and affects the grinding process outcome strongly. Different wear mechanisms on the grit and bond level lead to a change in tool profile and sharpness. This paper discusses and defines common terms used in the literature. Wheel wear occurs in three phases, initial wear, steady-state wear, and wheel collapse. In multi-layer tools, a steady self-sharpening state is preferable. This means that
