Eighteen human molars with enamel pearls ranging in diameter from 0.8 to 2.7 mm were sectioned, acid-etched, and processed for SEM observation. In addition to pearl enamel, the specimens contained crown enamel for comparison. All pearls were of the composite type. The enamel layer reached maximal thicknesses of between 0.3 and 0.7 mm opposite the tip of the dentinal cone. The enamel structure was normal, but more variable and irregular than crown enamel. This study examines frequency and phase relationship between Pc 1 EMIC wavepacket envelopes and simultaneously occurring Pc 5 ULF waves using magnetic data measured by the CRRES spacecraft. We derive a combinator library for non-deterministic parsers with a monadic interface, by means of successive refinements starting from a specification. The choice operator of the parser implements a breadth-first search rather than the more common depth-first search, and can be seen as a parallel composition between two parsing processes. The resulting library is simple and efficient for “almost deterministic” grammars, which are typical for programming languages and other computing science applications.

AbstractThe trend towards flexible, agile, and resource-efficient production systems requires a continuous development of processes as well as of tools in the area of forming technology. To create load-adjusted and weight-optimized tool structures, we present an overview of a new algorithm-driven design optimization workflow based on mixed-integer linear programming. Loads and boundary conditions for the mathematical optimization are taken from numerical simulations. They are transformed into time-independent point loads generating physical uncertainty in the parameters of the optimization model. CAD-based mathematical optimization is used for topology optimization and geometry generation of the truss-like structure. Finite element simulations are performed to validate the structural strength and to optimize the shape of lattice nodes to reduce mechanical stress peaks. Our algorithm-driven design optimization workflow takes full advantage of the geometrical freedom of additive manufacturing by considering geometry-based manufacturing constraints. Depending on the additive manufacturing process, we use lower and upper bounds on the diameter of the members of a truss and the associated yield strengths. An additively manufactured flexible blank holder demonstrates the algorithm-driven topology design optimization.

Cognitive biases are a mistake in reasoning, evaluating, remembering, or other cognitive processes. They are mental errors caused by our simplified information processing strategies, and can be cultural, emotional, or intellectual predispositions toward a certain judgment, organizational bias, and bias that results from one's self-interest. The chapter explores some case studies in the foreign policy decision-making, distinguished in groupthink and polythink types, such as Pearl Harbor, Cuba Missile Crisis, Iraq Invasion of 2003, and post-9/11 environment.

There are two points of view on the absolute chronology of the Early Bronze Age of the North Caucasus: this era occupies the entire of the fourth millennium and the beginning of the third millennium BC, or only the second half of the fourth millennium and the beginning of the third millennium BC. Collected 102 dates and statistically processed. We managed to identify two peaks (concentrations) of dates. In the future, these peaks will be subjected to their own archaeological analysis.

SolidWorks is used for the numerical analysis. The largest Lyapunov exponent was calculated for the mechanism and the non-periodic motion is analyzed for different clearances and angular speeds.
