The superfamily Alpheoidea comprises eight families: Alpheidae, Barbouriidae, Bythocarididae, Hippolytidae, Lysmatidae, Merguiidae, Ogyrididae and Thoridae. Alpheoids are characterized by possessing two pairs of chelate pereopods, a multiarticulate carpus on pereopod 2, and a narrow strip as the last article on maxilliped 2. However, during the inspection of the reproductive system (RS) of several alpheoids, we consistently observed the presence of ejaculatory bulbs (EBs) in vasa deferentia (VDs) of these shrimps. To investigate whether the presence of EBs in the RS is a conserved trait among

This checklist is the fifth and last compilation on the decapod crustaceans reported to São Paulo (Brazil) coastal area, resulting from long-term multidisciplinary projects, which combined morphological analyses and molecular techniques. The current research includes 75 decapod species, herein referred as shrimps/lobsters-like (shrimps, ghost-shrimps, lobsters, and related groups), reported to São Paulo coastal area. These species occur in marine, estuarine, and amphidromous habitats and are classified into 21 families as follow: Aristeidae (2 spp., 2 genera), Atyidae (4 spp., 2 genera), Axian

Abstract:
Two new species of the family Alpheidae: Alpheus margaritae sp. n. and Leptalpheus melendezensis sp. n. are described from Santa María-La Reforma, coastal lagoon, SE Gulf of California. Alpheus margaritae sp. n. is closely related to A. antepaenultimus and A. mazatlanicus from the Eastern Pacific and to A. chacei from the Western Atlantic, but can be differentiated from these by a combination of characters, especially the morphology of the scaphocerite and the first pereopods. Leptalpheus melendezensis sp. n. resembles L. mexicanus but can be easily differentiated because L. melendezensis sp.
